Yep the belt needs to be loosend and your valves should stop ticking once you have warmed up the engine but if not do the adjustment with a torque rench and feeler gauge with proper settings and torque pattern.
The hovercraft noise is from a timing belt or balancer belt that's too tight. If you loosen and re-tighten the 14mm bolt on the lower timing cover it will help. (just don't try to start the car with the bolt loose.)
i got the same whining noise in mine and wont go away my mechanic says that is the tensors that are new and need to loosen up and by the time it will go away but i dont see that coming any soon.. Any suggestion i can do to make that sound go away???
I had similar problems. Your serpentine belts are way to tight!! They are putting stain on the pulley bearings. My car has an autotensioner on the Timing Belt so I knew it wasn't the timing belt. I just loosened by Alternator belt and the problem went away.
I took off the upper & lower covers and adjusted the tension on the balance belt. Fixed the problem. Much smoother & quieter now. You should be able to twist the timing belt to almost 90* at its longest strech, and the balance belt should be noticably looser
i got the same problem with my accord, one of the belts is over tightened illd say, mine is a lot worse than yours. what year is the car? it makes a nice reving noise
Its a 2001 ex 4cyl standard. There is a valve noise in this video, and I adjusted the valve clearance so that went away, but the humming noise is still there from the timing or balance belt. Do you know how much twist you should be able to get on a balance belt or timing belt? I'd like to know if they're in the ballpark
How do you adjust ignition timing on these accord since u can't turn the distributor?

If timing belt is noisy, You must replace it. The shape of teeth is wrong and its causing the noise. Try with other belt.

Hi!
How did you adjusted the tension on the balance belt, did you used the "right" procedure or did you pushed the tensioner by hand?
pdsalgueiro 2 years ago
But this is what you do,
1. TDC the motor
2. loosen up the adjusting nut for the timing belt 2/3 of a turn and retighten it.
3. Take the top timing cover off.
4. Turn the cam gear three teeth counterclockwist.
5. Then loosen the adjusting nut and retighten and you're done!!
