I disagree with you on that. Someone telling you that he or she is in pain (or is sick) would not cause you to have knowledge of whether that person really is in pain (or really is sick). The person could - for example - be lying to you about being in pain, or could be mistaken about having whatever sickness he or she claims to have.

God is said to exist "outside" the realm of human interaction so there can't be any actual investigation into him directly, only his supposed interaction with our plain of existence. And im not saying that science as a whole is going after religions, just that its findings tend to address claims attributed to a gods influence.
@adsensus God CAN"T be outside the realm of human interaction (time and space) because he's said to be the "creator" of man and the universe. The act of creating places him INSIDE the realm of time as it takes sequential actions to create (1st day, 2nd day, etc...). So either this is an obvious contradiction or the claim that he is outside of time and space is simply an arbitrary interpretation designed to excuse his absence when called upon. You can bet that science will explain what god cant.

Sure it COULD happen. But the probability is so low that we don't pay it any mind. So why treat "god" any different? Unless you have the numbers of different realities/universes with/without gods your number is shit. I disagree with you on that. Someone telling you that he or she is in pain (or is sick) would not cause you to have knowledge of whether that person really is in pain (or really is sick). I find it very interesting that quantum physics is illuminating the very same path that ancient wisdom has shed light on for thousands of years. One big blink of an eye. So ....maybe the better approach would be to give the knowledge when the ppl ask for it. Also I realized that we are not alone, by looking at the things in this world that do not change and the fact that we bleed, and see the same ppl throughout the times we wake up, so we are not alone. Only in our minds do we explore other worlds.

God or at least an equivalent phenomena doesn't actually get addressed specifically by science, just the claims of its direct involvement. Don't mistake the campaigning of some scientific atheists with what science actually is.

@adsensus In reference to your comment, I disagree. At least if your concept of god is that of a creator or such. Science does specifically address that. In fact ALL of science suggests that the universe gets along just fine without the need for a god.
As far as disproving or discrediting major religions, science isn't needed there. They achieve just fine on their own.

God is said to exist "outside" the realm of human interaction so there can't be any actual investigation into him directly, only his supposed interaction with our plain of existence. And im not saying that science as a whole is going after religions, just that its findings tend to address claims attributed to a gods influence.

@adsensus God CAN"T be outside the realm of human interaction (time and space) because he's said to be the "creator" of man and the universe. The act of creating places him INSIDE the realm of time as it takes sequential actions to create (1st day, 2nd day, etc...). So either this is an obvious contradiction or the claim that he is outside of time and space is simply an arbitrary interpretation designed to excuse his absence when called upon. You can bet that science will explain what god cant.

Lets say he is even a fraction as powerful as many religions claim... not being detected by "lesser" beings wouldn't be an issue if a "god" chose to do so. Sure, he can be in the universe... that doesn't mean that he needs to be "tangible" by human standards... why do you feel "god" needs to be a detectable force? Point is, there is no actual "god" figure we look for with science really... only is alleged works.

@adsensus Once again, there's no reason to entertain it. In science it's given a probabiliy factor of "non-zero". It's like the possibility of throwing a rock up in the air and it not coming down. Sure it COULD happen. But the probability is so low that we don't pay it any mind. So why treat "god" any different? There is absolutely NO reason to think one might exist and thousands of reasons to the contrary.

@aburling7 Once again... you can't quantify the odds of that. What are you even using as a basis for comparison to formulate this number? Unless you have the numbers of different realities/universes with/without gods your number is shit. As for the reason to entertain the notion in the first place, theists tend to get extremely turned off and wall up when you flat out say "no god, no reason to believe". I've found that chipping away at the faith by first casting doubt works well.

We are way too young in our cosmic understanding to even begin to make such an assertion. At best you could say that "it doesn't appear that the universe was created by and intelligent entity". Look at it like this, theist are stating what they know to be FACT and you claiming to KNOW the nature of the universe is equally devoid of FACT.

If in our infancy some desert nomad had suggested supernatural billy goats created the universe but one must have faith to truly "feel" it, and people were too naive to know better so they passed it on, I have no doubt you would be telling me to open my mind to the "possibility" of supernatural billy goats. Even though the onus of proof lies with those making the positive claim for its existence, they do not see it that way. @adsensus In case you've forgotten 99% of the people on earth once thought the world was flat. And even after the enlightenment period most still believed the sun evolved around the earth. So stating that the vast majority of the people on the planet believe in a creator means nothing in this discussion. Stupidity is a pre-existing condition. But it is treatable. If one clings to superstions they perpetuate their ignorance.

@aburling7 Weeding out religion, without some major event to accelerate the process, is going to be a gradual process. Your stance promotes a cold turkey method, mine is a weening off one. I've abandoned the cold turkey method simply because it only makes the devout throw up a wall and all dialog and hope to slap them outta their religion gets pissed on. I dont really see much harm in them thinking there is something out there since there are no religious rules attached to that belief. imo.

@adsensus it's going to take several generations. I have 5 children ages 14 - 28 who are all atheist/agnostic. having been brought up with christianity crammed down my throat I swore I would never try to influence them either way, and I didn't
People used to believe what they were told because they knew no better. But todays gen. has proof the world is billions of years old that there was no world flood. religions are slowly dying out due to their inconsistent claims about reality.

@ineedaname777777 If you can't even describe 'god' then you CAN'T know if it exists or what its characteristics are... so you've said NOTHING about its existence when you repeat all those descriptives. Furthermore, mathematically, an infinite god CANNOT exist. If he goes infinitely back in time and/or space, infinitely back to his NON-starting point so he could then turn around and come back to the present, it could never happen. Obviously you can never return from a place that never existed.

@aburling7 Have you ever read the teachings of Jesus, not the New Testament with just 50 of the sayings but all of them , In 1945 The Book of Peter was discovered along with some dead seas scrolls, it holds the teachings that the Christians where Crucified for having by the new Catholic's who we know call Christians, I don't have an idea why. @ineedaname777777 Yes, I have read the Nag Hammadi collection. Again though, they and the Bible were written during a time when man thought that earthquakes and "bloody" water were curses from 'god'. They didn't know about plate tectonics or chemicals in the clay caused rivers to oxidize and become red. So much of what they wrote about was exaggerated and sensationalized due to ignorance. Therefore we MUST view those things through 21st century eye and with 21st century understanding.
