  • i can only do or control my vibrato with low notes but when i sing high notes, i can't control and i can't even do it anymore. pls help me. thanks :]

  • you`re great!!!! thank u!!!!!!! really:X

  • Your fun and awesome teacher! Hope i can learn to vibrato..

  • im getting better and better thanks to you!! and i started out with no vibrato

  • i can vibrato a lil faster than @3:45. I cant grasp how to do a rolling vibrato. should i just keep pushing myself to try and vibrato faster?

  • dude......... iv never knew how to do this and have been lookin on youtube for ages on how to, youve compleately explained it and couldnt of explained any better, your a ledgend... thanks

  • @knappstep SUPER thanks!!!!!!!!! That means heaps when ppl take time to say things like this!

  • So its just singing two notes...a note and a flat note... is there any movements in the vocal cords?? thx!

  • I'M SO GLAD THAT I FOUND YOU!

  • 3:08 - Excercise

  • OMG after more than 10 years working on it! it just took me 2 hours with your advice to develop it!!! Thank You!!!!

  • the beginning is hilarious

  • Ive FINALLY GOT IT BACK! It was slightly still there. I'd just needed to bring it out, NATURALLY. even tho for the past 10 yrs or more, i've learn to do it differently with many ways. im still rusty. Gotta give it to the teacherS. and to the fundamentals that we, the students, gotta keep practicing. I've practice it everytime when I'm driving whiling listening to practical vocal music. My favorite, Silent night. Thank you again for reminding me how B E A UUUTIFULLY it feels and sounds like.

  • If you do Handel's Messiah from the Baroque period, you will find lots of staccato the vibrato as well as in the runs!

  • Wavering between 2 notes is also referred to as a trill.

  • LMAO!!!!! i knew it!!! i had it naturally when i took classes on singing bak in middle school. but that was a long time ago. it felt soo right having such voice. maybe like the feeling of when u know ur in love with someone. and u just know wat to say to her. too bad id lost it i lost it. cuz people around me whom wanted to shine, told me i was doing it all wrong. wat can i say, i was the only asian student. oh well, starting bak to square one. the basics. Arigato gozaimasu Dillard Sensei.

  • are we suppose to use our throat to switch the 2 half notes in order to create the vibrato? or is it suppose to come from our diaphram? ._.

  • so bloody vibrato literaly is just two different notes?my God.......you dont need to shake your jaw,or belly....its just two notes...damn.

  • When you sing vibrato, is there any visible vibration of the throat when you look in the mirror? I want to know if thats okay or its an incorrect technique as well ...

  • I sincerely think you're one of the most talented people I have ever heard.

  • Awwwwwwwwwww u r shooooooooo shweeeeeeeeeeeet Erik <3

  • haha i laughed so hard at th beggining

  • You're the best man!!

  • This really does help thanks my voice when I sing sounds alot better

  • I've been playing trombone for a few years, and vibrato is one of the last things that you learn to do--you only do it after developing a good tone, a good sense of rhythm, good flexibility with your embouchure, and most importantly, good intonation. It's interesting that singers start learning vibrato earlier. I think that stylistically, I'm going to approach vibrato for singing the same way that I do on trombone: only use it on long notes, and start slow and speed up as the note gets softer.

  • I really like the way you teach bro... Keep on singing and sharing your skill..!

  • yo the gut! HILL AIR EEYUS!

  • great vid! just a quick one! when we practise vibrator, does the first halfnote goes up first or go down first? thx

  • As a member of the church choir, I must say, I DESPISE the shaking jaw. It drives me insane! It looks ridiculous & doesn't do anything for you. hahaha

  • Hey Erik! I was wondering...Do you know of the Japanese singer named Minami Saori? If so, what do you think of her vibrato?

It seems to me that her vibrato is always strong, powerful, fast, and consistent, no matter what performance I hear. Iwasaki Hiromi's vibrato is equally amazing!

  • ashausahshuausaushuahushahusuhauhshuahusauhsuha

  • Again Eric, you are amazing!

  • can someone be singing from their breath,? cause my friends tell me when i sing. its soft and it sounds like im jsut breathing :S

  • LMFAO the beginning is jokes

  • where's the 3rd lesson?

  • great vid!

  • I have quite a hard time with my vibrato and because i sing opera it is kind of getting on my nerves already... It just doesn't sound right without it :( By the way, i don't do it as exagerately as you in the beggining but i feel a slight movement/vibration in my diafragm. Is that bad?

  • very interesting&well put!!!,,im a rock singer&have a natural vibrato, yet ive only just started learning about it,,by watching this i now understand the speed aspect of it& it should make me that bit better as a singer thanks bruv,,all the best ROCKTOR JONES!!!,,ps..sometimes i cant do vibrato on certain high notes but i guess the more u practice the better u get,,so im gonna practice the two note thing as u said!!!

  • I LOVE you!! I learned something from you THANK YOU Erik. :)

  • I love how this starts :D:D:D this is great love your vids

  • heyy!

is your adams apple suppose to shake?

  • funny dude, but u preaching right bro.

  • what i heard about vibrato is that some people has natural vibrato and some does not, if you dont have a natural vibrato and you keep trying practice vibrato, it'll actually hurt your voice. also vibrato are developed as you age as opposing to practicing it. Is that true?

  • @Hasasou Hey there. Great question. Learning to achieve vibrato will not hurt your voice. As long as you are doing correctly and not over-exerting and most importantly, working with a trainer, then you will see that it will begin to get easier to the point of being effortless! =)

  • @lloyd614 and for you your intro was hilarious, LMBO!!!

  • @Hasasou Hey, we all have a natural vibrato. Some may be slow, fast or medium fast but we all have it

  • @Hasasou i believe that if you practice, practice, practice! you can get

    vibrato. (:

  • lol, thx 4 ur vidss!! the start was really funny!!!!

  • I can't believe there are 5 dislikes :l

I mean, this video is great, HE IS great,

This helped a lot, now I'm a better singer :)

    Thanks man!

  • Hey dude, sorry to bother you, but I'd like to ask you to watch some of my vocal covers and some odf the songs I've written myself, and to tell me what you think an how i could improve on my performance. As for your videos, I really do enjoy them, they help a ton.

    Thanks :)

  • @LonelyWinterCold Hey there! No bother at all. Do me a favor. Send the link of the song you want me to check out to my email: thevocalclinic@gmail.com

    More than happy to help,

    ~E~

  • Hello eric im having trouble every time i sing i sound like im talking can u plz help

  • @avatar9915 yeah me to.....D:

  • What advice would you give someone to remedy a fluttery vibrato or one that's too fast?

  • Sup Erik,

What instrument can I practice with? I don't have a keyboard. I have a Guitar and a Violin will they do? I have a Metronome, that any good? I want to get started on my Vibrato ASAP no need in waisting time. btw. kool lesson

    Freddy A.

  • @aanglero Hey there! Oh yes...a guitar or violin would be great to practice. Honestly, i would go with either one of these instruments more because the inflections and dynamics can be mimicked and felt more honestly when you couple them with singing. A piano, believe it or not, can sometimes be two technical. Great question!

  • hey god bless im a singer of God and i thank god that he gave me the talent but i wanted to ask you do you have any tips on gettin ready to recorded ur voice my director says i need help with entonation and vibratal which ive been following from this video and it has help

  • im reallly learni g alot from your vid sir..i mean really,,,,,maraming salamat po!!!!! that thanks a lot in filipino...hehe!!!

  • Eric Arceneaux is really good as well on youtube as well.

  • okay that is REALLY hard for me lol!!!

  • I got a serious serious question. I know when doing Vibrato you shouldn't move your jaw or stomach, and the stomach thing I'm still trying to kick the habit. But, when your not using your stomach, is it bad to feel this vibrating feeling in your throat or chest. I don't know if I'm doing it incorrectly since I feel this weird vibrating in my throat when practicing what you said. Again, I'm trying to kick the habit, so I don't know if this feeling is apart of the old thing I used to do.

  • thank you for that video! it really cleared up my questions about singing with vibrato. thank you so much for all the time that you've put into these vids. love that beginning part hahah

  • This dude soooo damn funny!!!

  • is there any voice lesson 3?

  • Hey there......thought that vibrato in in the end of the phrase? too much would make it like opera... lol...

  • You are really cool mate!

  • thanks i've learned now the right way of vibrato

  • LOL!!!!!

  • The beginning of this video is hilarious. :)

  • Erik, this is enlightening since I didn't think this singing technique could be taught. I sing and can do it but it seemed to have just naturally occurred when I was about 12 years old. I cannot explain how I do it. I just do it. Is there a natural vibrato some people are born with and an acquired one? or are both the same? I am confused. Help a bro out here...! Thanks

  • oh my god u r amazinggggggggggggggg!the best vocal coach on youtube!!! congratulation and thank you for posted this!kisses from rom.

  • NICE

  • what the hell are you doing in Japan bruh?

  • @NCWC916 Hey there...I'm actually back in America now...lol!

  • @lloyd614 its a very good experience to go other countrys, to learn about the ways they teach voice singing. btw good job with the videos xD they help a lot.

  • negro marica eres el mejor maestro de tecnica vocal que he tenido

    muchas gracias

  • does the two note method help speed up your vibrato

  • @pune37tAnG Hey there....yes, it definitely can. You've just got to keep it up and treat it the same as riding a bicycle. Once you master it, you can control the speed of it and then create your own style.

  • @lloyd614 and exactly how long wud dat take..??hehe

  • AWEZOME!!!!!!!!! :P thanks..

  • I love your vids and techniques and use your vids always to warmup my voice and getting better with staying in tune :P

I am not a great singer but because of your vids i am learing to sing better.

Finaly someone who isnt doing as if singing is only for the popstars and is giving us homesingers a change to get better without going to expencive voicecourses with teachers who cant teach and learn you the wrong things

Keep on going i am loving it :D

  • your video has really helped me out with my vocals, thanks for your posting and your a funny dude too!

  • that was hilarious!

  • You are a great teacher.

  • u should have added vibrato using your finger to hit your throat in the beginning..lol

  • @sweetnluvly07 Now THAT Would have been hilarious! I might have to redo this video...LOL!!!

  • Great advise...I'm learning so much about the technical aspects of voice...I didn't realize vibrato was so deliberate. I'd always thought it was something you either had or didn't. I've played around mimicking vocal styles in order to learn how to sing. How I wish I had started vocal lessons long ago. Thank you for making this information available. It's taking some of the mystery out of singing...but thankfully not the magic (which honestly, I think was my biggest fear). - Amanda Cottreau

  • Pardon -1 :)))

  • Tre transpose butten is ON . -2 :)))))

  • Folks -

ED knows what he is doing. Not that pedigree means anything or to laud myself, but I have undergad and masters degrees from major conservatories in US and Europe, and I know a musician and or teacher who has craft AND can teach. ED is for real. My background is in guitar, but I am working on fronting a new project, and am always looking for tips to improve my voice. I learned a lot from Erik D.

Full disclosure, there is no disclosure. I have no affiliations w/ ED. Just mad props!!

  • i love you a lot

i feel the true music with your tutor

man i have a suggestion or question:

the time duration between two half notes must be equal,is it ?

otherwise it will not sound nice

  • @cheekusri143 Hello! Thank you so much for your feedback. Yes, it is better to keep the rhythms even no matter what speed you use. This helps everything to sound the same and consistent and polished.

  • @lloyd614 ok thanks

    it helped me

  • love you you make me enjoy the lessons.....and i would love to sing much better cause i notic e ive been doing to many wrong things,,,havent pratice in long time..and feel like my throat itches kind of when i sing can't explain it well...but need to work on it

  • why when you sing with the mic you feel you are loosing your voice..in the past i use to sing am to night all day but know i can't

and you were the best vocal coach out here in youtube(:

  • I agree with dru2smooth. Dude, YOU are the best vocal coach in youtube. You Rock!

  • thank you thank you!!

  • i think vibrato makes yur voice more free and takes off the pressure from yur vocals ... yuh dnt need to put pressure at all wen yuh sing .. thats wat im learning from a lot of these videos i've been watching lately ..

  • your soo awesome

  • You are very good. this is only my 2nd lesson and I feel like I'm getting somewhere. Wow! There might be hope for me. lol

  • Hey there you guys! =) Yes, the acquiring of vibrato is different from person to person; almost the same as there's no way to tell when some grasps the way to balance themselves on a bicycle, you know? So don't lose heart. I've got other vibrato videos that might help to bring more clarity to it. Check them out and hit me up with your feedback.

Practice consistently, but be safe on your vocal folds! =)

    Coach and Friend,

    ~E~

  • you are truly an expert!

  • Hey there I appreciate that!!

  • you are truly appreciated!!

    wonderful teacher!!!

  • how long do you have to practice? no matter what i do i cant do this properly ! :(

  • Haha, I used to shake my head when I wanted to use vibrato and it sounded terrible! I've always wanted to do it like Thom Yorke in "Nude" but never knew how. Now I know. You seem like a pretty good teacher, I will definitely see your other videos!

  • no joke bt its working for me. -__- i am speechless.

  • Your video is great! I have a question though--I THINK I can do vibrato but I'm not sure. I can't hear whether or not I'm singing tow notes or pulsing one. When I try to use the two note method, it seems like I'm doing something completely different to get my vibrato. Like I'm pushing air to make the sound and it doesn't come effortlessly--but not with my stomache or head or neck. WIth my lungs I think. I'm hoping you can help. Am I doing it incorrectly?

  • wow. i surfed the net for hours and hours . spent hour and hours trying to figure out how exactly vibrato can be done. and ur vid is only a few minutes but i learnt sooo much. THANKKKSS!!

  • lol you're funny at the beginning :)

  • llyod! pls answer this question - DO YOU BREATHE THRU THE NOSE OR MOUTH in breathing excersises???

  • I always encourage breathing through the nose, as this keeps your voice moist.

  • i thinks its nice 4 u to take time n help other lyk mi self....i jus wanna say thanks

  • Hey bro I really appreciate this because I am really trying to starting singing.. I can sing a little, but please keep posting these videos.. it's helping me alot bro!!

  • haha love the beginning funny XD

  • Gawdd, I love your accent!

    Amazing teacher, thankyou!

  • Lol!!! Thank you and thank you!! =)

  • how do i get to last my vibrato???? i mean i cant hold my vibrato to long, it kindda stresses me out!!

  • Hey there,

It's all about breath support. Maintaining good breath support will promote a smoother vibrato style and a longer lasting note.

    ~E~

  • Great video, I will try this. Not sure if I'm beyond help : (

  • this video kinda made me happy X) thanks for showing ur lessons. and i really love your voice

  • Thanks so much for saying that...I'm glad you enjoyed the video! =)

    ~E~

  • HELL NAW!!!!!!!!!!

  • so so f funyyy!!!!

  • omg u help so much

i think i might have the confidence

to go infront of ppl now with this :)

  • Is vibrato a purely innate talent?

  • hey so i have a question. actually 2 :p

is there another way of getting a steady vibrato besides using the 2 tone method u have so artfully described in this and the other video?

likewise, when your turn on/off vibrato using this method, does it come naturally or do u have to like somewhat remember its a pulsation between two tones?

    thankss!!

  • Hey guys, do you know why I can't sing with vibrato above C5 only without vibrato??

  • i seriously looove uuuuuuuuu(L),, in the manly way haha, but seriously u are aawesom

  • LOL!!! I appreciate that, glad the videos helping!

    ~E~

  • thank you man you made my future

  • i thought vibrato comes naturally as ur skill becomes more seasoned.

  • Hey,

Thanks for watching. You're right, that is "one" of the ways that vibrato can be achieved (with time and experience), but in some cases, it's still never developed as in the case with alot of Eastern singing people. When we find problems like these, we have to use other methods to help them achieve what most people can do naturally.

Good observation, tho! Thanks for your feedback! =)

    ~E~

  • *gr* wish i could sing like u!

  • Can you add a video concerning people who have problems to sing without or with less vibrato (like me p.e.).

Every time I'm using my head voice (p.e. singing the final of the phantom of the opera) I have to use more (I don't know how to describe it - usually I speak german) midriff ???(don't know if that's the correkt word - hope u know what i mean) to not harm my voice (avoid screaming). A vibrato is always there, but with the volume the vibrato intensifies and I can't sing it without.

  • hahah i'm still laughing at the begining.thanks for these vids, they are most helpful.

  • THIS IS INCREDIBLY HELPFULL THANKS!!
