Dont worry about dogs getting bitten, they have MUCH better defences against venom than us. In fact they actually use dogs to create anti-venom!!! I knew someone in the amazon whos puppy got bitten by a lancehead and it survived!!!
Having always lived in the NF and seen many adders, u will not get bitten by one unless you tread on it - and if you do, unless you are a dog or a 2yo , you will live - Brockenhurst's famous Snakecatcher was bitten HUNDREDS of times and still lived to a ripe age! There is low risk of an anaphylactic shock in some people similar to wasp stings etc. The reality for most walkers is that the adder will have smelt and/or heard you long before you see it and will usually slither off out of the way.
lol, i found a redneck in my garden the other day lol it was tiny :P i just wished they wer poisonius, it wud have made my day lol. more exciting if u know wht i mean:P
If you get bitten by this species, the result is agonising convulsions followed by horrendous swelling, grotesque disfigurement and finally paralysis. You then have precisely 1 and 1/2 hours to get hold of an anti toxin otherwise the victim will succumb to the poison which results in one's becoming a lifetime fan of simon cowell.Don't say you weren't warned!
they can't kill a human once the body has past roughly 2 years in age. Venom dies out as it is washed round the body and because adults bodies and organs are larger, the venom is gone and will probably only make an adult sick.
makes you pretty ill, the swelling is unbelieveable as is the pain so I'm told.. I heard it can take years to recover from a bite even for a fit healthy adult.
unless ur allergic to adder venom theres no problem. in the venom is an anti clotting agent which causes the adders prey (eg a mouse) to bleed to death, but there isnt enough in one bite for it to work on a human. the blood clotts as usual
Right for the record YES its poisonous but NO it CANNOT kill an adult human and they are by no means aggressive if u leave it alone yes they live in the UK but its not "nasty" or "evil" as some idiots have tagged it below i have been bitten by one and i dont not even notice until i saw the puncture wounds and i felt fine by no means a killer or anything to be scared of
Ive been going to watch adders in the wild for some time and they are loverly creatures, very misunderstood. Like any other wild animal will only bite to defend itself, so its perfectly safe to take pictures and watch them.
There are nasty plants as well. Like foxgloves. Sundews. Butterworts. Bladderworts. I would like to find a snake. I wouldn't care if it bit me, I am too big to be overcome by the venom, although grass snakes look very nices as well. I think I'll have a look for the british reptiles when I go out to the moors this summer (which is intended to find carnivorous plants, but I can look for the kippery [kipper, or nipper is my dog]little snakes too).
im trying to get my wifewild camping, fuk that no chance if i tell about adders in the uk lol didnt clea patra die from one ?
