Also, IIRC on Curtis McConley's website for many years, he had the actual commission date: it was May 15, 1989 (it fell on a Monday, too I think) on Channel 2 News at Noon, twenty years ago today. Wasn't that great as the PNP, or the 92, but nevertheless this marks the 20 years of this era of WCBS-TV.
The best WCBS-TV geeks know that Brian Williams' first NY gig was there and the NBC execs were wanting him till he got the network news gig over at NBC in 1993, just less than 7 years at the local level on Channel 2.
A "Clean Open" is an open done without any mistakes. I've been a Technical Director for live TV news for the past 25+ years. What makes you qualified to know more than me?
Also how could I say you were more qualifed when you never said any of this... you are more qualified on the issue when you spammed the WNBC blopper clip not too long ago with your rants over and over about what Sue said a year ago... Fair enough arguement?
It's called a "keyable open", because you can use a luminence key to key out the black portion and have the rest remain keyed over a camera (normally showing a wide shot of the entire studio).
Before you ask...the black is normally "super black" at 0 ire instead of regular TV black 7.5 ire (In the NTSC standard) so that you can get a clean key.
I'll put in a nicer tone: Disregard what I said... it's too bad that I cannot get into this business given the "new economy" - TV stations will be out of business in 5 years. It's too bad that I won't be in this business. and I appoligize my ingorance. Some large markets and most mid to smaller markets still are Chyron shops FWIW...
You want some free advice? If you want to get into this business, stop acting overconfident. Second, there will always be a need for TD's and Graphics Operators....no computer can ever do that.
Again I applogize - I didn't mean to be way out there - I though it was a little overconfident - but not what you are telling me... could we just clear this thread please... :-)
And Bolaris came back in 2003 (the same time WCBS picked up KCBS's News in Focus package..ironic, the same day they picked up that pack, KCBS dropped it).
Brian Williams did work for the CBS-owned stations: WCAU Philadelphia (now an NBC O&O) and, of course, WCBS New York.
Seeing that this is the case, I wonder why their parent company (CBS) did not have any way Brian can join alongside Dan Rather.
Nothing from the CBS National News, but defaulted to NBC National News.

How did you get that? The end was a key so it wasn't from broadcast.

Never assume and never be overcobfident. Never underestimate who you are talking to.

BTW: Most places don't use Chyron anymore. They use Deko or other PC driven devices.

Just in case you were wondering.

When did Brian Williams go and anchor Channel 2 News at Noon with Carol Martin? I thought it was by this time.
chyrongeek 3 years ago
I think that was the early 90s
wtvg1 3 years ago
IIRC, I believe it was 1990.
(RIP Reggie Harris and Rock Rote's career...)

And I believe in Reggie died in 2000.

And he also worked at KXAS in Dallas; Mydog2150 has a clip of D/FW openings from 1986. Check it out over there.
