"Divided fairly?" How is it fair that the people who've worked hard to grow their own food and raise their own animals are forced to bring a percentage of that in so that it can be given to others who haven't worked for it?
@MelodiousMusician How is it fair that people who have no farm or people who have gotten robbed, or had a bad harvest etc should slowly die of starvation?
@challeBengtsson Those kinds of things are very unfortunate, but that's what communities and churches are for. People are supposed to help their neighbors in their time of need, and those who attend churches often find help there. It shouldn't be forced upon others to pay for another's misfortune--that should be a choice. It's all about free will. Is it fair to take hard earned money from a struggling family to care for another struggling family? That's the 'If I go down, you do, too,' idea
The point is that it is virtuous to share, in fact, to share the product of your labors equitably so that the needs of as many people as possible are met, before concerning yourself with luxuries. The system that you use to achieve this is irrelevant, capitalism, socialism, whatever, the point is to be virtuous.
Swift was showing the line: either be virtuous or don't, but don't pretend to be virtuous when you aren't, don't delude yourself into believing you ain't a yahoo cuz you is.
@trustno1 and that's why it will never work, NO ONE (cough obama) can get it to work rightly, good idea, it just can't ever be put into practice without flaws.
It's not that they've failed, it's that they have never existed, and are unlikely to come in to existence. The course of events always manages to defy our expectations.
I think that capitalists are okay, as long as they check themselves. As soon as you find yourself exploiting your employees labor, you probably want to evaluate your morals. And if you find yourself an employee subject to a boss, you probably want to find a more preferable arrangement. We need, variety, options.
@TheFriedLiverAttack ...to be charitable by taking it out of my paycheck. If I give to someone, I want it to be because I wanted to give to them, not because someone forced me to. That isn't kindness; it's stealing.
The problem with socialism is that it tells those who have that they're obligated to give to those who don't--as I said, it should be a personal choice.
So, you're telling me I'm greedy because I earned my pay? Slavery is forcing the few to work for the benefit of the many.
@TheFriedLiverAttack "Capitalist biased?" Well, I do believe in a free market, if that's what you mean. Greed has nothing to do with it. Sure, there are bad people out there who gain wealth through evil means; but, in the socialistic society, there are people who gain wealth through evil means as well--mainly sucking off of those who work.
I'm not talking about the high-end capitalists, I'm talking about small people like me who need to earn a living--and don't need the government forcing me
As children, watching this, we never realized that this was referring to socialism--and, of course, they put the capitalist, Gulliver, in as bad a light as possible; making it so that he only wants what's good for the higher classes, etc.
The problem with this Utopian philosophy is that some will realize that they no longer need to work, and can mooch off of the hard workers; and eventually, the hard workers will be fed up and will stop working--there will more parasites than there are workers.
Before British slavers traveled to Africas western coast to buy Black slaves from African chieftains, they sold their own White working class kindred (the surplus poor as they were known) from the streets and towns of England, into slavery. Tens of thousands of these White slaves were kidnapped children. In fact the very origin of the word kidnapped is kid-nabbed, the stealing of White children for enslavement.
even though communism may not have been written about by Karl Marx, ideas of equality still existed. This is probably similar to the communist utopia Marx envisioned.
The movie is different than the book, so communism not existing during the time the book was written in irrelvent to the what the social structure in the movie is
yes it matters because you people dont believe we blacks were once kings and queens, did u know whites were slaves in america before blacks? and that blacks own white slaves
again, does it matter?!? why do y'all have to judge by color and not by person?!? and yes I did know those facts... and whats with "you people" and "we blacks" statement, that there is singling yourself apart from the rest of the world, so not cool man, so not cool
no one is judging by color, this film is for historicl purposes, all our lives blacks were taught that we had not contributewd to world civilization and hisory; that we were nothing more than slaves or animales. when in fact we were looked upon as gods and we created the great civilaizations and are the directors on the stage of history. wemare not being sepratist we are only exposing the lies and revealing the truth
OK, whatever, I'm Irish and my ancestors were slaves, and by the by it was the ancestors of the Blacks that were treated cruel like, and it was wrong, but they aren't anymore nor are the Irish so I'm not making a bog deal about this anymore
some1 gave u a tick down for this, i am not black but if you look at north africa and the middle east, they were the greats while these lot were still cavemen hitting two stones together!
Ok. does it really matter? Everyone makes a big deal over racism and stuff. Truth is, there is only one race. Human. So don't be stupid and just accept black people. and black people, you don't be stupid and just accept the fact that these days you are generally treated better than you treat white people
