  • Not that many people are familiar with this song. Younger individuals are seldom inclined to experience the rare sentiment therein. Spread the word !

  • Reminds me of my childhood when my mother sang this, she had the sweetest voice and my father could hold a note or two as well. Jolson brought music to our home as he did to millions of others from Greenock to Wigan and beyond. I must have watched the Jolson story and Jolson sings again hundreds of times and it still makes me cry. Pity the real story was not so full of warmth and love.

  • Truly amazing singer. I love Al Jolson.

  • A great song written by James Thornton in 1898, he sold it for 15 dollars.

  • In the last decade of Jolie's life his voice matured into a rich deep baritone / bass that added great vibrancy to his songs. He remains perhaps the greatest entertainer in history. His moves, voice, and remarkable whistling captivated every audience to which he performed. Jolie is king.

  • standing on the shoulders of GIANTS

  • Al Jolson had a unique gift, and practiced his art in a time when you stood front and center and delivered to your audience without electronic assistance. Stand or fall. He also influenced many who would come after him, including the fabulous Judy Garland. Thanks for this montage.

  • To me, this is the most touching of all Jolson's songs. The richness of the voice together with the sweetness of his delivery of the lyrics just melts me.
