  • O.o dont they realize death is like a footstep away ?

  • No way!!

  • brave workers

  • God I'm a pussy

  • Unbelievable!! Those workers were real life heroes!! How could they do that without any safety equipment? It was God the safety "equipment" they had, nothing else! They used to walk on those steel bars as they were just 3 inches of the ground!! Absolutely sureal!! Hats off to all of them! Extraordinarily ordinary guys! Just by watching this video I feel dizzy and almost faint. Those workers did deserve a very fat pay check at the end of the month, just as a reward for their amazing courage.

  • so thats what true americans used to be like...i wonder what the hell happened

  • The thing that you never see is the crane operators that did the picks and swung in the steel to those guys. Such skill with the old waterfall winches and friction breaking they had in those times to position the beams where they wouldn't knock their crew off is beyond believe. Hats off to the crews on that job ..1930 ? Amazing !!

  • "FF551-160131" in the title I don't think was the safety regulation, judging by this footage. Amazing, really.

Also, I never knew they had video cameras in those days. :)

  • @capricious71 They had "movie" cameras in those days. They used frame by frame film but a smaller than the movies of Hollywood.16 mm rather than 32. The movie "moving picture" was invented by Thomas Edison.

  • What year was the empire state building made

  • @lilrob2469 It was built 1930-31 and as you can see, it was BEFORE the now required safety shoes, hardhats, safety vests and tie off harnesses to prevent one from falling more than just a few feel. The Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world from 1931 until Tower One of the World Trade Center was topped out in 1970. It was surpassed in 1973 when the Sears Tower in Chicago was topped out. The NEW Tower One World Trade will be the tallest when completed at 1,776 ft.

  • spidey-spidey!

    wow, insanely amazing.!

  • one wrong step and your history

  • I saw some iron workers do this during construction of One World Trade Center, but it wad only a couple stories.

  • Mother of God...no saftey ropes or anything likethat and they are just wandering around up there. Ive a fear of heights anf if i was up there i would probably faint with fear and fall to my death.

  • They are just walking around casually, I mean how do you do that

  • It is amazing how built up New York is even back then.

  • I just read that there were only 5 deaths(officialy) while it was being built of which only one was from falling. Plus it only took 1 year 45 days to build. I went up it in 93 and shat myself (hate high buildings), hats off to these guys with their testicles of steel.

  • Fucken peckerz

  • they have heavy duty balls i would have shit myself if i was up there

  • if there is one thing this video teaches us is that we as a society have turned into a bunch of pussies

  • I wouldn't be surprise if people lost there life working on the Empire State building!

  • Afraid Of Heights Anyone? XD

  • Comment removed

  • wow

  • OMG!!!!!!! These guys had either great balls, or no brains! Being that high without any safetylines is fuckin nuts!! And me, with a GREAT!!! fear of hights, would never ever, even with safetylines, be on that hight, never. Respect for those guys! (Y)

  • they all have balls of "Steel"

  • its bad enough just to climb up there. but the fact that they have work to do up there is just frightening

  • what type of core was used on this building?

  • it looked like th guy at 00:27 slipped. he was sooo lucky.

  • Safety shoes and helmets are most effective there !

  • man... and those guys did this every day for almost nothing

  • fearless ! unlike us today... not all but most of us

  • these people are tough and brave.

  • These guys woulda made Chuck Norris their b&@#%!

  • the guy in 0:25 - 40 shuffeling through the planks, 1 fatal mistake and BAM

  • what if they slip?? or during the heat of work they forget were they are stepping and fall down, arent they concerned about anything ?

  • they are walking on wooden planks

    WOODEN PLANKS FOR FUCK SAKE

    THESE GUYS ARE BADASS

  • im dead maybe after the first 5 minutes

  • A very hard work O.O

  • Thats crazy being up that high and acting like its nothing. I guess when your Irish, Italian, etc and come to the US hopin for the American Dream youl do whatever it takes to get it.

  • Where's their PPE?

  • 0:14-0:17 Woooh! Does He Fall down?

  • I read back a few pages in the comments. Most of them show amazement at what these guys did. Yet to them, and everyone else living then, it was just life, across many occupations. No offence to anyone personally, but doesn't it show so well the transfomation of people into soft, safety-obsessed creatures of comfort and "security" in recent decades. Almost everything is considered potentially "dangerous" and must be assessed for risk. Sad really. No real power left in anyone now.

  • those guys didnt have osha or big brother and they made it! Those days are gone forever.....look at all the great cities they created!

  • Who da fuck is OSHA!

  • and not a single fuck was given

  • How can they do that, without being scared??

  • ouu, I imagine, I'm sitting ~400m height, smoking cigarette, and suddenly:

-OU fck !! I see my house from here.. but wait, what doing my neighbor at my home with my wife?? !!!

  • Omg ! -)

  • NO WAY! NO FRIGGIN WAY I will never understand how any man [or woman] could ever do that job! If buildings had to rely on me for their construction, they would only be one story high !! [And even then I wouldn't do the roofs!]

  • these dudes has no saftey at all this job took balls

  • Balls of fucking steel!!!!!!!

  • Did the concept of falling like 300m and having your head shoot out your ass on impact not get mentioned to these guys or were they just awesome

  • Those people were crazy.

  • I think the Chrysler Building looks jealous, in the background. I'm being serious

  • Whoa. Very Tall Buildings hurt my soul, even when filtered through 70-odd years and a TV set. But in a way, they heal it too. They are complex monsters.

  • ***** gf's great grandfather.

  • my girlfriends grandfather worked on that, and he was an ordinary joe soap, he dad told me , that his dad said, most of the workers on it were irish, and it just didnt register with them aout the fear, some guys were even afriad of heights, but just blanked it out for a pay check.... every day they were all told to double their laces, real tight, and make sure their soles were dry, the wind sometimes came from nowhere and they had to just drop and hold tight.

  • @arsenalylknw12010 Amazing! Did he ever mention the Iroquois natives being apart of the construction? Thanks.

  • They must not know what appens if they fall.....

  • Lol just walking around like it's nothing.

  • Ground up in 410 days or so. Today's workers, designers and engineers cold never do that. Too much whining, corruption and government.

  • Awesome - thanks for sharing this!

  • my heart was in my mouth, felt sick lol

  • Surprised the building didn't collapse under the weight of their massive balls.

  • @DonZabu OMG

  • omg like.....

  • Oh my GOD I've got sweaty hands.

  • well.. I would shit bricks.

as a matter of fact I shit bricks by only watching this..;$

  • Unreal... I feel a tingling in my legs watching that footage. Utter fearlessness...

  • many great pictures of these steelmen....a great tribute to them.

  • That's the Chrysler Building man

  • such bravery and all in a days work!

  • loads of them died

  • damn you fuck up ur dead

  • oh my god. my hands are sweating right now. I feel so sick.

  • me too, that is terrifying!

  • @JoeJC yeah really high up

  • mate these men are true men who got paid peanuts not like todays life dive around a football pitch and pocket £80,000 a week!!

  • fuck yeah

  • wow... earning a living like this is not easy for these construction workers... i salute them!!

  • Esta gente si que tenia nervios de acero.

  • now these are some bro's.. so hardcore, i wanna go there a be one of them.. and push some guys off if they get out of line. this takes not be afraid of heights to a whole nother level
