Even the lockup clutch was an MTC custom at that point.....we were still getting it set up. Our little normally aspirated HD did put more than a couple of turbo busas on the trailer. Granted there are much faster bikes out there, and they're getting faster every day, it seems, but in those cases, HD took home the trophies.
I'm the one who was riding the bike. I'll try to answer/address some questions. The MPH on that run was 154.....60' was 1.42......electric over air shifter (button on bars)....1550cc normally aspirated, V&H head and cams....chain was a 530QR.
Those that would critique the performance, please keep in mind that the VRod has only been out for a few years, after being a COMPLETELY new design direction for Harley Davidson...the parts we were using were all pretty much "one off" custom units....
i hate jap bikes.. harleys are better..no jap bikes are because they dont oil leak... oh yea well harleys have good sound and looks and its a tradition.. oh yea well my jap bike has better gas miles.. oh yea well my harley has a good resale value...WHO THE FUCK CARES..RIDE WHAT YOU RIDE AND SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THE OTHER GUYS BIKE. FUCKIN PETTY AS MUTHERFUCKERS
Allot of people give Harley shit for their "heritage" design, but I must admit that when you can pull 9s in a 1/4 mile with a V-twin, you deserve some respect.
OMG!! People that say crotch rockets beat cruisers is like comparing a Caddy to a Ferrari! NO FUCKING SHIT SHERLOCK!! Harleys are meant for cruising. They are meant for style, sound, and comfort. They have big engines mainly for show and to haul the weight. (Not dissing, just informing.) Gixxers and other race bikes, are for PERFORMANCE only. They might have a few key styling features, but in essence, they're like Civics. You can only do so much to the same exact look.
It's not that simple. Actually, the HD VR1000 racing engine is the base for the V-rod "Revolution Engine". The VR was a collaborative effort between Roush and Cosworth and Harley Davidson. Then Harley worked with Porsche in order to make the engine more street-able for the V-rod. You can read that on the Internet. You can "Google" anything and get "real" information. I also read that Harley and Porsche have worked together before that... but I'll let you look it up yourself.
Care to share any specs on the motor? Im sure cam specs etc are proprietary. Just curious how your cases are holding up thats all. Nice job tho, on a better track im sure 8's are easily obtainable, good job!!!!
Dude, this is one of the most inspirational videos I've seen in a long time. So many people want to talk some crap about harleys, but this video proves that a harley can outrun those piss ant sport bikes. You ROCK!
Very inspirational indeed, with the help of porche, harley has brought out an engine that is not completly dated. And any decent "piss ant sport bike" would hold its own against this machine. V-rod is fine on the drag strip but as far as handling goes you can't beat a sportbike. So all around, those "piss ant sport bikes" are far superior machines. I'm not a harley hater. Harleys have pretty much been family tradition for me but I like having a better product for the money.
well maybe it's because harley's werne't built for that genius. i mean you have people that fix theirs up like this guy, but harleys are built for cruising. even the v-rod. of course they aren't going to beat a bike that was specifically built for performance in the category performance.
thanks KJ wwe do both. the harley has been so much fun because no one had gone that fast yet, every change we made was the first time it had been done. we used our Prostreet experience in the chassis and some awesome motor builders experience in the motor. has been a blast
Nice run - I've got an '06 VRSCD (Night Rod). Ran it once down the track - showroom stock pulled 11.89 @ 115 so I know you've definitely got some investment in that machine to run that quick. My regular drag bike is a ZX-14; stretched, lowered, PCIII, and a pipe my best is a 9.39 @ 146. Not many V-Rods outrun that so my helmet's off to you :-) What kind of 60', 1/8th, and trap speeds did you turn on that pass?
what heads springs and cams are you using you may emal me that info. here is why. look at bobby mackay vrod burn out. if i get the right combination i gain 5000 . help me dude
Ever run a bike across a river on a 20' 2x12"? I have. Have you ever seen a State Cop try it with his Crusier? There is a big splush! and he goes now where, while you set on a hill and watch and laugh. I have seen 3 State Cops make the same mistake!
I don't know what it is, but when I set on a bike, my brain goes to mush! Think, is no longer functional. Speed, the more the better. It is a pure rush! It is the exceitement - but I think you already know what I am talking about. And it doesn't seem to matter if I drive 100 miles, it is still wide open and wanting more. Anyone who knows the area and gets pulled over by the cops, deserves the stinkin ticket! I have never pulled over, out ran every time!
I also know what it is like to wipe out at over 100 mph! Well, I actually only remember afterwards. Yes, I had a helmet on. The Helmet made a dent in the clay ground and I was knocked out cold! Age 15. Or the GoKart headon into a tree at age 11, 45mph to dead stop! there is a story behind that one. It was all about anger and not thinking
B4 I could drive (16), I had a lot of education - Wipe-Outs teach, they show you how dumb you were for trying it. The 100+ mph wipe out was just to see how fast I could go in our driveway (asphalt). The grass and hill at the end was the real problem!!! I had done it at 50 without a problem - adding that extra 50mph was the bad part.
One morning I got some very fast education! Bikes do not stop in wet Alfalfa fields. But I can tell you what will! A Fence and a Hawthorn tree. Try going from 55+mph to dead stop and land in the top of a hawthorn tree. Bent the forks to boot!
I never drag raced a bike - but love to watch! Most of riding was back country through the woods and trail riding. I did however find out at an early age (14) what Speed Wobble is at about 80mpg on a 305 Honda Scrambler. WOW, that is something I will not forget! I just rode it out through a hay field.
he he he noooo thanks!!! Ill take a stretched prostreet bike anyday. Those fast 4 wheelers scare the S**T out of me!!! too much side to side action! he he he
305cc Honda Scrambler - 1968. Trust me, there are only two wheels. And that back one when it pops at 85 mph sucks! Very squirrely! Gravel road ate the tire and tube and spoke liner. Also made a nice chrome rim look like shit! the fastest I have been on a bike no helm was 147mph, then thought afterwards, that was sure dumb!~
converted to chain. 1550 cc stroker. 230 hp but we know of one that made 250 hp with the belt drive. the tranny is a back cut by Fast by Gast. has a lock up clutch so we can dump it off the line and it kinda slips off the launch. most of the prostreet guys use this. keeps it from rat trapping over.
Sweet! I wonder if they can do this on a car? you could really do a number on the competition!
I was watching your feet, and I never seen you hit the shifter and yet it shifted and couldn't figure out how. I replayed the video about 5 times. I still do it just cause I think it is so cool! Thanks for your reply. By the way, that Harley does kick some ass!
they make an electric version that shifts up and down and no air tank to refill. On my street bike I have an oboard compressor that keeps my swingarm full of air ( I use it for an air tank)
Does it ever miss a gear? or is it a dead on deal, punch and it is there. I saw at Mc Bride Speedway (now called something else) here in Michigan a Kawasaki Mach 3 shift like that. On his 3rd run the tranny went all over the track!
dead on deal....sometimes if the ignition kill isnt adjusted right it will miss, but an easy fix. sounds like the guy needed a tranny. I have a suzuki making 400 hp and havent shellrd the tranny with the shifter.

@LordSamuelJ - Why? A highly modified bike pulling 9's is nothing special today. And yes, a bike with an airshifter IS "highly modified".

no , it's not an automatic, it's an air shift set up. he just pushes a button on the bars and an air cylinder shifts the bike.

you lest the clutch out like any other bike, then you use the air shifter without the clutch to upshift.
