  • Ayup....Haha. What an adorable, immensely talented, humble, funny, charming man. I miss you, Tony.

  • He was a handsome bastard. Not tough or macho but there you have it.

  • Even in his 40's he's still got that beautiful smile and apple cheeks.

  • Not only beautiful but also immensely charming and talented! Tony, you were wonderful! ♥ :)

  • is he musical!! gah i DIED at that.

  • See a relexed Tony in : watch?v=NJzsryffz5s&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL92942DA2FBA12BA9He gives a grea F* you to the cam!

  • Wow, What's My Line really went downhill by the 70's. "That's all the time we have"? What? Lame.

  • tony's was hot! hot! hot! he tried men but ultimately married and had 2 sons with his wife.

  • he is so charming oh my god. one of my fave WML guests of all time <3

  • What was he, like 43/44 here? And he still looks the same as he did 15 years prior in Psycho. Flawless man.

  • @cheesecake134 born in '32, so he was either 42 or 43 here.

  • Perkins Norman Bates Forever!

  • anthony is such a great actor. he always seems very humble. he had a great career and i wish he had lived longer so we would have even more great movies to watch.

  • and gay characteristics of course as francis describes him

  • boy does he got a gay accent

  • "Ayup!" :D

  • at this point i guess nobody got no clue perkins was a closeted who not too long ago reportedly lost his virginity only at age 39 to some unidentified lady.

  • @AdvantageYT Its been reported that the lady he lost his virginity to was Victoria Principal.

  • tony? i thought his name was Anthony? :S can someone please explain that to me? :)

  • @LoveToSpootch His name IS Anthony, but sometimes it was simply shortened to "Tony." I'm not sure why, but I've seen his name both ways.

  • @LoveToSpootch Also , Tony is the shortened name for Anthony

  • what a smile!

  • It's so interesting how times change. I wonder if Arlene Francis ever commented to go from 1951 to 1975. Remember in the 50's the name plates said Mr. and Mrs. and now it's just the first name. From the formal 50's to the groovy 70's.

  • If I was up there and had to guess who the celebrity was with that voice I'd ask " Do you have laryngitis ? " LMAOOO ! JK I LOOOOVE ANTHONY PERKINS ! SO SEXY ♥

  • His voice is so smooth after 3:10

  • What a cool, charming guy!

  • Soupy sales wasn't paying attention. They've established that Tony was:

    A) Over six feet tall.

    B) Less than 200 pounds.

And Soupy asks if he is a football player. :)

  • llovely guy and talented and his son is handsome too

  • Unexpectedly met him twice...at Universal Studios...on the tram ride in front of the Bates hotel...each time he was filming a Psycho sequel (2 and 3). During his breaks he would come down to the road where the tram was passing and shake people's hands. The first time the tram operator didn't believe the riders and had to stop the driver and turn around. Sure beat the heck out of audio-animatronics.

  • whats wrong with his voice?

  • @cHoKoLatPYE hes faking it so they wont guess who he is:)

  • @keithmoonfan16 i thought he chain smoked a whole pack of cigarettes or something.

  • lol he's good made them think for so long

  • Why doesn't he say "yes" instead of that unintelligebile utterance he makes?

  • So as not to give his identity away.

  • I UNDERSTAND THAT! But why did he disguise the word "yes" instead of saying "Aaayuhhh" or whatever he said. That's not even a word.

  • You're right, it's not a word. Doesn't the Disney character Goofy use that sound to say yes? Did you notice that young Anthony Perkins looks a little like Ryan Renolds?

  • b/c someppl where there for the times he was there b4 like arlene and if he said yes they might reconize the yes and know its anthony perkins.

  • Perkins apparently originated the Clooney haircut.

  • yeah his hair is not a trendy at those time,he's haircut is original

  • The panel is third rate and the set is dime cheap but its the host that really sinks this reincarnation of what's my line.

It can't compare to the original.

    Painful to watch.

  • Amen. The blue background is nice enough but the rest of the set is . . . Ghastly

  • Tony died too soon.

  • yes i miss him

  • It's horrible seeing WML looking so cheap and casual.

  • It was classier back in the day

  • why are people giving your comments thumb down?? this is pretty sloppy compared to its earlier iterations

  • I'm sure it was a fun daytime show - it's just that it was so glitzy when it was on at night that it made me want to live in New York in 1955 (and I prefer it that way!).

  • "Fear Strikes Out" with Anthony Perkins is one of my all time favorite films

  • As a point of information, this episode of the syndicated "What's My Line?" was recorded June 27, 1974 in Studio 8-H at NBC ("30 Rock") in New York, broadcast months up to a year later, depending upon the affiliate carrying the program.

I read, even after cancellation of the syndicated "WML?," enough episodes of the program were recorded by late 1974 to complete the TV season, through about mid-way through 1975.

Some broadcast affiliates, reportedly, aired episodes even years later.

  • Saw him on Broadway opposite Mia Farrow in "Romantic Comedy". Play was passible, but both leads made it more than worthwhile.

  • I just watched psycho 2. brilliant film

  • love anthony perkins, such an incredibly talented actor, one of the best of any generation.

    x

  • This guy is always Norman Bates too me.

  • Buy or rent the film "Fear Strikes Out."

In that film, Perkins played Boston Red Sox player Jimmy Piersall, who battled mental illness in his early major league years.

It is my contention Perkins was cast as "Norman Bates" based on his performance in that film, which may have served as a kind of audition, if you will, for Alfred Hitchcock.

The commonality of each of these roles is that they were persons who were mentally ill.

  • @cheyenne86 I agree. I like Vince Vaghn as an actor but I hated it when he was Norman Bates.

  • Great sex appeal this man had.

  • There's something about Tony Perkins that was so likable.

  • God Bless Anthony Perkins...

  • @09DarkFox09 ahh but did He bless him??

  • great, this is like "was bin ich"! thanks for posting!

  • Ja, "Was bin ich" !!! Klasse!!!

    Thank you for uploading!!

  • The Roman numerals in the credits say this show was from 1974.

  • how many WML's did Norman Bates do?

  • Well, here is (1) this one in color.

On the Sunday WML, I know of two appearances as a guest panelist. There might be more.

He appeared as a mystery guest 3 definitely maybe 4 times.

    6 total??

He sat on the panel that memorable night in February 1961 when recovering Dorothy Kilgallen came as a mystery guest.

  • Look up on YouTube What's my line Jane Wyman and you will find a 1960 episode with Tony Perkins on the panel.

  • What do you mean? Jane Wyman ( Falcon Crest ) and Anthony Perkins??? I´m from Germany, I didn´t know this!!

  • lol, cute kinda fellow

  • I just wana give tony a big hug..he was such a sweety

  • Poor host Larry Blyden. He was killed the same year this show aired (1975) in a car crash in Morocc.

  • I think it was actually in Monte Carlo, in Monaco.

  • According to IMDb, it was Agadir, Morocco. Whatever part of the world is was, it was a terrible tragedy.

  • How sad, I always enjoyed him when I watched these as a kid....I had never heard that thanks for the info!

  • It is interesting to see credits uncrunched and running at a speed that makes them actually readable.

  • Thanx for posting. Even in its final season, WML could be blindingly all star -- Broadway figures Arlene Francis, Larry Blyden, and Tony Perkins (still pretty), Soupy Sales, Allen Ludden, Anita Gillette. In the last season, they went back to mystery guest name plates for some reason. Blyden does great interviews, very interesting spot.
