The reason I landed so FAR to the left on 21 is because of FOD on the runway. The centerline of the pavement has started to lift, right in front of the taxiway leading to my house. When the runway is overlaid, I will try to land on the centerline.
The plane featured in the Short Wing Piper Club monthly magazine was very similar to this Tri Pacer. IIRC, this was about 20+yrs ago,.
The Tri Pacer featured was a total basket case, and the owner restored it to pristine condition. Although I don't recall the exact tail number, I DO remember the "India Papa".
The owner nick-named the plane "IL Papa", in honor of The Pope. (John Paul II)
In any event, your friend has a nice bird. "Uncool" though they may be to some, I love the planes !!
I like the short wing Pipers, the Colt and Tri-pacer. N2631P is owned by my friend Mark Friebel. It is a nice plane, but not fully restored. He has been talking about replacing the headliner most recently. I do not think this is the plane you are referring to, however it is still an awesome bird.
Ask your friend if he wants to formation fly to Alaska next summer 2011? Tripacers ROCK.Message me.
