I saw this guy on the Robert Johnson Crossroads "documentary" quest CD, and I could not believe how good he was.
Fantastic, and he was playing his Diddly bow with such ferocity I thought I was watching a white Son House attack his instrument as only he could.
Great singer, too.
He sounds amazingly like Robin Trower's (think "Bridge of Sighs) incredible singer, James Dewar.
I wish I could go to Memphis to see this young man tear it up.

Hey PinkOld, is that a movie or something?
moellphi 2 years ago
Yes, it is.
It's a French film called La Route du Blues, and you can find an excerpt of it right here on YouTube.
Don't worry, it's in English with French subtitles, so you can enjoy it as is.
The footage of Richard performing is the real highlight, as far as I am concerned.
I saw him when I went with my family, my dad bought his new CD, i even uploaded one of his songs... he's really good.

I just need to ask anyone who's in Memphis during a Friday or a Saturday to get there ass down to Beale street and check Richard Johnston out.
We just walk by and saw a huge crowed, tuned in and got hooked, he is truly amazing! One of the top moments in my life!

Great stuff. Beale St has changed a lot since I was there in 1992, didn't they build a University on it? Sacrilege.
Cheers

without johnny lowebow, richard wouldnt be able to play half of the songs that he plays because john made the cigar boxes that he plays
pugh1982 4 years ago
you know without johnny lowebow, richard wouldnt have a cigar box guitar to play because john made them.
Way better than Johnny Lowebow, but then you all KNEW that.
