The dumping of the toxic was a politic issue.The former minister and many others high officials were involved in it. They wanted to give a bad reputation to the president Lauren Gbagbo( Babo) of "bad management". The president of the country has taken an action by firing those corrupted officials involved in the toxicity. That is really sad.For their own political "benefit" they have to kill people of Cote d'Ivoire to reach their end:give bad reputation to Gbagbo.

Aljazeera is just so lucky to have, Haru Mutasa as their reporter. Very sincere, factual...an eye-opener story... I, myself, is from a third world country but whenever I watch report of Mutasa...I still feel thankful and lucky, but it doesn't end their. All of us should work together to help Africa... Africa needs to look to Africa for remedies to problems. When the UN attempts to media in Africa we have the complexities of Somalia.

There exists many problems such as this one. Is Africa to look to the UN when these issues present themselves and not be indebted? Is Africa some pathetic collection of savages that cannot fend for themselves? Does Africa constantly need to be "rescued" from itself? This issue is another tragedy but one that must be addressed locally.

A local solution can then be found so that toxic dumps can be contained. This should create local employment solving two problems rather than creating a health problem or more.

Honestly there's more environmental concern now and you can't go a week without seeing them play something on global warming so why aren't they showing this? Well the US has not strategic interest (such as oil) in Cote d'ivoire, thus no one hears bout it, but they did build the biggest us embassy in Abidjan, so maybe they are getting more interested in the region, I was in Abidjan when they dumped the toxic waste, I have not noticed anything since I came back.

Going to the doctor for treatment is useless when the cause of the disease is still there. No matter how difficult it is, renewed efforts must be made to clean up the toxic waste. Covering it up with sand is just like putting makeup on a wound. The toxic waste will eventually leach into the groundwater and poison everyone who drinks it. The waste dump must be closed and the people there should think of alternative means of waste disposal which are not hazardous to their health.

I like reporter Haru Mutasa because she is not afraid to face the camera clad in simple clothing and without makeup; unlike other female reporters who look like they spent hours on their hair, makeup, and wardrobe, and thus, look totally out of place when they are out in the field covering a flood disaster in Guatemala or a drug epidemic in Argentina's slums, for instance. If a reporter is so preoccupied with looking good in front of the camera, I already know her report is not going to be good.
