anthony is such a great actor. he always seems very humble. he had a great career and i wish he had lived longer so we would have even more great movies to watch.
at this point i guess nobody got no clue perkins was a closeted who not too long ago reportedly lost his virginity only at age 39 to some unidentified lady.
It's so interesting how times change. I wonder if Arlene Francis ever commented to go from 1951 to 1975. Remember in the 50's the name plates said Mr. and Mrs. and now it's just the first name. From the formal 50's to the groovy 70's.

If I was up there and had to guess who the celebrity was with that voice I'd ask " Do you have laryngitis ? " LMAOOO ! JK I LOOOOVE ANTHONY PERKINS ! SO SEXY ♥
Unexpectedly met him twice...at Universal Studios...on the tram ride in front of the Bates hotel...each time he was filming a Psycho sequel (2 and 3). During his breaks he would come down to the road where the tram was passing and shake people's hands. The first time the tram operator didn't believe the riders and had to stop the driver and turn around. Sure beat the heck out of audio-animatronics.
You're right, it's not a word. Doesn't the Disney character Goofy use that sound to say yes? Did you notice that young Anthony Perkins looks a little like Ryan Renolds?
I'm sure it was a fun daytime show - it's just that it was so glitzy when it was on at night that it made me want to live in New York in 1955 (and I prefer it that way!).
As a point of information, this episode of the syndicated "What's My Line?" was recorded June 27, 1974 in Studio 8-H at NBC ("30 Rock") in New York, broadcast months up to a year later, depending upon the affiliate carrying the program.
I read, even after cancellation of the syndicated "WML?," enough episodes of the program were recorded by late 1974 to complete the TV season, through about mid-way through 1975.
Some broadcast affiliates, reportedly, aired episodes even years later.
In that film, Perkins played Boston Red Sox player Jimmy Piersall, who battled mental illness in his early major league years.
It is my contention Perkins was cast as "Norman Bates" based on his performance in that film, which may have served as a kind of audition, if you will, for Alfred Hitchcock.
The commonality of each of these roles is that they were persons who were mentally ill.
Thanx for posting. Even in its final season, WML could be blindingly all star -- Broadway figures Arlene Francis, Larry Blyden, and Tony Perkins (still pretty), Soupy Sales, Allen Ludden, Anita Gillette. In the last season, they went back to mystery guest name plates for some reason. Blyden does great interviews, very interesting spot.
Ayup....Haha. What an adorable, immensely talented, humble, funny, charming man. I miss you, Tony.

@LoveToSpootch His name IS Anthony, but sometimes it was simply shortened to "Tony." I'm not sure why, but I've seen his name both ways.

A) Over six feet tall.
B) Less than 200 pounds.
And Soupy asks if he is a football player. :)

So as not to give his identity away.

The panel is third rate and the set is dime cheap but its the host that really sinks this reincarnation of what's my line.
It can't compare to the original.
Painful to watch.

how many WML's did Norman Bates do?
HowardOfOz 3 years ago
Well, here is (1) this one in color.
On the Sunday WML, I know of two appearances as a guest panelist. There might be more.
He appeared as a mystery guest 3 definitely maybe 4 times.
6 total??
He sat on the panel that memorable night in February 1961 when recovering Dorothy Kilgallen came as a mystery guest.

Look up on YouTube What's my line Jane Wyman and you will find a 1960 episode with Tony Perkins on the panel.
