After watching this whole video I have two questions - 1. Are all the cars in the UK stick shift? 2. Why did she keep putting on the parking brake every time she stopped? We don't do that in America.

@rkr1631 All cars you will learn in are manual with a gear stick between the seat infront of the handbreak, even on an automatic test the gear stick is in the same place. Once you have passed your test you dont have to put the parking break on but you must do it on your test whenever you stop at lights or if the car is stationary for any period of time. They want to see the car secure whenever its stopped on your test. Riding the clutch is a no no on your test.

@rkr1631 i didn't need to use the parking break either unless i was pulled up and stationary, but not at turnings, behind traffic or red lights (though i could if i wanted to, i just see it as more faffing around, perhaps it is a regional thing?). also not all cars are manual (stick shift) but most are. if you pass in an automatic you can only drive automatics. if you pass in a manual you can still drive automatics. i own an automatic but passed a few days ago in a manual.

So many people think the test is going to be harder than it really is, just drive carefully and take things slow, it's easy. I passed with 3 minors, a couple of which were pretty well spotted by the examiner :P I was most worried about the eye sight check at the start, but even I could read the plates.

@elitedonk yo im learning aswell, but ive got the hang of the clutch just, the manoevers im working on , just make sure you get the bitting point with a little bit of gas and release it slowly and SMOOTHLY thats were i find i go wrong , and on hills its exactly the same just abit more gas and make sure your at thew bitting point itherwise you'll roll back ;) hope this helps

oh also, at the beginning of the test all we have to do is signal right and left and push on the breaks to make sure our lights are working properly. we don't get asked to lift the car hood or anything :P

because you guys drive on the left side of the road and we drive on the right. so when we make a left turn, we have to wait for a break in traffic whereas a right turn its just onto the road closest to us. totally opposite of how it is in the uk. haha :)

we have "all-way stops" which are just stop signs. so i stopped. then drove onto another road and did a parallel park. then i did a roadside stop on a downhill so i turned my steering wheel to the right and put the car in park + emergency break. then i drove back to the drive test centre, parked and that was it. we also have automatic transmissions so i didn't have to change gears or put the emergency break on at every stop. the test in this video is soo long lmao. also its weird to watch...

lol i'm from canada and i think our tests are a lot easier... i just took mine on july 4th and i passed easily. it was just 15 minutes. i drove on a road that was 80km/h. i don't know what that is in miles, but normal roads are 50/60km/h so it was faster... i turned left onto a side road and did a 3 point turn. went back on the main road, went through a few more stop lights, then turned left into a neighbourhood. we don't have roundabouts (well some, but they're very rare)...

Got my test in just over 2 weeks, I really hope I pass.. after watching this.. it does look really easy and not as tense as I thought it would. Parallel parking is my only downside, I'm okay with the rest.. so i hope my two maneuvers are reversing around a corner and turning around in the road.

In one lesson you couldn't have possibly tackled every area of driving you need to be tested on. It isn't even physically possible.

@the1musiclad it is possible. my dad is a mechanic, my uncle is a rally driver. maintenance is a piece of piss, i spend a ridiculous amount of time with vehicles. I also have experience on motorcycles as i've been riding them since I was 8. road awareness is common sense, I passed my theory with barely any faults, its really not that difficult. I've practiced manoeuvres on private land. Still not convinced?

What I'm saying is your instructor will want to make sure you are good in every aspect which is not actually possible in the time of one lesson. In one lesson you're saying your instructor

1) took you through several different types of roundabout,

2) took you on a dual carraigeway

3) went through car maintenance

5 hours is pushing it to clear all the things I mentioned. Observation of your general driving abiltiy requires observation over a sustained period of time. Your instructor won't send you into a test after seeing you drive for only 2-3 hours.

I had my test end of last year my overall drive felt good but he failed me on undue hesitation for giving way to 2 cars on different streches of road because he said I had right of way and giving way to a bus that was coming out of a side street I already drive an automatc been driving since 1999 but it's better to have the manual. Found out he is a new examinert under a year in the job. So I was well ticked off I made silly mistakes on my first test
