  • i don't care if the lyrics are about drugs. the music rocks and the "sound" of the words and how its performed is like a neverending melody. in fact, i make it a neverending melody. rewind, replay constantly. wait.. did i say rewind? oh dear.. forgive me we are in the electronic digital world now. duh!

  • i have to repeat "rayod192" who said it perfectly... The Verve.... THE BEST BAND EVER.

  • sounds like rolling people

It's great they have an own sound

  • im just glad mccabe and ashcroft met and left us this stuff man a storm in heaven is the best album ever made for me anyway i never get tired of it

  • @jinky2go2 .. so true.. this and all in the mind.. sums up what the verve were all about for me, seeing them live for the first time, i just know they would leave a legacy they did..and yeah ASIH, is the best.

  • EXIT CALM are the followers of Verve.

    Check them out

  • It still bugs me that this album never had it's equal. Yet I've meet ardent Northern Soul, and Urban Hymns fans. So to each is own. But Nick McCabe is still my hero in all of this. Whatever my opinion of Ashcroft is. I will never forget how much of an amazing vocalist and lyricist he is.

  • mcabe is the ultimate soudscape guitarist, and this is along with this is music are his true opus'es

  • clearly the best male voice england has produced by a mile !

  • yeah you got that in one. theyll never be another ASHCROFT... love this vid..

  • First album. it's a sergeant pepper dude.

  • still makes me shudder when i hear this...the album still the best...still my god like genius

  • Such a good album

  • Is this a remix???

  • Sounds cleaner and more pronounced than the original mix...

  • I agree, but this track was meant to be mixed darker. I like it either way it goes though.

  • It might be the USA mix which appears on the album "No Come Down". It's sound very much like it and I prefer that version because of the clearer vocals.

  • It's the USA Mix which appears on the alumb "No Come Down"

  • Thank you. I was thinking of this song as I left work today....

    Peace!

  • Stunning. My stomach still churns when I listen to this sometimes...

'See the world through my dirty lonely mixed up mind'

    Wow.

  • I love "THE VERVE"> this band made some fantastic music>makes me feel great when I listen to the VERVE.

  • best single

  • this band is cool

  • The Verve, best band ever.

  • great song, amazing video... must love the verve... god i missed a bit of psychedelia :) (I hope my spelling's correct)

  • Great song ! Has a U2 sound to it. I just found this band because of the "Bittersweet" song. I just bought their singles 92-98 CD....Fantastic too !! Many great songs on this CD. These guys write meaningful lyrics. And for some reason beyond me....Most every band from England/ Europe write better than my American counterparts. Here in the states, I think they want to appeal to 15 year olds....Look at the RAP Crap on the market....This is the best we (here) are now producing....

  • That's not necessarily true. Have you ever heard England's mainstream music? Its just as bad as America's mainstream music. There's good bands in every country, you just have to find them. I do agree that England has produced some of the greatest bands of all time, just look at the Beatles. Still BajaGreg66, I think you're a tool.

  • i agree with you on the rap thing, i'm ready for rap to die away and never come back

  • @bajagreg66

Their music is awesome mate, and the singles are just the surface. There's a plethora of awesome b-sides, non released album songs and demo/live performances worth hunting down.

  • this song is like a steamrolling machine

  • fantastic:)

  • Mad Richard.

  • da shiet!

  • long live the verve

  • see the world through my dirty lonely mixed up mind...

love this song since the first time i listened to it

    so glad they came back!!!

  • Valium....

  • I miss being this high...

  • maddddddddd richard!!!! come on!!!!!!!!

  • Love this tune....Richard is wasted in it...always was in those days..lol

  • Personally, i think ashcroft's one of the best singers out there, and i often cite this song as proof

  • Ashcroft is incredibly attractive in this vid.

  • hihi seams that Richard got confused after the girl kissed him

  • were they acting or were they that stoned?

  • Oh, I guess richard was that stoned...

  • yea i was about to say someones stoned in this vid

  • I don't think so...

  • Its f amazing the guitar sings in my head two days after.. love

  • oooh blue!

  • hugely underrated band.... :(

to me this is miles better than any whatsthestorymorningglory's

  • i love the verve but you are out of your mind if you think that....fairplay to ya though...to each his own...:)

  • Maybe if they went around saying "we're the best band in the world", people would also start saying/thinking it.

  • best band ever

  • Amazing song. Amazing band. I am hooked on these guys. Love all their music. Im so glad they got back together.

  • Conceived in a chrome dream I was the crease in the shirt that this world wears.

Best band ever, changed my life!!!

  • true mate ... i no longer hav vinly whent with the rent...haha so you tube is my records...the mind in witch i see ...haha

  • the verve rad aminzin video alov it makes me young again.... spining around of my face ....think the verve had a sexual drive in them eg becomin a man.....then ur fuked haha.. thank the verve x

  • blue! i wish i could find a girl that i had a question everytime i held her....if u r out there i am in ny!

  • I feel like atm too mannn

  • Hi, I am blue, and I am in NY. You can't handle the questions every time, trust me it gets boring faster than you think.

  • 'THE VERVE' are FUCKING OUT THERE! N O T H I N G comes close ...saw them at Glastonbury this year and fucking WEPT with joy! ...make them happen 4 u

  • Choice ...

  • I hope I can hear this in concert someday.

  • cascading pure verve..

  • Wow, Richard looks really strung out in this video.

  • this songs top, first hints of ashcroft arrogance coming up in the visuals here though.i wish theyd stayed with this style-they have no balls now-im sorry but love is noise is cack.not much music does have balls-electronica does though.these early verve tunes remind me of being 15-16 walkin round manc in winters nights.

  • perfekt analysis - nothing to add... but: this song also made me walk in the snow a long time ago

  • best Verve video IMO

  • Perfect music for all those barren Northern wastelands. Used walk around Stoke with these in my head.

  • Drugs ????

    Kapi Rock!

  • Richard's hot!!! He's briliant!!!! The VERVE forever!!! Their songs are crazy,PERFECT!!!

  • Great tune, remember seeing them at Wigan pier about 92, bloody awesome, full of energy and anger!!!Not a huge fan of there latter work, but that first album is terrific!!!

  • A brilliant song to go with brilliant video to mark a brilliant period of time and brilliant individuals - everything which we are lacking today in the plastic NME music factories .

  • glorious

  • Classic! This early stuff still gives me goosebumps.

  • This is one of my top 5 albums of all time. Absolute perfection! Actually, Ashcroft was on ecstasy during the entire recording process of A Storm in Heaven. "Blue" is a specific kind of ecstasy...usually having a Mercedes or Mitsubishi logo imprinted on the pill.

  • alabaster what you say is so true...2 thumbs up for you.......Shatzie xoxoxoxoxoxo the Verve

  • classic early Verve track from their best album IMO.

  • You're right! But they should have put She's a superstar on it!!! Best ever Verve song (the full 9 minute version I mean)!

  • i only have the regular version of shes a superstar, you think you can send me the mp3 of the one you have please?

  • if you send me a message with your email address i'll send you it via an attachment.

  • I LOVE the Verve, but I have to say watching Ashcroft evolve from confused and drugged out to strong and beautiful is amazing. You watch him now and he is like a force of nature. This video just makes me sad. He has learned SO much and I think people miss how much wisdom he has and how much he can teach from his own evolution. That is what is so powerful and inspiring about Richard Ashcroft.

  • I never thought about it that way. Good point.

  • Every band has taken material from another band, take the Beatles they ripped off some of the Hollies stuff are they fucktards?

  • Oasis has ripped off soo many bands though

and been sued over it and ripped on over it alot more than most other bands of their popularity

  • yeah but the music is AMAZING!!! if i could go back in time i would go back 2 the 90s just 2 see oasis and verve ect

  • What are you talking about, when did the Beatles rip off the Hollies? Probably the other way around if anything

  • Ecstasy no,valium yes in the song Ashcroft said hes had enough of party pills and he wants to shudder for a while.Fuck me any of you done drugs before?

  • best song ever!

  • wish they were like VERVE again, not The Verve

  • one of best videoclips ever!!

  • i take anything i said before about anyone, richard was the eviliest of them all

  • Look at his face.

    Downers.. Yes!

Viagra is also bleu. Does he need this?

    Still, great song, up tempo.

  • doesn't he look like Christiane Amampour form CNN?

  • LoL

    yes a little bit.

    haha

  • To all VERVE fans -

What is this song about? WHo or what is Blue? Ive been listening to this song for 10 years and cant tell still. I love the riff at the chorus. What a band.

  • I always thought it was about downers. Ashfcroft championing valium and how it irons out his probs eg."Conceived in a chrome dream I was a crease

In the shirt that this world wears

Till I met Blue". The chorus makes it pretty obvious.

  • it's about ecstasy - blue pill

  • It is a song about...pills

  • Blue ones :)

think I know which exactly they mean

  • Ramonzuton...where have gone?...

  • Brilliant arrangement. Can't get enough of this song.

  • Great album to trip with.

  • This song, Verve's music, RA's solo music, is much, much more addictive than drugs IMO. Verve and RA's solo talent is mindblowing, special and unique. Richard's voice is rich, velvety and sexy. He's very sexy indeed!!! He's also extremely intelligent !!! :D

  • I do not think so, i have some taste. Verve & RA's solo music come as one and is the all round best. Oasis are second best, although they are very slapable looking, indeed. I advise you go and get your hearing checked out :D.

  • good one mate! i like oasis as much as the verve..but in case im left out in an island and i were to choose between one cd to take with me, id choose oasis.....sorry richard

  • ditto, oasis all day...everyday...for life.

    *disclaimer:

the verve are amongst the greatest things to of ever come out've britain, fact.

  • even if i was to try REALLY hard not to i'd still think you're not a real music fan for disliking a blatantly amazing band because you don't like the people who make said music.

  • Wow, awesome video. I've always loved this song. This puts a whole new spin on it.

  • BLUE VERVE is a name of the GHB (rape drug)

  • Best band to come out of England in decades

  • Agreed Scouser

  • Labatt ....

  • pretty good.. he´s hot ;)

  • love it...really fits my life right now.

    except for the drug references

  • For those wondering what type of drug the lyrics are about, look at the clip at 2:06 or 2:07, if you read Richard Ashcroft's lips he is saying "don't do acid" and then taps his head, indicating that it screws up your mind, which the song lyrics say as well.

  • To me, the lyrics seem to be about being addicted to anything that is detrimental to your mind, but you still can't get enough. Most people I know have/had a crutch they knew was destructive, but they continued because it made them feel more alive...so the specific drug choice to me has no relevancy. The ambiguity of the lyrics even infers that an individual could be the "addiction". The bottom line is that this song is addictive in its brilliance! Viva Le Verve!

  • well...or smack...

  • Im retarded, its about acid or pills blatantly.

oh blue ive got a question every time i swallow you its true...

  • im convinced this song is about smoking crack and the vid makes me think that more...

but i dont give a fuck because this tune is an anthem!

  • The Verve=the best band ever!!!

  • Wow, R'kids under the influence... they look rough. This video really shows to me, what life can be like when you are on drugs, and how they can mess with your head and make you feel like shit. Keep the strength lads, you keep me going. 5 stars!

  • so way more superior than the doors.

    actually, no comparison.

  • does anyone else see a young Mick Jagger in this guy?

  • MICK WANTS TO BE HIM!

  • In my opinion, the new doors, an english version though. incredible band.

  • This is my favourite Verve song.

  • this and bittersweet symphony, man both simply magnificant songs!

  • words cant express how fucking utterly brilliant this song is

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhh their soooo young in this vid, wish i could turn back time to this era!!!the verve are the greatest!!

  • mit abstand die beste band der 90er

  • And what WAS Aschroft on? Looks rather flaked on the stairs....HA!! Wills

  • Ashcroft in his prime...Wills

  • Great tune.

What's their new stuff sounding like? I heard a bit of a demo and it sounded hopeful, not Urban Hymns in the slightest, you could hear McCabe for starters. Fingers crossed they can do that rarest of things and do a successful comeback, without becoming a parody of their former selves.

  • I see nothing vacant about this. The lyrics are tight, the playing is surreal but purposeful.....come on, who cannot love this? Not typical spaced out debris. My favorite Verve song. I envy the NY ticket buyer!

  • i just bought my ticket to see them in NYC

  • a storm in heaven is my favorite album by this band. shoegaze done right.

  • pretty vacant

  • pretty awesome!

  • BEST VERVE SONG, this gets in ur head and stays, got in mine 12 years ago and is still init?????

  • this song is like a bullet in your head... great!

  • I love this song. Richard has got charisma and perfect voice. The Verve have got very avesome sound!

  • the verve have always been britpop

    from 1993 to 1998

    1. storm in heaven -

best album when shoegaze was dying down slow

    and britpop was born

  • you lot suck.Verve rule oh yes!!1

  • the verve's later stuff does not 'suck'

ashcroft is a great song writer and nothing that comes out of his mouth could be commercial

  • Why does the Verve's later stuff suck sooo much...this is awesome cool phycadelic space rock...not awful commercial late 90's pop rock

  • rockstafar aint got a clue, knobhead

  • It doesn't suck, maybe you're just going at it in the wrong direction, if you want uncommercial stuff going and look for a song by "Public Image Ltd". Then you'll truly understand what uncommercial means, this early stuff doesn't even touch it, but it's still great, just like they're later work.

  • later pil is pretty commericial sounding, unlike their more minimalistic early stuff

  • I was referring to Metal Box-era, Joy Division's "Closer" would be another example of extremely uncommercial music. The Manics "The Holy Bible" has also been contended as being very inaccessible, which I'm not so sure, the lyrics are very grim, but the music is pretty accessible.

  • closer one of my all time fave albums prob not most uncommercial things ever i mean i could never imigine an oasis fan liking godpseed you black emperors f#a#(infinity)

  • it's common for british bands to change musical directions after some point. usually a lot more ecletic in sound than american counter parts. well, unless your oasis, i guess.

  • richard is so blatently high

  • My favourite Verve song & off what I think is their best album. Brilliant. Thanks

  • what a band! saw them at the roundhouse on 9th nov, nick said it was the best gig theyv ever done, just glad i was ther 2 witness it!!! much love!

  • drugs only ruin worthless trash.

  • You're saying drugs will only ruin rascists, homophobes, warmongers, thieves & the like. Absolute rubbish! Drugs can, but don't necessarily, ruin anyone who takes them to excess. Alcohol & Tobacco being prime examples.

  • drugs make u skint , kill u , keep criminals rich , wrek families , adrenalin sports beat any drugs . try bungy ,

powerboats , parachuting , extream offroading,

or the army . done all still love music and not been conned by the drug thing + i cant wait 4 my next adrenalin buzz. good music dont need drug crap

  • drugs=better music

a lesson for all you youngsters out there!

  • my favorite video they, are sooooo young here wow. Richard is the sexiest man alive

  • powerfull song

  • I love this song.

"Conceived in a chrome dream I was a crease in the shirt that this world wears."

    Such interesting lyrics.

  • of course he was on drugs!

  • Love Richard's vocals

  • 1 of my fav Verve songs. Weird Vid tho! :-/

  • i don't think so

    it is just the choreography

    great great song ¡¡¡
