I don't think I could've come up with any questions that weren't already covered by somebody here, so my failure to submit is no big loss, I suppose. But since you invited more questions, I wouldn't mind hearing about your favorite composers of film scores...or perhaps your favorite classical music pieces. Someone asked you about particular performances you consider the best, but how about actors and actresses you are impressed by in general? What about favorite lines or dialogue scenes?
@CineRam Hmm I'm trying to figure out how I would incorporate your questions in a future video. I could answer in comment form but that would be kind of lame of me. I could maybe try to get together some of my favorite composers and do a video on that maybe? The same goes for the other two questions.
Oh, Brick <3 For sure my favourite Joseph Gordon-Levitt film also. We do have a Blu-Ray of it over here in the good ol' U of K. I haven't watched it to comment on it though =)
Good to see you're doing well, Mr! I miss this YouTube world =(
@LadyHaych I've missed you! Does this mean your back....At least as far as commenting on videos? I think my mind would explode if you started doing videos again but either way it would be awesome to have you back in some form!
Man I'm jealous! I'd totally get that blu ray if it wasn't region locked.
Lars is the biggest cunt in the film industry. I say my username as one word sometimes and I've heard people on PSN butcher it much worse than that. I recently netflixed Hey Arnold and watched it again with my brother. Always loved Rocco also. Good Q&A. I really enjoy hearing you talk. I completely agree with you on Breaking Bad. Watch season three on Blu-Ray when you get the chance.
Speaking of movies i'm embarrassed to say that i haven't seen yet, I have yet to see The Shawshank Redemption. I think i may be the last person on earth that hasn't seen it yet.
Can't wait for the Jurassic Park Trilogy blu ray release!
I think The Shawshank Redemption is good but the praise is a little blown out of proportion for me. For example it's number 1 on the imdb top 250 right now...Can't say I agree with that.
Thanks man for answering my question! I LOVE Radiohead, that's sick that you saw them. Sigur Ros I haven't heard a lot but I always hear them getting a lot of praise. I definitely will check out more from them. Dumb and Dumber is definitely one of those movies I've personally watched hundreds of times. Man every time I hear you talk about Breaking Bad makes me want to watch it even more. I might start looking for it online today.
@TheBSKILL No problem. yeah they were awesome. Their definitely one of my favorite bands. Well if your looking for good lyrics then avoid Sigur Ros. They actually sing in icelandic I think. It's irrelevant though because the music is beautiful...that's the only word top accurately describe it.
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah I knew they didn't sing in English but Icelandic? That sort of cool, I didn't know that. What album would you recommend get listen too?
@TheBSKILL Actually I just looked it up and I think they Icelandic and some in Hopelandic which is kind of just made up jibberish haha but it sounds good. I'd say either 'Takk...' or 'Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust'. Not a lot of their stuff is upbeat and catchy. It's kind of like chill music. I recommend the songs 'Glósóli','Hoppípolla' and 'Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur' to give you a mix of what they sound like.
@theInnerdvdPattern Oh wow, never heard any Hopelandic ever. Thanks man, I'm into a lot of types of music so I want to give this a listen. I like having some atmospheric stuff in my music line-up too and I've been trying to find a good one for awhile. Thanks :)
@TheBSKILL I think the singer of Sigur Ros just made up Hopelandic haha and that's what he calls it. A lot of Sigur Ros's stuff has an atmospheric vibe to it. The song 'Sæglópur' has a good atmospheric vibe I think. I could be wrong though because I'm no expert on atmospheric music haha.
@theInnerdvdPattern Wow that's pretty creative, coming up w/ your own language. I'll check out that song for sure. The best Ambient band I know is "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" it's almost like a short story in a song, I love it.
@TheBSKILL Yeah it is! He may be just singing nosense with rhyme or reason though haha but I think it works.
I think I've only heard one or maybe two songs from "Godspeed You! Black Emperor". While Sigur Ros doesn't sound like them they do share some similarities actually. A lot of their songs start out soft and then builds on itself and it eventually gets louder and louder. I haven't heard much of their older stuff but their first few releases there's longer songs on it are 10-12 minutes..
@TheBSKILL Of course that can't touch "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" with 30 minute songs haha. I think Sigur Ros actually toured with Radiohead a few times back in the day.
@TheBSKILL I need to properly check out "Godspeed You! Black Emperor". Which album should I start with?
They actually played different years...Radiohead was in 06 and Sigur Ros 08. I think they might've toured even earlier then those dates but not sure. That would be an epic show seeing them both!
@theInnerdvdPattern I would recommend all their stuff but my favorite is "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven". Oh man that would be a great pairing, I'm sure because it seems they both aren't too far from each other they we're paired up earlier. That's pretty neat though. Oh, and I totally dig any song lengths just really depends on what the band does with it.
@theInnerdvdPattern Could be, they've been around awhile. I'll have to re-watch the film because I became a fan of theirs only a few years back. Yeah man, some bands just work well with a certain time frame.
@TheBSKILL I looked it up and apparently they used the song 'East Hastings' or part of it anyways. I think I remember it playing right after he walks out of the hospital, looks around shouting for people.
@TheBSKILL I dig that track...or the little I've heard of it anyways haha. Man their albums are a tad expensive for me at the moment but it seems like a lot of their songs are on youtube so I'll check them out! Didn't they get back together this year? I'm not sure if it's for good but I heard they were playing some shows maybe?
@theInnerdvdPattern Not sure if GY!BM is back because they haven't released anything new in awhile, but if they are that's awesome! Yeah I just DL their discography, a total of like 20 songs but they all are very long haha. Yeah YouTube is a great tool, although sometimes you have to listen to the song in parts :P
@TheBSKILL Do you mean DL as in itunes etc or the 'cough cough you know....' version of DLing? I've been known to do both. Let's just say I make up for it with buying tickets to see them live and buying merch haha. Thankfully some people took advantage of the extended time limit for youtube vids and I've been able to find a good bit of full songs in one video.
@theInnerdvdPattern Haha, I'm sort of the same way. I love buying albums but when I want to listen to a new band or something IMMEDIATELY! I will DL. But I purchase tickets, merch & other albums if I like what I hear first. So it all equals out. Oh yeah? That's a plus. I think "Storm" is my favorite song by GY!BE
@TheBSKILL Yeah I try to buy albums as much as I can. I listened to the intro song to 'Lift Your Skinny Fists....' as well as the song 'Antennas To Heaven' although I don't think that's the name of the song....that's just what's it's named on youtube. It was an 18 minute song. It starts with a clip of some guy playing an acoustic guitar I think? Something about a bottle of gin ha. There's certain parts in the song that are kind of creepy in that 'this could be in a David Lynch Movie' vibe.
@theInnerdvdPattern I think that was "Storm" because that's track one on the first disc. Maybe it was the first song on disc two? Yeah they do have a vibe that could be very much in a Lynch movie. I'll have to listen to more movies to see if they used any of their stuff at all.
@TheBSKILL Ahh ok. Either way I liked them both. I think I've only heard the first 6 minutes of Storm because I'm actually listening to the full version now. Epic stuff!
@theInnerdvdPattern I'm glad you are digging it :) I've been listening to Sigur Ros and digging everything so far. I swear GY!BE is my favorite driving music to listen to.
@TheBSKILL Glad you digging some Sigur Ros. I actually drove to some GY!BE. Ok I did the 'cough cough' DL I mean nevermind! I can definitely see that. They would be great on a road trip!
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah they have been definitely growing on me lately, I see what you we're saying in how that would wrap up a Bonaroo perfectly. Oh yeah, perfect road trip music. Great atmosphere for driving those long hours. Haha, we all do it from time 2 time.
@TheBSKILL I think why they were sooo good live is not only because they were but at the end of the day there and particularly at night, the tiredness creeps up on you from all the walking around. We watched the show sitting on lawn chairs and it was like soothing my eardrums! Ok that may have sounded slightly gay but it was soothing!
I could see Godspeed playing a festival like Bonnaroo. Not that their similar but Explosions In The Sky played at Bonnaroo this year.
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah they probably knew how they sounded and placed them near the end on purpose because it would tend to those who just wanted something really calm or soothing to close the night out.
Yeah I love Explosions in the Sky too, it's cool to listen to those ambient style bands because they are really great if your trying to mix up a show like Bonaroo id think. GY!BE would be awesome at Bonaroo too
@TheBSKILL Yeah and one thing happened that was kind of random and hilarious during the show. During one of their songs when the horn section starts playing, the section came out with sombrero hats on and full on mexican attire. It was kind of a WTF moment and maybe it was the 'special' smoke in the air if you get my drift haha but it was cool.
Man now I want to see both Explosions in the Sky and GY!BE live. They should play a show together!
@theInnerdvdPattern Haha Sombrero hats!? That's awesome right there! Haha pixie dust? That'll do'r. That show would be nuts! I'm sure there got to be festivals just dedicated to bands like them. Would be great.
@theInnerdvdPattern Lol yeah, outdoor festivals + bonaroo type music = drug cocktail! Haha! Yeah I hear a lot of things about SXSW, don't they also do other entertainment stuff as well like Film? I don't know either haha!
@TheBSKILL Indeed and they don't really have people that 'police' to find drugs. They look the other way haha.
SXSW is a film festival too which I also want to go too. Actually I wouldn't mind going to every major festival ha.
Bonnaroo has a tent where they play movies I think but it's more older releases. To be honest though I'm more preoccupied with the music to care. I think this year Zach Braff was there because they were showing Garden State and he was there for a Q&A.
@theInnerdvdPattern My old buddy went this year and said none of the police seemed to care haha! Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing advanced screenings and stuff at SXSW. Oh really? Zach Braff is a hilarious guy, and Garden State has got to be one of my favorite "romance/comedy" movies ever. Yeah I'm more of a music guy so it would be hard to pull me away to watch a movie.
@TheBSKILL Yeah they are probably 'users' too haha. I love Garden State too.
I'm probably more of a movie guy but at Bonnaroo I'm absolutely a music guy! If you go to Bonnaroo for any other reason then your probably wasting your money.
@TheBSKILL Man I wish I could go to Comic Con someday! Oh by the way I learned the intro guitar part to the song 'East Hastings'. That's good stuff right there!
@theInnerdvdPattern Same here, I need to experience that festival at least once. Seems like a whole lot of fun. You did!? That's sick man! I'm going to go listen to that song again haha.
@TheBSKILL Yeah but it's not a super tough part or anything. I'm not very good at guitar so if I can learn it then I'm sure anyone else could who's had a minimum experience with a guitar. It's fun stuff to play!
@TheBSKILL Yeah same here. Solo's are cool but if it's like a 30 minute one or something then that's pushing it for me haha. I'm not sure if I'm playing it in the right tuning though. I haven't played it with the actual song yet but it sounds pretty good in standard tuning.
@theInnerdvdPattern Unless your Jimmy Hendrix or Jimmy Page ;) But yeah good solos are harder to come by I feel. That's sweet, yeah I'm not too sure the tuning of the song but tabs usually have a section where it tells you. You should try to master the entire song, then just like open your window and blast it over your neighborhood haha.
@TheBSKILL Well there can be exceptions of course!
I looked up the tab and it says standard tuning so hopefully that's right. I also learned the intro for the song 'Rockets Fall On Rockets Fall' off of 'Yangui U.X.O'.
Haha I don't think my amp is powerful enough. It's a VOX amp and it can get loud but not sure if I could destroy the whole neighborhood with it hah. Just curious if you've seen the documentary 'It Might Get Loud'? It's with Jimmy Page,The Edge and Jack White.
@theInnerdvdPattern Oh you did? Haha that sweet before you know it you'll have the GY!BE catalog down ;)
How many watts is your VOX? Haha, just rip it up at like 3 in the morning. Surely capture attention, whether or not it's positive haha! I don't believe I have, but with people like Page & White it sounds kickass! Guitar documentary?
@TheBSKILL Haha I don't know. When they really get into the songs it's epic and I'm not ha.
It's 30 watts. It has some power but the whole neighborhood? Maybe at 3am...indeed haha.
Yeah it's basically a profile of each artist. They each talk about their first introduction to the guitar and why they love it so much. They also talk about their influences etc. It's cuts back and forth between that and all 3 of them in a room together 'shooting the shit' about the guitar It's pretty awesome!
Haha just find an outlet outside, then CRANK TO VOLUME 11 (Spinal Tap style haha)
I must see this documentary you speak off, sounds something completely up my alley. I've been watching a lot of music documentaries lately, mainly because my public library kicks so much ass.
@TheBSKILL Yeah one can hope. I'm better than when I first started so that's a plus. I don't have difficulty playing basic chords anymore haha. I prefer picking though anyways.
Yes! It has some basic but good effects on it like reverb, delay etc so..
If your even remotely a fan of any of the 3, then you must! As a casual guitar player I was kind of in guitar heaven.
@theInnerdvdPattern That's good, I want to learn Guitar soon I still only know like 2 chords of which I don't know the names of :( Haha. But I want to get lessons.
Hey, as long as it has the essentials your set. Some of those effects pedals are pretty awesome. My friend has like a 150+ effects one, it's awesome to just play around on. Much like an electronic drum kit is for me.
Oh big fan of Jimmy Page! and Jack White was great in everything he's done so I need to get a bit of Guitar heaven!
@TheBSKILL I wish I could play the drum set! I should probably take guitar lessons at some point but I've gotten around to it. I've just doodled since I've started and used tabs which obviously can't replace lessons but it's not bad I guess. Better than nothing I suppose.
I have a friend like that too who completely pwns me on guitar.
Then it's definitely worth seeing! I love the intro of it. It's Jack White making a guitar of sorts with a string, a piece of wood and a pickup. It's badass.
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah Drums are a ton of fun to play and learn! Yeah I don't believe lessons are essential but for me they are because I like hands on experience from someone who can teach me the basics quicker than on my own.
Haha. Just steal his effects pedal and start whooping ass!
Oh for real? Like all from scratch? Now that's badass
@TheBSKILL I bet! I do want to take guitar lessons at some point but I'm either too busy and/or don't have the doh.
I wish haha!
Yeah it's awesome!
This may be random but are you into odd stuff? There's this french instrumental band that broke up a while ago called Cheval De Frise. It's a two piece band, one guitar player and one drummer. Their music is like on ADD. There's no chorus or anything and the guitar parts are odd and kind of crazy.
@TheBSKILL Their music also kind of made me look at guitar in a different way. The guitar player uses an acoustic and occasionally switches to amplifying it. He plays a lot of dissonant chords and stuff so it isn't super accessible per say but because it changes so much it has quite a bit of replay for me.
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah I can't see myself getting lessons BEFORE I get a full-time job ;)
Man I need to check that band out. I'm a music freak, so I dig ANY time of music and will give even Country a chance. Yeah I dig stuff that doesn't have much structure, sounds like a sweet sound I'll check them out. Kind of reminds me of The White Stripes when you said it was only a 2-piece band. I'll give you a band to check out too there called "My Bloody Valentine" if your into odd guitar genre's.
When I said amplify I meant to say he turns the distortion on and off haha. Their a 2 piece but definitely nothing like The White Stripes ha. I recommend checking out the song 'Connexion Monstrueuse Entre Un Objet Et Son Image' first. They change time signatures too. It's 6 minutes of craziness. It almost feels like a different song by the end of it. I've been meaning to check out My Bloody Valentine! Which album is best?
@theInnerdvdPattern Just checked out a couple of their songs, really sweet sound. It's pretty all over the place but it somehow works if that makes sense. I see what you meant. Oh cool I'll look up that song man. Oh and dude, Sigur Ros has been becoming one of my favorite new bands, thanks for telling me about them. So atmospheric! DEF. check out "Loveless" by them. Such an amazing album and paved the way for the genre of "Shoegaze". :)
@TheBSKILL Yeah their stuff is really pretty random. I have no clue how they came up with their stuff and wrote it. Man the guitar player must have been on a different planet to write stuff like that!
Awesome! Thanks for inadvertently reminding me about Godspeed ha. That's all I've been listening to in the car!
I'll give it a listen thanks! I haven't heard too much from 'Shoegaze' bands.
@theInnerdvdPattern Wow that song was intense! Your right at the end of it you feel like you've been on a song trip!
I'll tellin' ya man Godspeed! was like invented essential car rides. Same w/ bands like Sigur Ros. Totally makes traffic jams more tolerable :)
Yeah Shoegaze is a pretty interesting genre, but I feel My Bloody Valentine did it best. "Loveless" is probably the most well-known of the bunch. Hope you dig it as much as I do. It's more dreamy than anything.
@TheBSKILL That's probably my favorite song by them(if I can even say that). It's weird because the first few times I listened to them I wasn't really into their stuff but for whatever reason I revisited them and now I like them a lot. I guess I just haven't heard a guitar player play quite like that really. I'm sure there are more players out there like him but the constant ADD nature of it fascinates me haha.
They are! I like to jam Sigur Ros at night for some reason....
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah it seems like a band you need to be in the right mood for. But I've heard music KIND OF like that before and it's either well done or terrible. Thankfully that we're actually very talented. I forgot the song title but I dug all the tracks I had heard.
Oh man, hearing them live at night must of been amazing. They certainly take you away, I love that. Seems seamless to them.
Oh really? I'm going to need to check that video out. Again, cannot recommend that album more.
@TheBSKILL Yeah I definitely can't listen to them all the time.
It was! They opened with the song 'Svefn-G-Englar' and it set the mood perfectly. It had an almost immediate calming effect over me. I forgot to mention but the lead singer sometimes plays his guitar with a violin bow! I recommend the band Jonsi which is just the lead singer of Sigur Ros. It's his solo stuff. He's been doing that because they've been on a break. It's a little more upbeat than Sigur Ros but it's still good.
@theInnerdvdPattern Oh ok. I have heard of Jonsi. It's funny because I didn't want to say anything but I thought the two sounded familiar! Thanks pretty cool. I don't think I've ever seen a Guitar player use a violin bow. Going to check to see that!
Sweet. I remember falling in love with the record when id go for drives or walks. Sets a great mood.
@TheBSKILL I'm all for familiar as long as it isn't a rip off or something. Yeah his stuff isn't as good as Sigur Ros but I guess that's to be expected...kind of like Thom Yorke's solo stuff.
I thought Jimmy Page used a bow back in the day? I could be wrong though...I probably am.
What's your favorite song off it or is that too hard a question ha?
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah exactly Yorke solo stuff is incredible, but Radiohead is just something that happens every once in awhile. Hard to compare.
It wouldn't surprise me if he did. Jimmy Page is a GUITAR GOD! Would love to have those skills for like a day.
That is such a tough question. But if id we're to narrow it down, either "Sometimes" or "To Here Knows When" but again THE ENTIRE cd are like those two songs, in that they kick my ears ass.
@TheBSKILL Indeed! Have you heard their latest 'The King Of Limbs'? Besides a few of the songs I wasn't too big on it unfortunately.
Yes! I can't believe I forgot to mention this in your Bonnaroo question but Tenacious D were there last year and they were great! It completely slipped my mind.
@theInnerdvdPattern I remember sampling the album when it was streaming. I didn't mind it the first run through, seemed like a grower. But I remember not being BLOWN AWAY like when I first heard Kid A way back when.
YOU SAW THE D!? Now I'm officially jealous! I bet they we're fucking hilarious!
@TheBSKILL Yeah same here for Kid A and Amnesiac. I do love the song 'Lotus Flower' on the new album though. Have you seen the video for that? It's basically Thom Yorke either dancing, having a seizure or a combo of both haha.
They were! They even brought out that metal guy for 'The Metal'.
cool answers, im sure you have seen the mad max films but you should check out samson and delilah, red hill, VAN DIEMEN'S LAND, chopper. they are my fav australian films off the top of my head. great video.
@InsaneGamer66 Thanks. Of course I've seen the Mad Max films except the 3rd one I think. Those just slipped my mind and I forgot. Also I liked Chopper a lot too but that also slipped my mind for some reason. Samson And Delilah, Red Hill and VAN DIEMEN'S LAND all look great. I'll check them out soon!
Nice list of Blu-Rays! I'm definitely looking forward to the Jurassic Park trilogy on Blu (3rd one does sucks though :P). Finding Nemo should be an amazing Blu as well!
@Crisrav1138 Thanks! Yeah it's about time Jurassic Park comes to Blu-Ray! I don't understand what the hold up is for Finding Nemo. Maybe they're waiting for the 10th anniversary? I hope not. The sooner the better!
Wow, you got to see Sigur Ros live! I'd love to see em', it must have been amazing! Oh and you should check out the podcast Left Field Cinema. It does very in-depth analysis on all types of films.
@Filmaminute Yeah I was pretty lucky to see them. They were! Since it was a late night show they got to play a little longer so they played for like 2 hours. Hope you get to see them someday! I know the lead singer has been doing solo stuff but I hope they get back together again soon(even though his solo stuff is really good).
I don't think I could've come up with any questions that weren't already covered by somebody here, so my failure to submit is no big loss, I suppose. @theInnerdvdPattern Oh really? "East Hastings" is a great song by the way. I need to re-watch it now :P Yeah when he's just woken up.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL I dig that track...or the little I've heard of it anyways haha. Man their albums are a tad expensive for me at the moment but it seems like a lot of their songs are on youtube so I'll check them out! Didn't they get back together this year? I'm not sure if it's for good but I heard they were playing some shows maybe?
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Not sure if GY!BM is back because they haven't released anything new in awhile, but if they are that's awesome! Yeah I just DL their discography, a total of like 20 songs but they all are very long haha. Yeah YouTube is a great tool, although sometimes you have to listen to the song in parts :P
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Do you mean DL as in itunes etc or the 'cough cough you know....' version of DLing? I've been known to do both. Let's just say I make up for it with buying tickets to see them live and buying merch haha. Thankfully some people took advantage of the extended time limit for youtube vids and I've been able to find a good bit of full songs in one video.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Haha, I'm sort of the same way. I love buying albums but when I want to listen to a new band or something IMMEDIATELY! I will DL. But I purchase tickets, merch & other albums if I like what I hear first. So it all equals out. Oh yeah? That's a plus. I think "Storm" is my favorite song by GY!BE
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah I try to buy albums as much as I can. I listened to the intro song to 'Lift Your Skinny Fists....' as well as the song 'Antennas To Heaven' although I don't think that's the name of the song....that's just what's it's named on youtube. It was an 18 minute song. It starts with a clip of some guy playing an acoustic guitar I think? Something about a bottle of gin ha. There's certain parts in the song that are kind of creepy in that 'this could be in a David Lynch Movie' vibe.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern I think that was "Storm" because that's track one on the first disc. Maybe it was the first song on disc two? Yeah they do have a vibe that could be very much in a Lynch movie. I'll have to listen to more movies to see if they used any of their stuff at all.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Ahh ok. Either way I liked them both. I think I've only heard the first 6 minutes of Storm because I'm actually listening to the full version now. Epic stuff!
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern I'm glad you are digging it :) I've been listening to Sigur Ros and digging everything so far. I swear GY!BE is my favorite driving music to listen to.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Glad you digging some Sigur Ros. I actually drove to some GY!BE. Ok I did the 'cough cough' DL I mean nevermind! I can definitely see that. They would be great on a road trip!
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah they have been definitely growing on me lately, I see what you we're saying in how that would wrap up a Bonaroo perfectly. Oh yeah, perfect road trip music. Great atmosphere for driving those long hours. Haha, we all do it from time 2 time.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL I think why they were sooo good live is not only because they were but at the end of the day there and particularly at night, the tiredness creeps up on you from all the walking around. We watched the show sitting on lawn chairs and it was like soothing my eardrums! Ok that may have sounded slightly gay but it was soothing!
I could see Godspeed playing a festival like Bonnaroo. Not that their similar but Explosions In The Sky played at Bonnaroo this year.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah they probably knew how they sounded and placed them near the end on purpose because it would tend to those who just wanted something really calm or soothing to close the night out.
Yeah I love Explosions in the Sky too, it's cool to listen to those ambient style bands because they are really great if your trying to mix up a show like Bonaroo id think. GY!BE would be awesome at Bonaroo too
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah and one thing happened that was kind of random and hilarious during the show. During one of their songs when the horn section starts playing, the section came out with sombrero hats on and full on mexican attire. It was kind of a WTF moment and maybe it was the 'special' smoke in the air if you get my drift haha but it was cool.
Man now I want to see both Explosions in the Sky and GY!BE live. They should play a show together!
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Haha Sombrero hats!? That's awesome right there! Haha pixie dust? That'll do'r. That show would be nuts! I'm sure there got to be festivals just dedicated to bands like them. Would be great.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Probably pixie dust among other things. I don't touch the stuff but there's always a wave of smoke at each stage haha.
I think the closest festival to have something like that may be SXSW? I don't know...I'm no expert on these things.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Lol yeah, outdoor festivals + bonaroo type music = drug cocktail! Haha! Yeah I hear a lot of things about SXSW, don't they also do other entertainment stuff as well like Film? I don't know either haha!
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Indeed and they don't really have people that 'police' to find drugs. They look the other way haha.
SXSW is a film festival too which I also want to go too. Actually I wouldn't mind going to every major festival ha.
Bonnaroo has a tent where they play movies I think but it's more older releases. To be honest though I'm more preoccupied with the music to care. I think this year Zach Braff was there because they were showing Garden State and he was there for a Q&A.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern My old buddy went this year and said none of the police seemed to care haha! Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing advanced screenings and stuff at SXSW. Oh really? Zach Braff is a hilarious guy, and Garden State has got to be one of my favorite "romance/comedy" movies ever. Yeah I'm more of a music guy so it would be hard to pull me away to watch a movie.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah they are probably 'users' too haha. I love Garden State too.
I'm probably more of a movie guy but at Bonnaroo I'm absolutely a music guy! If you go to Bonnaroo for any other reason then your probably wasting your money.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern I agree. I dig a Music Festival over a Movie Festival any day unless it's like Comic Con or something.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Man I wish I could go to Comic Con someday! Oh by the way I learned the intro guitar part to the song 'East Hastings'. That's good stuff right there!
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Same here, I need to experience that festival at least once. Seems like a whole lot of fun. You did!? That's sick man! I'm going to go listen to that song again haha.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah but it's not a super tough part or anything. I'm not very good at guitar so if I can learn it then I'm sure anyone else could who's had a minimum experience with a guitar. It's fun stuff to play!
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern I liked the intro guitar part though, I'm more of riff guy over a solo any day.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah same here. Solo's are cool but if it's like a 30 minute one or something then that's pushing it for me haha. I'm not sure if I'm playing it in the right tuning though. I haven't played it with the actual song yet but it sounds pretty good in standard tuning.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Unless your Jimmy Hendrix or Jimmy Page ;) But yeah good solos are harder to come by I feel. That's sweet, yeah I'm not too sure the tuning of the song but tabs usually have a section where it tells you. You should try to master the entire song, then just like open your window and blast it over your neighborhood haha.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Well there can be exceptions of course!
I looked up the tab and it says standard tuning so hopefully that's right. I also learned the intro for the song 'Rockets Fall On Rockets Fall' off of 'Yangui U.X.O'.
Haha I don't think my amp is powerful enough. It's a VOX amp and it can get loud but not sure if I could destroy the whole neighborhood with it hah. Just curious if you've seen the documentary 'It Might Get Loud'? It's with Jimmy Page,The Edge and Jack White.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Oh you did? Haha that sweet before you know it you'll have the GY!BE catalog down ;)
How many watts is your VOX? Haha, just rip it up at like 3 in the morning. Surely capture attention, whether or not it's positive haha! I don't believe I have, but with people like Page & White it sounds kickass! Guitar documentary?
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Haha I don't know. When they really get into the songs it's epic and I'm not ha.
It's 30 watts. It has some power but the whole neighborhood? Maybe at 3am...indeed haha.
Yeah it's basically a profile of each artist. They each talk about their first introduction to the guitar and why they love it so much. They also talk about their influences etc. It's cuts back and forth between that and all 3 of them in a room together 'shooting the shit' about the guitar It's pretty awesome!
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern In due time though :) !
Haha just find an outlet outside, then CRANK TO VOLUME 11 (Spinal Tap style haha)
I must see this documentary you speak off, sounds something completely up my alley. I've been watching a lot of music documentaries lately, mainly because my public library kicks so much ass.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah one can hope. I'm better than when I first started so that's a plus. I don't have difficulty playing basic chords anymore haha. I prefer picking though anyways.
Yes! It has some basic but good effects on it like reverb, delay etc so..
If your even remotely a fan of any of the 3, then you must! As a casual guitar player I was kind of in guitar heaven.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern That's good, I want to learn Guitar soon I still only know like 2 chords of which I don't know the names of :( Haha. But I want to get lessons.
Hey, as long as it has the essentials your set. Some of those effects pedals are pretty awesome. My friend has like a 150+ effects one, it's awesome to just play around on. Much like an electronic drum kit is for me.
Oh big fan of Jimmy Page! and Jack White was great in everything he's done so I need to get a bit of Guitar heaven!
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL I wish I could play the drum set! I should probably take guitar lessons at some point but I've gotten around to it. I've just doodled since I've started and used tabs which obviously can't replace lessons but it's not bad I guess. Better than nothing I suppose.
I have a friend like that too who completely pwns me on guitar.
Then it's definitely worth seeing! I love the intro of it. It's Jack White making a guitar of sorts with a string, a piece of wood and a pickup. It's badass.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah Drums are a ton of fun to play and learn! Yeah I don't believe lessons are essential but for me they are because I like hands on experience from someone who can teach me the basics quicker than on my own.
Haha. Just steal his effects pedal and start whooping ass!
Oh for real? Like all from scratch? Now that's badass
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL I bet! I do want to take guitar lessons at some point but I'm either too busy and/or don't have the doh.
I wish haha!
Yeah it's awesome!
This may be random but are you into odd stuff? There's this french instrumental band that broke up a while ago called Cheval De Frise. It's a two piece band, one guitar player and one drummer. Their music is like on ADD. There's no chorus or anything and the guitar parts are odd and kind of crazy.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Their music also kind of made me look at guitar in a different way. The guitar player uses an acoustic and occasionally switches to amplifying it. He plays a lot of dissonant chords and stuff so it isn't super accessible per say but because it changes so much it has quite a bit of replay for me.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah I can't see myself getting lessons BEFORE I get a full-time job ;)
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah same here.
Which album is best?
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Just checked out a couple of their songs, really sweet sound. It's pretty all over the place but it somehow works if that makes sense. I see what you meant. Oh cool I'll look up that song man. Oh and dude, Sigur Ros has been becoming one of my favorite new bands, thanks for telling me about them. So atmospheric! DEF. check out "Loveless" by them. Such an amazing album and paved the way for the genre of "Shoegaze". :)
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah their stuff is really pretty random. I have no clue how they came up with their stuff and wrote it. Man the guitar player must have been on a different planet to write stuff like that!
Awesome! Thanks for inadvertently reminding me about Godspeed ha. That's all I've been listening to in the car!
I'll give it a listen thanks! I haven't heard too much from 'Shoegaze' bands.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Wow that song was intense! Your right at the end of it you feel like you've been on a song trip!
I'll tellin' ya man Godspeed! was like invented essential car rides. Same w/ bands like Sigur Ros. Totally makes traffic jams more tolerable :)
Yeah Shoegaze is a pretty interesting genre, but I feel My Bloody Valentine did it best. "Loveless" is probably the most well-known of the bunch. Hope you dig it as much as I do. It's more dreamy than anything.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL That's probably my favorite song by them(if I can even say that). It's weird because the first few times I listened to them I wasn't really into their stuff but for whatever reason I revisited them and now I like them a lot. I guess I just haven't heard a guitar player play quite like that really. I'm sure there are more players out there like him but the constant ADD nature of it fascinates me haha.
They are! I like to jam Sigur Ros at night for some reason....
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Maybe because I saw them live at night...who knows? I've always associated their music with night for some reason.
Listening to 'Loomer' by My Bloody Valentine. Intense! It's in a video with the end sequence of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Perfect!
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah it seems like a band you need to be in the right mood for. But I've heard music KIND OF like that before and it's either well done or terrible. Thankfully that we're actually very talented. I forgot the song title but I dug all the tracks I had heard.
Oh man, hearing them live at night must of been amazing. They certainly take you away, I love that. Seems seamless to them.
Oh really? I'm going to need to check that video out. Again, cannot recommend that album more.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah I definitely can't listen to them all the time.
It was! They opened with the song 'Svefn-G-Englar' and it set the mood perfectly. It had an almost immediate calming effect over me. I forgot to mention but the lead singer sometimes plays his guitar with a violin bow! I recommend the band Jonsi which is just the lead singer of Sigur Ros. It's his solo stuff. He's been doing that because they've been on a break. It's a little more upbeat than Sigur Ros but it's still good.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL I've only heard a few tracks from it and so far I like it. I'll check out the rest of it!
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Oh ok. I have heard of Jonsi. It's funny because I didn't want to say anything but I thought the two sounded familiar! Thanks pretty cool. I don't think I've ever seen a Guitar player use a violin bow. Going to check to see that!
Sweet. I remember falling in love with the record when id go for drives or walks. Sets a great mood.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL I'm all for familiar as long as it isn't a rip off or something. Yeah his stuff isn't as good as Sigur Ros but I guess that's to be expected...kind of like Thom Yorke's solo stuff.
I thought Jimmy Page used a bow back in the day? I could be wrong though...I probably am.
What's your favorite song off it or is that too hard a question ha?
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern Yeah exactly Yorke solo stuff is incredible, but Radiohead is just something that happens every once in awhile. Hard to compare.
It wouldn't surprise me if he did. Jimmy Page is a GUITAR GOD! Would love to have those skills for like a day.
That is such a tough question. But if id we're to narrow it down, either "Sometimes" or "To Here Knows When" but again THE ENTIRE cd are like those two songs, in that they kick my ears ass.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah Yorke by himself is great but you gotta have some Johnny Greenwood!
I wish too. I wish I could have any awesome 'legend of guitar's' skills ha.
Thanks. I'll check those out.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern I agree. It makes Radiohead, Radiohead! :)
Haha. Only if "The Pick of Destiny" really existed!
Sweet!
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Indeed! Have you heard their latest 'The King Of Limbs'? Besides a few of the songs I wasn't too big on it unfortunately.
Yes! I can't believe I forgot to mention this in your Bonnaroo question but Tenacious D were there last year and they were great! It completely slipped my mind.
Those tracks are good stuff.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern I remember sampling the album when it was streaming. I didn't mind it the first run through, seemed like a grower. But I remember not being BLOWN AWAY like when I first heard Kid A way back when.
YOU SAW THE D!? Now I'm officially jealous! I bet they we're fucking hilarious!
Oh yeah? Pumped you like 'em.
TheBSKILL 8 months ago
@TheBSKILL Yeah same here for Kid A and Amnesiac. I do love the song 'Lotus Flower' on the new album though. Have you seen the video for that? It's basically Thom Yorke either dancing, having a seizure or a combo of both haha.
They were! They even brought out that metal guy for 'The Metal'.
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
@theInnerdvdPattern I haven't seen the video yet!! Seizure dance? Sounds like an epic Tom Yorke combo!
Haha Metal guy on The Metal? I love it! I've seen concert footage, Jack Black always gives er hardcore!

InsaneGamer66 8 months ago
@InsaneGamer66 Thanks. Of course I've seen the Mad Max films except the 3rd one I think. Those just slipped my mind and I forgot. Also I liked Chopper a lot too but that also slipped my mind for some reason. Samson And Delilah, Red Hill and VAN DIEMEN'S LAND all look great. I'll check them out soon!
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
Nice list of Blu-Rays! I'm definitely looking forward to the Jurassic Park trilogy on Blu (3rd one does sucks though :P). Finding Nemo should be an amazing Blu as well!
Great answers!
Crisrav1138 8 months ago
@Crisrav1138 Thanks! Yeah it's about time Jurassic Park comes to Blu-Ray! I don't understand what the hold up is for Finding Nemo. Maybe they're waiting for the 10th anniversary? I hope not. The sooner the better!
theInnerdvdPattern 8 months ago
Wow, you got to see Sigur Ros live! I'd love to see em', it must have been amazing! Oh and you should check out the podcast Left Field Cinema. It does very in-depth analysis on all types of films.
Filmaminute 8 months ago
@Filmaminute Yeah I was pretty lucky to see them. They were! Since it was a late night show they got to play a little longer so they played for like 2 hours. Hope you get to see them someday! I know the lead singer has been doing solo stuff but I hope they get back together again soon(even though his solo stuff is really good).
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out.
