Ah Wink, why oh why did you ever leave? After you left, the set went downhill, the emcee selection went downhill too. I suspect had Wink stayed on, the show would have lasted several more seasons easily, but then again maybe not, as Jeopardy's & Wheel of Fortune's syndicated runs were just starting and they are still on to this day. That being said, I'd LOVE to see this show re-incarnated, but done far better than the 1990 edition.
Sad news to report: Charlie O'Donnell the announcer of The Joker's Wild, Tic Tac Dough, and best known for his role on Wheel of Fortune passed away on sunday at the age of 78 years old
Well here are some facts of the 1984-1985 Season, during that time, NBC had Snorks, Pink Panther & Sons, The Cosby Show, Miami Vice and HUNTER Starring Fred Dryer, also, the late Dixie Carter of Designing Women Fame joined the cast of Diff'rent Strokes and Patricia McPherson returned to Knight Rider as Bonnie Barstowe
@tnawcwvictoria and also during the 1984-85 TV season the late Michael Landon would produce, direct and star in his final long-running NBC series w/ "Highway to Heaven" co-starring his Little House on the Prairie co-star in the late Victor French. Night Court was back for its 2nd season and 1st full season and Punky Brewster w/ Soleil Moon Frye also debuted.
@tnawcwvictoria And "Three's Company"(on ABC) became "Three's a Crowd," lacking the chemistry it had when Jack, Janet, and Chrissy(or Terri) were the focal characters.
I remember watching 1:00 American Bandstand reruns following The Joker's Wild at 2:00, Tic Tac Dough at 2:30, The Dating Game at 3:00 and The Newlywed Game at 3:30. Then I watch the 4:00 Movie on WOR-TV Channel 9 that season,
September 10th, 1984 was the day when Bill Cullen hosted The Joker's Wild in his first season following the death of Jack Barry and Wink Martindale hosted Tic Tac Dough in his final season until Jim Caldwell took as the host one year later.
How can this be the season premiere if they were already in the show before?

Up until 2nd grade when I learned what "shuffle" meant, I used to think Wink was saying "Let's shovel the categories."

At 5:11, that same question was also asked on that day's Cullen TJW premiere.

Good to see that everyone remained strong at this point after having lost Jack. But I'm sure they knew that Jack would've wanted that from them.
