Hey Flex-- I bet people just love listening to all your wisdom. The kid's age is of importance concerning this music. Because you don't understand that doesn't mean others don't. You apparently aren't able to contribute anything worthwhile so why make yourself look stupid?
great tunes but ive always wondered...is "bed of roses" about an 18 year old who gets it on with a 35 year old woman who took him in off the streets? sounds that way to me.
I grew up listening to the Statlers becuse of my Dad, he played their 8-track tapes all the time when a new one came out he would buy it. He listened to others but the Statler is his favorites. I got my love for real country music from him, I like some of todays artists like Alan Jackson and George Strait but thats about it. Thank you for posting this video I watch it often.
Older people have a responsibility to show younger people a way back to the decent internal reality in this music and others; no one helps them and they are given trash.
@westchesterny Some of us older people try. But the younger people aren't interested and are so brainwashed by the public schools and their peers, they don't seem to hear.
WOW!! What a combination: Johnny Cash and the Statler Brothers. You can't ask for anything more. I remember their last outdoor concery (4th of July) in their hometown
of Staunton, Virginia. We took lawn chairs, cooler chest, baseball hats, watermelon, and our 2 sons and spent the day listening to their beautiful voices coming from the stage. I'll never forget how handsome they were and how they harmonized. We drove up from North Carolina and had the best day. Thanks for the wonderful video.
I cried my tears out to see this i was born on 1975 but i wiss i was there!my daddy and momma just to play the records al over again. This was making real music like roy orbison and elvis with real voices en guitar instruments not like the music like today i lived for now only in de 60,70,and 90's.I loved cash so much its sad that johnny & june are gone may the rest in peace the statler harmony vocals are beautifull thanx for posting i have the dvd already greetings from holland.
The most beloved country music band. The Statlers music brings back sweet memories from the past. So glad to have lived in Virginia when we could be a part of Happy Birthday USA. Thank you for your music. Johnny Cash was great also and we will never forget your greatness!
Although I like these songs. I find your comment strange. This is after all, a song about an 18 year old boy being corrupted by 35 year old prostitute!
@pigpenthecat "there is just hate and nasty things in current music" . You do know that this is a song about a guy losing his virginity to the village bike?
Instead of the normal lead guitar riff you hear on the recording, Lew plays it in the "boom-chicka" style a la Luther Perkins that you hear in all of Johnny Cash's music. Very cool version.
And your children are glad to witness the masters of amerian country music. my father is in his 60's and he taught me the true masters... The statler brothers, Kenny rogers and Johnny cash. Thank you father for keeping them alive...
@onebaud I'm 60 and I totally agree with you! They are so amazing and their (Johnny, Statlers and so many more) concerts have brought me and my children so much pleasure!
The others are Phil Balsley and Lew DeWitt (playing guitar). Lew had Crohn's disease and left the Statlers in 1982, and passed away in 1990. Lew was replaced by Jimmy Fortune. Jimmy has a different voice--and wrote several of the Statler's subsequent hits including, Elizabeth, Flowers on the Wall, My Only Love, and others. For more info about a remarkable group, check out the Statler's website, and the Statler entry in Wikipedia.
Great lyrics, beautiful melodies, and wonder hamony.

I'm not really into country music, since I'm more of a punk rocker, alternative and else. But hell, this is so classic. And Statler Brothers are truly epic. :) Cheers from Poland.
I've always loved them and they just got better through the years,it was terrible when Lew passed away but Jimmy Fortune stepped up to bat very well and brought a lot to the table as well,no he wasn't better than Lew but very well talented in his own right.
Bravo Statlers and I know Lew is looking down with a big smile on his face.
I was wrong, wrong and so wrong about these guys. After flowers on the wall i said just another bible thumping group. I miss many years of great stuff by these guys cause of that attitude. thanks to youtube i have been born again with the STATLERS......
This is a very sexual song but nobody seemed to notice that back then. The premise of the song is that a young man goes to find his manhood by visiting a woman named Rose who teaches him about sex, "where I was born to be a man."
I just realized I quoted the lyric wrong. It says "...Where I was taught to be a man..." Earlier I thought they were saying "...born to be a man." Yes, it is very suggestive, but a good song from some good ole boys.
My friend has this dvd and we spent hours trying to figure out what the statler was playing for a guitar, perkins also had a teal one. Is it just a weird fender?

It does not get any better than this!! They are the greatest. Nobody can come close to these guys right here. It's great to be alive today to listen to these great artists. Lucky us!!!
You bet they are the best. My sister who passed on requested the song from them( You are my sunshine) and everytime i hear it It reminds me of her. It is the only memory I have and I owe it to the THE STATLERS Good PEOPLE
Why cant country singers be more like Coe, Cash and the Statler Brothers? Today its nothing but bland, lily white metrosexuals all singing about the same syrupy crap.
