@mcwhitta Agree...Same thing happended to my X last month.....Lost ability to send video messages to certain phones... I was given the run around for 3 weeks, even sent a replacement X, same issues occurred. They just yesterday sent me a new replacement X2. Lets hope this is better.

@sethtastical call around 8 or 9pm so you get NON east coast call centers. East coast call centers don't not want to help you. Mid and west coast do. Ask them which call center they are around the beginning of the call. If they're east coast just hang up on them. Its not worth it.
The Google operating system for the Droid X & the Droid X2 suxs!!! I started out with the Droid X in Aug 2010. I'm now on my 6th replacment and have just ordered my 7th (3 Droid X & 4 Droid X2). These phones run slow and often lock up to the point that you can't make calls or use any applications. I run the typical apps like email, facebook & twitter. Save your money folks.
HDMI output changed from 720 to 1080pi? Does it really make that big of a diff when viewing? I know the diff on an actual TV's specs it does, but with this dx, it doesn't look anywhere near 720pi displayed on my plasma. What about the video output problem where the system player will not output flv and other files. Did they fix that or do I have to continue workaround it?

I got the Droid X when it came out a year ago and it's amazing compared to other droid phones. If they put a front camera on the X2, I would of bought it when it came out too (even with so much similarity).
also on the back of the x2 on the opposite side of the menu,home. etc. buttons are, there is a small angle near the bottom, i believe that's to keep the back of the phone from scraping against things and scratching :)

One thing I'm interested in that I rarely see in smartphone reviews is a comparison between the voice dialing features. I use my phone with a handsfree device for a motorcycle helmet, which means the feature is useless if it requires some sort of on screen conformation to complete the sequence or doesn't confirm prompts with voice, etc. My friend's X works great. Wondering if this is retained with the X2 (not sure if Moto supplements Android's voice features for this).

Just from what i've seen messing around with the X2 at the store (running gingerbread at the time, i believe), it was much quicker. before i upgraded to gingerbread on the X1, it would take me almost 30 seconds just to create a shortcut. I'm hoping i'll have better luck this time. and honestly, the camera button (IMO) isn't that big of a deal. you can always just put a shortcut on the desktop.

I have a similar problem. I have gone through 5, all of them with the problem that they freeze, then get stuck on the motorola symbol. They gave me a DX2 finally. Let see if that solves the problem

there both great but not much of a difference besides the camera button and processor my friend has the x2 i have the original were both happy but if it really matters that much to you about the speed maybe the x2 is a better choice but i am happy with the droid x thumbs up if you agree

i dont think youll see major difference until apps are made for devices with the dual core. some things will load slightly faster, but as a developer i know most people still shoot for the single core device requirements because thats what most users have. wait a year or so when everyone who currently has a single core phone can upgrade to a dual core and youll start to notice the difference because the apps will be beefier
...one more note to verizon people seeing this, acknowledge why given away customers are choosing the competition (iPhone) before you modify your counter attack.

I bought my Droid X when it was released with the 16GB card.... nice size for the price I got it for. I don't understand why are they dumbing down the sizes anymore. If anything they should be including the 32GB sdcard or even better a 64GB card, so we can kick Apple's ass in iPhone competition.
Yesterday was the first day Ive really gotten to play with a smartphone. It was my sisters new iphone. It was amazing. But.....when I watched a battlefield 3 game video on youtube on the wireless network....the quality was AMAZING!!! but....it stuttered every now and then. I rewatech the video on 3G, it didnt sutter, but the quality was like less than half of what it was in the wifi. Have you come across any vidoes that stuttered on hi res on the x2? Im drawn to the driod bc I like google!

Thanks for the review. I got a droid X about two months ago. Imagine my surprise when I went to pay my bill last week and they were advertising the X2. Anyway, you assured me I didn't make a mistake. I'm sure the X2 is going to be quite the phone in a year now. But I'm sure the next droid will be out by then..it's an endless cycle ploy by verizon to keep you with them. I was going to quit 2 years ago, and I'm almost into year 5, with another 2 to go.
The lack of a camera button really killed the droid x 2 for me. I don't see any reason why they would take one off unless they seriously needed THAT much room to pack in the extra Horsepower.

@RLockwich they both have similar motoblur skins on the UI. The actual OS versions are different. The X2 is running Froyo and the X is running Gingerbread. The X2 did not come with Gingerbread nor is the update currently out yet when the video was made. They do look very similar though but are not the same when you check the software version in settings.
@zollotech, they released a softer version of Gingerbread to avoid a total software wipe and made the transfer to Gingerbread without bricking problems, awesome update, I have mine when my X1 was replaced with X2, Verizon and MOTO are awesome, better without the side camera button, voice activation for pics and flicks works seamlessly..@RLockwich, X@ came 2.2.2, then 2.3.3..just sayin, your half right..

Hi Aaron, does the X2 use different technology than the original one? I'm put off by the standard lcd like the one on my droid 1, cause it's illegible in the daylight.

Droid X camera button sucks, that's prolly why they took it off, I only use the camera button to get into the camera program and touch the screen to take the shot. Worst camera button i have encountered
Aaron, what are your views on Motorola as a whole? Say you put them against a company such as HTC or Samsung. I think that woud be an interesting video; comparing all of the Android device manufacturers as a whole as opposed to comparing phone against phone.

Can you compare the screens? I thought the X2 would be awesome, but I am disappointed coming from the original droid 1, because the pixels look terrible on the x2!

Thanks for the review. I got a droid X about two months ago. Imagine my surprise when I went to pay my bill last week and they were advertising the X2. Anyway, you assured me I didn't make a mistake. I'm sure the X2 is going to be quite the phone in a year now. But I'm sure the next droid will be out by then..it's an endless cycle ploy by verizon to keep you with them. I was going to quit 2 years ago, and I'm almost into year 5, with another 2 to go.

The lack of a camera button really killed the droid x 2 for me. I don't see any reason why they would take one off unless they seriously needed THAT much room to pack in the extra Horsepower.

@RLockwich they both have similar motoblur skins on the UI. The actual OS versions are different. The X2 is running Froyo and the X is running Gingerbread. The X2 did not come with Gingerbread nor is the update currently out yet when the video was made. They do look very similar though but are not the same when you check the software version in settings.

@zollotech, they released a softer version of Gingerbread to avoid a total software wipe and made the transfer to Gingerbread without bricking problems, awesome update, I have mine when my X1 was replaced with X2, Verizon and MOTO are awesome, better without the side camera button, voice activation for pics and flicks works seamlessly..@RLockwich, X@ came 2.2.2, then 2.3.3..just sayin, your half right..

@RLockwich actually no its not...the droid x2 comes stock with android 2.2 froyo...it just looks like it is running gingerbread because its running the new version of blur. if u dont believe me watch an unboxing/review of the x2 by phonedog or any of those cellphone sites that do cell phone reviews on youtube

Hi Aaron, does the X2 use different technology than the original one? I'm put off by the standard lcd like the one on my droid 1, cause it's illegible in the daylight.

@jgsk111 it uses a different chipset. It uses the nvidia tegra 2 instead of the tiOMAP chip in the original. Other than that they are very similar

Gingerbread (2.3) is an android operating system. Gingerbread (2.3) is an updated version of froyo (2.2)

Droid X camera button sucks, that's prolly why they took it off, I only use the camera button to get into the camera program and touch the screen to take the shot. Worst camera button i have encountered

Aaron, what are your views on Motorola as a whole? Say you put them against a company such as HTC or Samsung. I think that woud be an interesting video; comparing all of the Android device manufacturers as a whole as opposed to comparing phone against phone.
