No, all the Newton's and the tablet were using WiFi with 128 bit WEP. I had an Apple Airport Base station etherneted to a PowerBook G4. The G4 was hosting a website with four frames, and each frame would request is contents from a separate Newton. So it was conference wireless network->wireless card on PowerBook->webserver running on PowerBook->ethernet out of PowerBook to Airport->wireless to each Newton.
Was that a VPN network?
