Yep. Completely agree. This movie was luscious to look at, but overall, smoke and mirrors. I didn't really get to KNOW or CARE about the characters. There were a couple good moments. I liked when Daisy (around the age of 22) was showing off, and didn't ask him a thing about BB (thought that was an insightful bit about being young). And I liked the last scene with him as a baby. Other than that, pretty to look at, but the actors didn't do enough to redeem a mediocre screenplay. :(

Well, let's see, it's based on a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald. So, let's stop jumping on the writing of the film, you can dislike it all you like, but ultimately it was the writers, producers, and Fincher's decision to focus on the juxtaposition of Benjamin and Daisy's aging over the course of their lives, romantically. And don't you think that that juxtaposition does examine the benefits and detriments of aging both philosophically, emotionally, and physically?
