@kebabish3 . The danger area for the TRENT engines at idle power is 4.5M (15 ft) infront of the engine intake. At max takeoff power it is 8.9M (29ft).

@factoredin The captain knows because there are LED display signs at each gate that will tell the pilots when to stop and if movement is necessary. That's why the other ground crew picks up the controller on the end of the cable after the aircraft is lined up.

If you look closely at 0:41 the marshal points up to a targetting system i believe which the pilot is to use to get into the gate precisely.

At 0:12 the A380 is making a left hand turn, but the marshaller isn't making an 'go left' signal? I thought the signal he makes at that point is a 'hold brake' signal, for when the other guys are putting the blocks around the wheels. Impressive big airplane by the way.
