i agreeded with your argument up until you mentioned they should invest in their iphone , i think that apple wheather or not they will , should make a netbook , the iphone is great BUT , there are many other fields that apple could and probably should invest in. The iphone is a great prduct but not everyne wants one , they have a hefty phone service charge with it. But i just think apple should try to get more people into their big money making business computers.
I realize this, however the macbook air is the closest thing to a netbook that Apple has right now. Also I mentioned in the video that one of the benefits of netbooks was their cheaper price points, and that I don't think Apple would be able to make a netbook without it being at least $800.
You made some really good points. I want to get a netbook and also an imac for my main computing. For me that would be the best of both worlds. I also, think you are dead on when you say Apple sees itself as a high end product. I am just wondering why they have not made a macbook or imac with a touch screen. I thought they would be the first with this but they are not. I for one, hope they never go "cheap" you can get cheap anywhere. I feel good knowing that Apple makes something better.
I agree totally. Right now my iMac is my main computer and I use one of the first black macbooks as my secondary machine. I also love the fact that Apple makes premier products (and makes you pay a premier price for them). The only bad thing about that is my Macbook is getting a little long in the tooth and I'm looking for something new, but at the lowest entry price for a Macbook Pro ($1999) you can get a PC laptop with similar specs for much cheaper. Thanks for the comment!
I don't think the Mac Mini is at all comparable to a Netbook. Most netbooks use the Intel Atom processor, which is SINGLE core, whilst the Mini is a DUAL core processor (and a "full-fledged" processor). They're not equatable.
That said, I do agree with you. I don't think Steve would let it happen at all.
Thanks for the feedback! You're right, it's admittedly a weak comparison but I think it's interesting that their cheapest machine (with no monitor, keyboard or mouse) is $600 - $800. I'd be shocked if Apple did make a tablet or netbook, let alone if it was in the sub-$500 price range.
Oh, I whole-heartedly agree. I don't think it's their style and I don't think it's in their "DNA" as companies like Sony like to claim. I think that, if anything, some sort of multitouch tablet (like an oversized iPod touch) would be much more probably, but for no cheaper than $800.
That said, I'd rather have a netbook with a tablet screen like the upcoming Asus eee T91GO or T101H. Maybe you could even Hackintosh it?
Has everyone forgotten the Newton mini-company From the 90'S!!?????

If apple made a netbook it would probably cost at least a $1000 or more. You just have a feeling its going to be overpriced.

Yep, that's what I was thinking too. Someone I know has an MSI Wind that they made into a Hackintosh, it's pretty cool despite the small screen.
