@borderraven The reason that most people in CA OC is because its near impossible for the average citizen to get granted a CCW permit in this state. It is generally reserved for friends of the head of the sheriff's department, celebrities, and politicians.The only reason that people freak out in CA when they see a gun is because they uneducated-ly associate a gun with criminals. @Cookies205, I'm a CA native/resident and 2A advocate. Moonbeam signed the bill making it "illegal to open carry unloaded". But, changing CCW registration laws. I feel we need to use the laws to our favor. Try this, in January, apply for CCW. Keep a file on it. If we get a class of legal gun owners denied CCW, then we sue the Sheriffs, Counties, and State.

Tough cookie to all my pro open carry people out there. I am a gun owner and a Californian. However,I feel the main excuse made by the protesters (crime deterrence) is unsafe. Most of these open carry people are not adequately trained in the use lethal force, and most of them are not trained observers so the danger is high to the public if one of these individuals attempted to stop criminal activity when using their firearm. Leave the crime deterring to the professionals.

If I had to live there again, I would go through all the channels to get one, but it would be extremely difficult. Missouri passed concealed carry, has open carry and the castle doctrine, which extends to your car, so carrying a concealed loaded gun in your car is legal, provided your not a felon. It is generally reserved for friends of the head of the sheriff's department, celebrities, and politicians.The only reason that people freak out in CA when they see a gun is because they uneducated-ly associate a gun with criminals. @Cookies205, I'm a CA native/resident and 2A advocate. Moonbeam signed the bill making it "illegal to open carry unloaded". But, changing CCW registration laws. I feel we need to use the laws to our favor. Try this, in January, apply for CCW. Keep a file on it. If we get a class of legal gun owners denied CCW, then we sue the Sheriffs, Counties, and State.
OC has always been a result of inadequate public education on the part of the cops, who should educate callers.

Most of these open carry people are not adequately trained in the use lethal force, and most of them are not trained observers so the danger is high to the public if one of these individuals attempted to stop criminal activity when using their firearm. Concealed carry is the answer. Then all the hand wringing will stop. You can't hope for people to get any smarter, as the dumbing down process has been going on for far too long. Critical thinking is a dying skill, being replaced by fear and a desire for life to be handed to you. I conceal carry everywhere, and no one is the wiser.

@GTVAlfaMan I grew up there, but live in the wonderful state of TN now. I will never live in CA again until it is not impossible for an average citizen to obtain a CC permit. If I visit there I may do it anyway, no one ever knows that I'm armed here anyway.

@GTVAlfaMan Sorry I missed this question, Alfa. I live in TN, where we are allowed to conceal with a permit. I grew up in California, and would never live there again unless they change the laws. If I had to live there again, I would go through all the channels to get one, but it would be extremely difficult. It wouldn't be hard to prove that my training is more extensive than most of the cops there.

If you want to help STOP this bill from even passing contact the Public Safety Committee. Contact all members and tell them, "As soon as the Police & the Stated of California is legally responsible for the public safety, is the day I will go along with a ban on Open Carry." CA is broke and Portantino is writing these type of bills. Why not make a bill that create more jobs and less taxes. Isn't that what the public needs most of all.

Missouri passed concealed carry, has open carry and the castle doctrine, which extends to your car, so carrying a concealed loaded gun in your car is legal, provided your not a felon. And guess what, the crime rate has gone down dramatically since. Seems criminals don't like robbing folks who might shot them. Go figure.

You are more likely to use a weapon with poor judgment and for a bad reason. The cops should not have to deal with you, someone who has been arrested, being legally justified carrying a firearm.

The best people to decide punishment and guilt are those that see it first hand - cops. Require police to become doctors of law and call them Judges.
