  • Is this the only appearance of Shady Pines on GG's?

  • I wish Bea Arthur at least stayed another season so we could have had a Season 8 of Golden Girls instead of the Golden Palace spinoff...

  • The problem with this series is you could only appreciate it if you watched the Golden Girls and saw how the characters developed from the Golden Girls. For instance, we as viewers finally get to see the much talked about Shady Pines, and finally see Rose stand up to Dorothy after getting hit with the newspaper for so long. It's like an epilogue to the Golden Girls, but none of the new storylines really stick.

  • I missed Bea on this series but I don't think it was fair of a lot of people who were fans of the Golden Girls to make her feel guilty for wanting to leave the series. Like many other actress before her and after her, she wanted to close a door on one project so she could open another one. It was nice of her to say yes to coming back as a guest on Golden Palace even though she wasn't contractually obligated to do so.

  • such crap

  • their Final Goodbye

  • That would have been cool if they had Lucas in the episode. The ending makes me tear up :'( I miss those girls so much! It's hard to believe that Betty is the only one alive :( RIP Estelle, Bea, & Rue <3

  • Wow Dorothy let her mama stay at that labor camp of a retirement home before they all moved in together? LOL

  • the show would of lasted if the whole cast was on board.

  • @jdotcastillo Yeah, i know what you mean. But they would have to throw Lucas in, too because with out him it wouldn't have been any different than Golden Girls.

  • ill be damned. I might like Golden Palace more than Golden Girls. It might be due to Bea being in the episode but I enjoy Cheech Marin and the other actors.

  • It is said watching the final scene since it the final time that Bea Arthur played Dorothy but I wish that she would have agreed to do guest apperances on the Golden Palace or the so called 8th year of the Golden Girls.

  • I wish that Dorothy would have returned for more guest apperances.

  • lol you should lead us now

  • WHEN DID YOU BECOME SO STRONG?!?!?!?!?!

  • I hate seeing the last scene.

  • They have a phone now?? LOL

  • The end was so sad. It really shows how nothing stays the same in life. Estelle said she enjoyed doing this better than the Golden Girls. Rest In Peace you beautiful ladies and we all love you Betty.

  • JACK BLACK with the Golden Girls! Whaaaaaa???

  • I loved it when Dorthy asked Rose "When did you become so strong?!" Love how they had the some of the same characteristics that they are known for but grew a bit as women. Love my Golden Girls!!!

  • Blance: It's Beautiful!

    Rose: It's Paradise!

    Dorothy: It's a fake!

  • I think the ending was sad but appropriate. It shows that people change and things don't ever stay the same. Dorothy got married and moved on with her life and I think her coming to visit the girls was her way to check & see if they're alright. At the end, she realizes that they have changed as well and she leaves relieved and a little sad knowing that they have all changed and moved on without her..

  • Dorothy had a point: why was a 85 year-old woman (Sophia) working her butt off in room service? That was way too much labor. In fact Blanche and Rose OWNED the hotel. They had no business doing grunt work desk assistants and lobby attendants are hired for. They should have had more employees.

  • i wish dorothy would've stayed maybe then the show would've lasted another good 7 years

  • I can't understand why Dorothy would keep her old last name (esp. since she was never fond of Stan during the Golden Girls). If I were her I would just have Hollingsworth

  • @ILoveTeaDogs .....Alot of women keep the name of their children's father so they share the same last name as their children (and grandchildren). Perhaps Dorothy would have wanted to continue sharing a last name with Michael and his child(ren).

  • @ILoveTeaDogs I don't think she kept it legally. I think they just had it that way on her gift since they knew her for years as Dorothy Zbornak, and it was a tribute to their old life together. Most likely her new name was Dorothy Hollingsworth (not Dorothy Zbornak Hollingsworth).

  • damn...shady pines..she got it bad

  • This 2-part episode was truly the last episode of Golden Girls, (sort of like an epilouge for the whole show). I wish it was released as a bonus feature on season 7.

  • the ending just breaks my heart

  • I love you Bea...and all of you girls...merry Christmas!!

  • Dorothy's exit is sad it makes me cry

  • wow..think id rather be at shady pines..

  • I like the Golden Palace- I have the DVD- but the reception is very bad.

  • I always felt that that last bit with Dorothy looking around was her realizing that they really didn't need her anymore.

  • Dorothy's exit is always so sad.

  • They need to remake golden girls. Use the sex and city women and Betty white

  • @neoursa Sex and the city is trash.

  • Aww. What a sweet and sad ending. I really hated to see Dorothy go again.

  • The ending breaks my heart a little. We love you, Bea!

  • the look on dorothys face at the end and walking out of the hotel kinda made me sad :(

  • @stephutech Especially since that would be the last time we'd get to see Bea as Dorothy.

  • this episode is so sad the look on Dorothy's face said it all. she knew it would be the last time all four of them would be together. golden girls was over and everyone moved on. so sad. i miss them

  • The way that this ended was awkward. I mean, i understand that they were busy, but the way that Bea left it was like she was a regular hotel guest, not Dorothy Zbornak. It was just awkward...

  • @bwayguy17 - I think the ending was meant to acknowledge that Rose, Blanche & Sophia had things they needed to do and that life for them goes on. Which is whilst Dorothy looked at the three closet women in her life as she left the hotel and knew that this was their life now and that she was going back to her's with Lucas.....

There is a moment that's captured in Dorothy face as she leaves - taking one last look and realizing that everything changes, and life keeps moving forward......

  • @woohooboy yeah, i guess so. it's still sad...

  • This is the first time Dorothy starts agreeing with Sophia. I gues she didn't want to admit. Everything about Shady Pines is true!!!

  • HAHA!

Dororthy: What have you done to my mother? YOU NAZI!

    LMAO!

Rose: All right you take your hands off of her she's my friend

Dorothy: WHEN DID YOU BECOME SO STRONG?!

    Rose: I DON'T KNOW!

  • Bea Auther should of came back for the ep were stan passed away she kina had too

  • @EmoDeathStar121 do u remember the name of that epi?

  • I think its so sad to see Dorothy leave again. And the way this episode ends... It looks like Dorothy feels useless in the golden palace

  • is it just me or is it great to finialy see the much talked about shady pines

  • So touching....crying crying!

  • i think dorothy should visit them atleast every other 2 months. after all, she is their best friend. i would die if i only got to see my best friend about 3-4 times a year.

  • ITS SO SAD to see DOROTHY LEAVING,,,

and would de the last time,,,, I think it would have been better if the show would have included

DOROTHY,,, its just not the same if one of them is not there,,,,,

I used to watch "THE GOLDEN GIRLS" when I was a little girl,,,,,,and still have good MEMORIES,,,

  • The only reason The Golden Girls ended when it did was because of Bea Arthur; she was ready to leave the show and move on. I guess the producers knew the show wouldn't survive without Dorothy so they ended it. Estelle, Rue, and Betty wanted to continue, so that's why they produced The Golden Palace spin-off. And of course, it only survived one season. Even though it was a different show it just wasn't the same without Dorothy.

  • So according to this Rose and Miles never married? Any answers out there? I wish they'd had Rose and Miles have a wedding at least.

  • @gotch09 They have an episode where Miles comes back and he marries a different lady named Fern. I dont know which episode it is but it's here and it's sad. There are two parts to it but not like a too be continued part two.

  • I'd give almost anything to be able to find that episode. It really bugged me that I never felt that the Miles and Rose situation was ever resolved.

  • Damn... this ending is really sad :( If a close friend of mine was leaving after a short visit, I'd at least take him/her to the airport... work can wait.

  • And that was the last time we ever saw Dorothy - how sad.

But in a way, I think they should have just left it alone at the end of the Golden Girls.

They simply couldn't top it - not ever.

  • What happens to the car Chuy bought for Beverley ?! lol Lucky girl.

  • no hugs goodbye

  • chewy: so,uh, how's everything?

beverley: actually the meatloaf is a little dry.

chewy: beverley, i want a divorce.

beverely: boy, you can't take criticism can you?

    HAHAHAHA!

  • i think if i had to work in a hotel like that, i'd want sophia's job. I'd be fun just to cook all day and stuff. besides i LOVE sophia!! she's my fav golden girl!!!

  • I also love how Dorothy finally admits that Shady Pines was a complete hellhole before it burned down. She had always denied it on The Golden Girls, LOL.

  • It's sorta sad, but not terribly so. No, the girls don't need her anymore, but we know they'll always love her anyway. Besides, she has a happy life with Lucas to look forward to.

  • Dag! Another good part was cut. After Dorothy says that she will pay the bill, Sohpia asks Rose to stand up to Dorothy again. Rose says yes and then Dorothy yells "$1,200?? I think Rose then says "you're on your own" to Sopha. LOL.

  • They also chop out Sophia telling a knock knock joke to Dorothy: "Ima."

    Dorothy says "Ima who?"

Sophia says "Ima not going home with you." Dorothy then says she wants to be with her mother and Sophia says she's needed at the hotel and likes to stay busy, but when she starts to slow down she'll be there with Dorothy again." Sweet.

  • @JhomasE I have noticed that lifetime is good at that. It bugs me but they do.

  • Made me really sad at the end....='(

  • WHEN DID YOU BECOME SO STRONG!?

    LMAO =D

  • @jurn77 I DON'T KNOW!!! LOL.

  • Haha =D @Jthomase

  • LOLOL. @ jurn77

  • i thought golden palace was pretty good, but like every1 said dorothy was the backbone of golden girls and without her i dont think there would be a show that would have lasted with wih just rose, blanch, and sofia

  • No matter what they did it still isn't the same as the original. Somehow in the last year I've become addicted to the Golden Girls. Don't ask why,l don't understand it myself.

  • Me too! LMAO!

  • jack black yay

  • This episode shows that Golden Palace with just Blanche,Rose & Sophia is like a table with only 3 legs.. you need the 4th one to hold it together!! They needed Dorothy to make this show complete and that's why Golden Palace failed.

  • I agree.

  • @ATLien333 actually, it was supposed to be picked up for a second season because it had high ratings but a few days before the new lineup was announced, NBC decided to pull the show from their schedule. But I do agree Dorothy's presence made this episode the best of the series.

  • @dsc385 You're half right. "The Golden Palace" actually aired on CBS, not NBC, and the show did not have the high ratings that "The Golden Girls" enjoyed, but they were good enough to secure a second season, however the day before the network upfronts, CBS decided to cancel it to make way for new shows that fall.

  • @ATLien333 Yeah if bea arthur stayed on maybe this show wouldn't have failed.

  • @ATLien333 Yeah, you're probably right, but the Golden Girls only had 7 seasons because Bea Arthur decided to stop and do something else after 1992. She wanted to move on, otherwise, the Golden Girls would have probably had more seasons.

It's a surprise she came back for these two episodes to begin with.

  • The ending is very sad especially the way that Dorothy walks out of the Golden Palace. It was interesting that even thought Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose will always be friends, it proves that they can survive with their friend constantly at their side.

  • rofl lol lol code for picking up liter on the interstate rofl lol lol

  • Rose: I hit Dorathy

    Sophia: No you didn't

    Blanch:Yes she did

Sophia: you will lead us now."

    ROFL! AWSOME

  • Always good to see Dorothy one more time. The premise was a little bittersweet, having her as the bad guy, and unfortunately the acting was a little over the top, but that same chemistry was still there. The ending was a good one - not all happy, but it's appropriate - life goes on, and even though they will always be best friends, life has moved on to the next phase. Wish they'd put this on DVD, don't they know we'd buy it no matter what?

  • Beverly is a bitch. I hate bitches like this. Using poor Chuy to make that fool jealous. They deserve each other.

  • Am i the only one that feels bad while watching the ending of this episode? :(

I miss Bea, she was the life of the GG.

  • i think the ending is so sad. Dorothy doesn't even smile, so looks sad and others don't need her : (

  • i really miss Bea too. She was a very special lady. I can't believe she's gone...

  • You are not alone.

  • i cried at the end now i have 2 watch the golden girls

  • Sophia is in the middle of her excerise period....

Dorothy: OMG that's code for picking up litter on the interstate!

  • It was so sad to see Dorothy at the end. Bea, you were an amazing actress. By far, my most favorite Golden Girl.

Funny I've been watching GG's since I was a little girl and will mostly like watch it until I myself become golden too. Thanks for posting!

  • we finally get to see Shady Pines. This was actually a great episode.

  • Dorothy: "What have you done to my mother, you--you nazi?!"

Meredith(Woman at front desk at Shady Pines): "Security!"

    Funny!

  • @vzeu019j Yes. I loved that dialogue between Merideth and Dorothy.

    Meridith: Se-cu-ri-ty!

  • watching this episode takes me back to thier finale..*argggh* the sadness..the tears!! this is torture :0(

  • Why is Dorothy still Zbornak she divorced Stan she became a Hollingsworth

  • She kept the name after the divorce. Her full name is Dorothy Petrillo Zbornak Hollingsworth

  • good point!!!

  • Yeah, back then it wasn't as common for divorced women to take back their names, plus she probably figured there was no point in taking it back after having a different name for 38 years.

  • Dorothy: When did you become the strong one?

    Rose: I don't know!

    Rose: I hit Dorothy.

    Sophia: Don't lie.

    Rose: I'm not lying.

Sophia: You will lead us now.

lmfao! I love it! And Sophia hitting on the guy? Nice! I love this episode!

  • @easilyamused1000 i know rite but i gota admit sophia's right rose is the closest to dorothy now

  • @easilyamused1000 Between Rose saying, "I'm not lying." and Sophia's "you will lead us now" Blanche said: "She did"

  • @easilyamused1000 I like this episode also

  • They didn't hug at the end! It felt like they just ditched Dorothy there. They should have done another group hug.

  • We need Bea and Estelle now then ever

  • wow thats the actress from the movie Nothing But Trouble. Bertila Damas, who plays Renalda Squiriniszu in that movie, is a popular Spanish-language singer. She sang "La Chanka".

  • my names meredith!!! IM SO GLAD DORTHY CAME BACK IN THIS EP!!!!!

  • I thought this was a very sad episode =[ ..But happy <3

  • DOROTHY COME BAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!

  • They should have locked the doors to prevent Dorothy from leaving!

  • This show could have lasted longer than one season if Bea Arthur had stayed on... Don Cheadle and Cheech Maron are hilarious also...

  • which show was 1st golden girls or golden palce? i don't know which one was 1st

  • Golden Girls, of course.

Golden Palace can´t reach the water to GG in 10 BZILLION years!

You will ADORE the Golden Girls. I certainly did..........I love you all my Golden Gals :)

  • @latoyaeyes, the Golden Girls was first.

  • what happend to oliver??

  • Oliver went back with his mother after she got her life straightened out. I think she had been in rehab.

  • Blanche acts surprised that Shady Pines had been rebuilt, yet on "The Golden Girls," they always talked as though Shady Pines was still in existence, although they never came right out and said it had been rebuilt. I always figured it had been rebuilt, and that Dorothy decided that Sophia no longer needed nursing home care.

  • In the pilot of GG, when Sophia comes to the house, she says "The home burnt down." I think all the "Shady Pines Ma" threats were just

  • "You shall lead us now."

    LMAO!

  • You shall lead us now. hahahahaha.

  • Is that the same receptionist as the one in the physical therapist's office in the Seinfeld episode "The Kiss Hello?"

  • Yes that is Carol Leifer. She was a writer on Seinfeld and one time girlfriend of Jerry Seinfeld. The character of Elaine was based on her in part.

  • the ending is so sad!

  • Yes, what a sad ending....AGAIN! Twice we have to watch Dorothy leave the other girls. :-( Wish Bea would have stayed on this show. Never watched much of this show when it debuted, and didn't see this 2 parter with Dorothy. It was just like the old times on Golden Girls with all 4 ladies.

Miss you Bea, miss the magic these 4 ladies created together as these characters. :-(

  • I love the way Sophia was always putting down shady pines and complaining about it and everytime you see the place it's beautiful lol...

  • And the ending was so touching...

  • Rose, Blanche, and Sophia may no longer need Dorothy, but this doesn't mean that they no longer love her.

  • Did you know that Shady Pines has the same set as the hotels in the Golden Girls episodes "Grab that Dough" and "Valentines Day"?

These are the best 2-part episodes of all of Golden Palace.

Rest in peace Bea and Estelle.

  • we finally get to see what shady pines looks like lol

  • shady pines was also in an episode of the golden girls, when sophia breaks one of her friends out.

  • u r not up on your golden girls trivia.......that retirement home was called "sunny pastures" re-watch the episode and see for yourself.

  • After I wrote that I thought long and hard, and it was a different home.. sunny pastures is right

  • yeah get it together lol......i love this episode of gp....i havent seen it since it first aired

  • Actually, that wasn't Shady Pines, it was Sunny Pastures, a completely separate retirement home, that is considered worse than Shady Pines.

  • I thought Sunny Pastures was "the bottom of the barrel" as Sophia put it on TGG?

  • hahahahahahahaha

    this is great XD

  • They shouldve made more episodes with Dorothy :( Then it probably wouldn't have been so bad. I didnt think this show was that good when it aired on Lifetime but I never saw this episode and it wasnt so bad. Just sad

  • I will mis Bea.... tremedously. =]

  • rip bea and estelle...

  • Comment removed

  • Bea keep the wit up and dont spat with Sophia up there - well not too much

  • I miss Bea and Estelle :(

R.I.P Estelle getty & Bea Arthur

  • RIP Bea Arthur.

  • RIP Estelle Getty

    RIP Herb Edelman

  • RIP Bea Arthur

  • this was a reply to an earlier comment that only said "RIP Bea Arthur"

  • we all miss you Bea

  • I miss you too, Bea!

  • thanks for the memories Bea, you will be missed by millions

  • God how depressing! I understand they wanted to make the point that Dorothy isn't on the show, but WOW! That was so sad knowing that the last, the very LAST time we would ever see the character of Dorothy was knowing that she felt like she wasn't needed. Why couldn't they end it with something like them all sitting around the table, and rose tells a story, dorothy hits her, they all laugh and we get to hear the instrumental of "thank you for being a friend" one last time...

  • Does anybody miss stan.

  • Herb Edelman was awesome!!! He's missed as well!

  • lmao "WHEN DID YOU BECOME SO STRONG???"

  • kirrithle do u mean episode 24 is the last episode. i didn't know that and i have been begging the uploader to upload some more . i really wish they had a second season too

  • They could have least hugged eachother bye and saw her out the door, Hell work can wait a few minutes.

  • They wanted people to let Dorothy go.

  • Damn this sad ending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :(

  • LMFAO 3:32 that is just perfect!!!

  • that ending is soooo sad i mean u kno dororthy is thinking they dont need her anymore and they hav grown apart....makes a tear come to my eye.

  • nobody rate its at 69!
