This thing would be awesome with a DSG gearbox (or even a CVT). Right now they're the only two kinds of gearbox in production on other cars, that can beat a manual in acceleration (by 0.1-0.2 seconds).
Don't get me wrong, I love this car but the only reason it's so quick is because it's got super short gearing for its power and it hardly weighs anything at all. And to the description where it says it's faster than his busa, no offence but that's because you can't ride your machine to it's capability like you can the car. A very pro rider would have you on a busa off the line without a doubt. That being said, the Ariel Atom is an amazing machine.
@2jzgtejza80 last time I checked in Germany it was around 40.000 - 50.000 EUR. A lot of money, sure. But not when you compare it with other sport cars of equal performance. Ferrari Enzo ... costs a lot more! ;-)

NOO, the engine in the Ariel Atom is a 2.3ltr v8 honda engine. yes thats right, honda designed the engine for this car. hints that its not 6.1 or 5.7 Ltrs. yes :). japanese agile engines for the win.
Soory freind you think of the US atom.. the car was originally desined and built in the UK, Ariel then sanctioned a US manufacturer to buld the car to the same spec and dimentions to be sold in the US rather than ship uk cars. Engine development costs millions to the car companies.. usually, they invest together to develop a new engine that they need and then they all use it..
So, small companies like Ariel or even Pagani dont have the money to develop an engine, so they buy one that fits their needs.. that doesnt mean that the car is not theirs.. Lotus uses Toyota engines, Ariel uses Honda's, Pagani uses Mercedes's.. Whats the big deal? They've still developed the rest of the car and probably modified the engine too
yeah, probably.. most of the companies buy the engine closer to their needs and change it to make it perfect for their car.. like Lotus, they use engines made by Toyota, but they change the engine and add a supercharger made by them and Bam!
Lotus Elise is my favorite car.. just wish they make an electric one.. they're currently developing an electric car, but they don't reveal anything..
the tesla roadster is the next best thing, based on the elise yet powered by a load of laptop batteries. performance is impressive too, but they are pricey (around 92k) and the range isn't that good, around 120 miles depending how it's driven. but it's a start

not too long ago i was in north bimini and they had an atom 450 in a crate without the engine. i guess somebody had shipped it but didnt pay the taxes or somthing along the lines like that, but it was a waste. before then i have never heard about the ariel atom's. the one i saw was rusting away with the salt air. it just seemed out of place considering they are from britian? is that correct? i really wanted to get farther into it to see why it was there.
I would be very interested to see what that thing would do with a turbo instead of the supercharger. I am more a fan of turbo then supercharger. I find that the turbos hold up better in the higher rev ranges and make more power than the superchargers do. I might try and find where I can buy one and do that :D he he
Maybe a turbo might decrease the acceleration,while a supercharger is always on point,the turbo takes power especially before it reaches optimum output..Turbos have less power consistancy!.Course superchargers have there negatives too,fuel consumption being a major one!!...I dunno really
maybe they could use a small turbo, that way even in low rpm's the turbo wold give a nice boost, but when the revs got higher, the turbo would make no difference at all.. thats always hard to decide.. a big turbo that will add some serious top speed to the car, or a small one that will only add acceleration? or maybe a medium, that would make the gears to be changed faster, but besides that, it would only make car fans laugh at it..

there´s a new ariel atom with 500 bhp, it's both supercharged and turbocharged. So it has the supercharger boost at low revs and the turbo power at high revs. You can see it at the oficial site, it´s crazy I once saw a video with acceleration time from 100 mph to 160 mph in 2 secs
Just think how much quicker the Atom would be if it had a dual clutch tranny, like in the new Skyline GTR. It would be the quickest production car for a long time.
It would probably feel like getting launched off an air craft carrier.

It would defeat the whole purpose of the vehicle. Light, fast, agile....can't do that with an engine that weighs as much as the car. Can't beat Honda's hp to litre ratio.
@Zlyzer literally though,while a german car (m3 for example) can produce around 105-110 bhp per liter.... and a japanese car (S2000) can produce around 120 bhp per liter.... even the *better* more powerful USA cars (corvettes) with over 7 liters can barely produce 500bhp (around 70bhp per liter?) fail.

If americans went around and turbocharged everything they would get more hp/litre. Turbocharging is like taking steroids. Personally i like having all my torque at 3200 rpms, instead of waiting till 9000 RPMs for that big as T74 you have on your little 1.8 litre v-tec

The engine is a k20 from a Honda Civic with a supercharger strapped to it! The only thing that is British is the frame.
The main part of the car is Japanese.

Engine development costs millions to the car companies.. usually, they invest together to develop a new engine that they need and then they all use it..
So, small companies like Ariel or even Pagani dont have the money to develop an engine, so they buy one that fits their needs.. that doesnt mean that the car is not theirs.. Lotus uses Toyota engines, Ariel uses Honda's, Pagani uses Mercedes's.. Whats the big deal? They've still developed the rest of the car and probably modified the engine too

yeah, probably.. most of the companies buy the engine closer to their needs and change it to make it perfect for their car.. like Lotus, they use engines made by Toyota, but they change the engine and add a supercharger made by them and Bam!
Lotus Elise is my favorite car.. just wish they make an electric one.. they're currently developing an electric car, but they don't reveal anything..

the tesla roadster is the next best thing, based on the elise yet powered by a load of laptop batteries. performance is impressive too, but they are pricey (around 92k) and the range isn't that good, around 120 miles depending how it's driven. but it's a start

Even so.. I still prefer to wait for the electric Lotus. They said in a press conference that "we shouldn't expect anything less than the best electric car in the world" =D
After all, they have the experience, they made an electric Elise some years ago that they say was a commercial failure and now developed most of the Tesla.. I just wish they design it with the new design policy they use in the new Esprit. Totally awesome!

not too long ago i was in north bimini and they had an atom 450 in a crate without the engine. i guess somebody had shipped it but didnt pay the taxes or somthing along the lines like that, but it was a waste. before then i have never heard about the ariel atom's. the one i saw was rusting away with the salt air. it just seemed out of place considering they are from britian? is that correct? i really wanted to get farther into it to see why it was there.

I would be very interested to see what that thing would do with a turbo instead of the supercharger. I am more a fan of turbo then supercharger. I find that the turbos hold up better in the higher rev ranges and make more power than the superchargers do. I might try and find where I can buy one and do that :D he he

Maybe a turbo might decrease the acceleration,while a supercharger is always on point,the turbo takes power especially before it reaches optimum output..Turbos have less power consistancy!.Course superchargers have there negatives too,fuel consumption being a major one!!...I dunno really

maybe they could use a small turbo, that way even in low rpm's the turbo wold give a nice boost, but when the revs got higher, the turbo would make no difference at all.. thats always hard to decide.. a big turbo that will add some serious top speed to the car, or a small one that will only add acceleration? or maybe a medium, that would make the gears to be changed faster, but besides that, it would only make car fans laugh at it..
so they decide that in such a light car the supercharger is =D

there´s a new ariel atom with 500 bhp, it's both supercharged and turbocharged. So it has the supercharger boost at low revs and the turbo power at high revs. You can see it at the oficial site, it´s crazy I once saw a video with acceleration time from 100 mph to 160 mph in 2 secs

Just think how much quicker the Atom would be if it had a dual clutch tranny, like in the new Skyline GTR. It would be the quickest production car for a long time.
It would probably feel like getting launched off an air craft carrier.

It would defeat the whole purpose of the vehicle. Light, fast, agile....can't do that with an engine that weighs as much as the car. Can't beat Honda's hp to litre ratio.

@Zlyzer literally though,while a german car (m3 for example) can produce around 105-110 bhp per liter.... and a japanese car (S2000) can produce around 120 bhp per liter.... even the *better* more powerful USA cars (corvettes) with over 7 liters can barely produce 500bhp (around 70bhp per liter?) fail.

He makes it very clear that he loves the car for track use, but that for anything else, he thinks it's awful. @Zlyzer Oh yeah he ALWAYS hates every American car he drives. Tire noise can be different depending on what type of road you are on and your type of tire. He said he drove to the country side where he lives so yeah country roads are ALL rough and noisy in anything but the highest luxury car. The ZR1 is a fantastic piece of engineering and is a slap in the face to all the other supercars on the road. It is "The King" Plain and simple no way around it.

If americans went around and turbocharged everything they would get more hp/litre. Turbocharging is like taking steroids. Personally i like having all my torque at 3200 rpms, instead of waiting till 9000 RPMs for that big as T74 you have on your little 1.8 litre v-tec

hello there guys i need some help regarding the price of the atom 2. after long search in the web i was unable to find a steady price(not even in the manufacturer's site). reviewers of the car mentioned prices but without mentioning what extras were fitted with. i need the price with the extra overcharged 300hp engine, the big brakes pack and the windshield, nothing else(in euros or atleast in dollars). thnx anyway

problem with ecotec is its heaver than a honda. The lightest road engine with desent power is the rover 1.8 vvc.
