There are jobs out there, but may not pay enough to live off on, and only be part time. My brother told me that our government needs to stop the unemployment program so people will get off their asses and go to work than live on unemployment. He has told me to scrub toilets, wait on tables and wash dishes is better than sitting on my ass collecting unemployment. Too many has too much pride to even consider a construction job. He has told me mexicans are willing to work! US are lazy he said!

The reporter says 60,000 homes were foreclosed, but there are not 60,000 people in this homeless camp, only a few hundred at most. That is counting homeless from all over the Inland Empire, a 3 county area. With a population of over 4 million people, the Inland Empire is the 14th largest metropolitan area in the United States.

This story is BS. Yes, they did report it in local and national news here. The "homeless" camp is in Ontario California. ALL the people staying at that camp were already homeless.

The camp grew in size when homeless from surrounding cities heard about it and flocked there from San Bernardino and other areas where the shelters are already full.

I say this story is BS because all the people there are not people who lost their homes due to the lending crisis. These people were homeless already.

Not all of them are just homeless. Some of those people flocked there because they have lost their homes. The story is misleading because they don't inform you of that but you can't downplay the fact that a lot of people are going homeless from the housing crisis and are doing what they must to survive...

I'm not trying to downplay the homelessness created by the loan crisis. What I'm saying is, I'm familiar with this encampment and the people there. They were ALL already homeless and it was just local homeless. After they aired a story about it in the local news, homeless from all over started flocking there. The BBC story made it seem like they had all just recently lost their homes due to the loan crisis and that there were 60,000 people there. They exaggerated and misrepresented the facts.

Yea, my boyfriend lived in Cali, and he did tell me that they were there for a long time... At least it gives those people a place to go, so they don't feel like they are less than for losing their homes... I just see it everyday, people getting evicted, moving before it even gets there, at least every other house within a 10 block radius have gone up for sale or rent, I see the toll it's taking...
