its amazing how many ppl just walk past with no care in the world and not caring that we risk our lives on every call not knowing if we are coming back alive....ive been in the service for almost 10 years but im only a Vol. firefighter in mifflin county,pa in a small town of Burnham, i do this bc i wanna help and protect my community and i do it for no more then a thank-you....i admire you guys in the FDNY you guys do amazing work....hope you all stay safe and thank-you for serving for city
@1983Valiko Hehe ... U camp out in your rigs brother .... ??? :) Also the first responding units on this call were on the street in LESS than 20 seconds ... That video is also up here ... These guys were the 2nd due companies ... :)
@FdNy8231 a firefighter friend of mine in paris france told me that. at night when a call comes in they have 3 minutes to get ready and jump on the rig.
@1983Valiko Very Bad? FDNY Still fights fire better then Ukraine, they don't stand outside with hoses and bicycle helmets like you, they go in and fight it the right way, responding in 43 sec and being a pussy isn't faster then a 2min 30sec response and actually fighting fire. Very Bad. (Sorry for my assholeness).
@Airlick123 Special to you I said: I didn't know that these guys were the 2nd due companies... And I didn't choose fire engine or fire clothing, I just doing my job. I did not want to disappoint you. But if we respound second or third, we are try to go as quickly as possible. Standards for the respoundion and we exit the alarm has not been canceled and even our colleagues simply need help. (Sorry for my English). Good luck to you...
@1983Valiko Plus do you guys have stupid civilians who have to be guarded from walking in front of fire trucks? Also, they cannot leave the house unless they know the doors will be shut. Years ago, someone ran in before the doors shut all the way and stole a fire truck and took it for a joy ride. Now they have to make sure the doors are shut and no one gets in.
I love how there is this BIG RED Fire Truck with lights on only maybe 10 feet from the sidewalk...WITH LIGHTS ON and people walking right in front of it like it not even there. Clueless!
You know I hope I don't jinx the guys who drive the trucks but these guys are simply the best. They maneuver these monster trucks into a tight fire house and they maneuver the trucks thru these tight blocks and a ton of traffic without getting into accidents.God Bless the FDNY.
@Bilbodr They had returned from another call and Engine 5 was Acting as theme .. since they hadn't returned to their quarters(E5) Engine 54 parked on the street ...
@FdNy8231 True but there are sadly stations (well sad for them sometimes) that get 1 or 2 calls a day i bet...somewhere in the distant edge of the boroughs haha
@Breezin36 they get in the truck outside the garage b/c theres no space in the garage for them to open doors and also to block vehicle and pedestrian traffic
@Zantozzzz there hard suction pipes its pretty much for drafting out of a lake or a pond or the river if you had to. Your not supposed to but where i volunteer if you had to cross a street with a supply line you put that hard suction in so cars can run it over
@iBreathSCBA13 beieve it or not, when a street is blocked by a hose, it is shut down. also,. vehicles running over HSL can damage them. ur dept needs to update they SOP's man
I love to watch New York's finest, but I am often amazed at how long they take to turn out. It was 2:40 into the video before Engine 5 turned out. Here in the UK, full-time fire crews are required to turn-out within 30 seconds of a 999 call being recieved at fire control, which is some going. I'm sorrry but 2:40 is not.
But you have to take many things into consideration. They need to check maps, Get gear on, Listen to the dispatch. Plus, it takes more planning to fight fires from the inside ;)
@playswithboobs Believe it or not it was Engine 54 ... I believe that Engine 5 Acting 54 had not been given their ticket home yet prior to the call coming in so they were dispatched .... Thanks for the comments ....

Right above Ladder 4 you can see the sign recovered from the old rig that was lost on 9/11.

what are those big black tubes the engine trucks have on their sides?
Zantozzzz 9 months ago
@Zantozzzz Sounds to me like you're talking about the hard suction hoses ... They are used to make the hydrant connection for a water source ...
