That is about the most absurd thing I've ever heard or read in regard to Garbage. If anybody has listened to Pattie Smith or Blondie I think most would agree that Garbage is more like Blondie than Pattie Smith. Regardless it is so obvious that Shirley was strongly influenced by both of them. Comparing them and calling them a cover for either is totally disrespectful and moronic. Give the credit where it is due. Garbage has their own sound and they're a kick ass band.

Anyway,I have been an avid Garbage fan for a few years, but I've been leaning to Angelfish lately. Their stuff is rather catchy and enjoyable.

Obvious to you maybe. It's totally subjective. An opinion doesn't make you right. You just have a different taste. Garbage's music is hardly rubbish...it always avoided sounding generic like much of the crap being spewed out around it. It puts alot of emphasis on melody and makes great use of Shirley's voice. Those are facts, but only your personal wiring will tell you if you appreciate the sound.

I don't agree. They're both completely different bands, but one can say that Garbage is infinitely more varied and unique than Angelfish. There were plenty of female fronted bands in the 90's with that twangy, dreamy "Breakfast At Tiffany's" sound, and that's as far as they got. Garbage on the other hand have taken greater risks and experimented more with their music, swapping styles and producing more interesting and complex tunes. And they certainly wern't emo!!!

I simply stated that it is good stuff, though not as good as Garbage was once Shirley came to the helm, but that her VOICE WAS ALREADY THERE (meaning she was already super great voice, stage presence, etc.). And again, while the song is ok, it is not up to the standards that Garbage as a band, with Shirley, had and has. Besides, it is all subjective anyway.

I don't think Angelfish would have been as popular as Garbage. Garbage is a little different with it's 'poppish' and 'grundish' sound, while Angelfish is (what I would classify as) another rock band. :/

Same here.. Shirley's voice had matured into her incredible style, the musicians in Garbage are far better than Angelfish, imo, and Garbage as an entire team just has such presence. Their first two albums are untouchable. I am hoping Shirl's solo one is great.. and that they put another one (at least!) out as a band, too.
