if someone could help me out here, I just installed 4 more gigs and i had 2 gigs previous so 6 gigs total. now I have a 32 bit os if I get a 64 bit windows 7 will all 6 gigs of RAM be available? i just wanna clarify
I installed 2 x 512mb Pc133 (cruical) cards to a Dell Gx240...but got a 3-4-1 beep error 'screen initialisation failure' any ideas? I had to reinstall my 2 x 256mb
@BoeingFreak12345 but the thing is they arent yet my stupid manual says remove the PCI card first. do u recommend that i just put in my memory modules and leave my PCI card alone?
@limewireomochao I think I would take your PCI card out like your manual says, I'm sure the manufacturer has good reason for you to do that. Plus, PCI cards are easy to take out and replace.
@soris77 Just go to google and type the model of your PC, Go to some page where it shows information about your computer. Usually there is the memory of computer and how much memory it can support.
this is great, i found it last night and did it, and it quickly scans your computer and tells you what ram is in your PC and what slots are occupied. My computer is from 2002 and it scanned and told me the model of my computer and what RAM i could use to upgrade it. Crucial(dot)com sells ram and once it scans your computer, itll show you the ram to buy from the website. :) it's awesome.
does a computer already come with ram on the slots or are they empty so you can put extra ram besides the one it already has? oh and does ddr2 have 2 sides or only one? and does ddr have to sides or one?
they foregot about alot of things, but mostly what i see what happens in my computer store, when someone adds ram, they burn out the motherboard, because you have to ground yourself before putting in the ram sticks,if you have had the computer on within 10minutes of opening the computer, the motherboard still has power in it,and if you dont ground yourself then you are going to blow the mother board up with the static eletricity in your body, keep 1 hand on the case at all times wile installing
What happened to the Earth Strap? Wh did he not say to make suer you are fitting the memory the right way round, match the new memory with the old memory. What a useless video from a usullay good company!
If the pre-existing ram is any size lower than the maximum permitted for that particular system's particular memory slot, discard it , and max out the system with new rams.
No telling if, for instance, mixing PC-2100 and PC-3200 would cause compatibility issues or make the PC treat the faster ram as slower ram.
Supposedly, adding ram is the most cost-effective improvement you can make to your PC.
The video should have shown BOTH slots being filled.
lol! That is the same computer I got! wow, and i bought memory from crucial. Its a wonderful website with state of the art technologies to really help identify your memory needs! woo hoo, I look forward to purchasing more memory for my other modules. :]
which one to use for that very computer I need to buy one and mines has no info on it..

crucial website says that i can have 2gb ram max in each of my 2 slots :S does that mean i can't increase this at all?
Djdeathly 2 months ago
@Djdeathly This depends on how many bit your system is. on 32 bit systems the max amount of ram is 4 GB and on 64 bit it's unlimited

my instruction manual said that when im installing ram that i need to remove my PCI express x16 card first. whats the purpose of that?
limewireomochao 9 months ago
@limewireomochao The RAM slots may be underneath the PCI slot, so you would need to remove it before you can get to the RAM slots.
