if this band could write songs then they would be rock stars. they cant....judas priest can write songs with that special hook. they don t sound bad but the songs and arangements are bad. the production isnt very good either. the trueth.
Well, they make it plenty obvious to know who their heroes were. Its interesting to hear songs from obscure bands that other more mainstream acts at that time could of played. A weird passtime I know...
Saw them at Rockers on Indian School Road in June of 1985......can't even tell you what happened in the back of my van....hey....will someone post a video of "Future Allies"....they were the kings of "Hammerheads"....

Hate to tell the guy with the shades this, but guess what dude? You DON'T have your own product. You sound like every OTHER hairband that was struggling for recognition back in the day.
@yamila68 Your an ass These guys were such a part of the 80's it it is sad to know that hey didn't make it. I would have liked to have some of there stuff on cd. The name is cool as well.
I love this footage Joel - thank you so much! I hope to see Surgical Steel AT LEAST one more time! Crossing my fingers for one of the greatest bands on earth!
@whichoneisme Yep, was one of my teacher's. He is still playing with Icon. They opened up for Queensryche last year. But Dan is hard ay work writing and recording now. STILL ROCKIN!!!!!!! Say hello to him on facebook. He will respond to you.
my best friend punched jim keeler in the face in the 80's we threw rocks at him at a show at the garden of gears, ahh, to be a youth again, funny stuff!!!!
My brother worked for Rob Halford and Jim Keilor when they had "Where It's Hot." It was a Phoenix area entertainment periodical. My brother worked in the sales dept. I remember pulling into my driveway after work one night and Keilor and my brother were in the drive way chatting. Freakin' awsome guitarist. Get the band back together Jim.
It's time for a reunion of all the great hard rock/metal/glam bands in the Phoenix/Tempe area of the 80's! A dude that got in contact with me a few months ago,and I,talked about the time that our bands that we were in at the time,(his band 'Plain Jayne',my band 'Ripp Off'),opening for Tuff at the Mason Jar in '89. Great, exciting times!!
I remember hearing 'Rivethead' on MM2 and thinking, wow, these guys are cool! Hearing/seeing this now makes me realize why they never got signed: second rate songs with a serious cheese factor. - Anybody got any St.Michael videos, Jeff's other band w/ Greg Chaisson and Jim McMellen?
OH MY GOSH I ALMOST FELL OUT OF MY CHAIR! This is too funny! Wow how we have all changed.. looky looky at Paul Jimmy and Jeff... wow.. Has Jim seen this yet? I'm sending it to him right now because you know he's going to want to post this on myspace page LOL
Paul and I just love these. Thanks so much for sharing these with us! We have some great memories of those days and seeing these, its almost like being there again! Love it!
I was just reading a information site about, Surgical Steel, written by one of the ex members i think, anyways, it's got a "what are they doing now?" section, but in the Paul Kosanovich section, it says whereabouts and status unknown, all the others are listed with full info.
Yes, I know the site you are referring too, but I don't think it has been updated in years. Paul and I tried to send an update to the guy, but no response.
Incredible group of talented guys! Paul/Jeff's vocal work is (still) some of the best I've ver heard! I once heard Paul sing "My Funny Valentine"; unaccompanied-AMAZING!(I believe I still have a secret recording of him singing a Chaka Kahn song in the shower). AZ in the '80s? Great bands. Remember Cranium Vex, Haven, or Voyeur Dire? How about concerts at "the warehouse" & thousands of metal heads partying in the middle of the desert until sunrise? Hope more videos surface.
Talk about a blast from the past! Seems only yesterday I saw Surgical Steel at Clancy's in Phoenix. It was St. Patrick's Day, green beer flowed, and SS gained a new fan. Thanks, JoelSamuel, for posting this video! Trivia tidbit: vocalist Jeff Martin later joined Racer X and played drums for Badlands with Jake E. Lee
