Flip III Generation ($199.99) and the Kodak Zi8 ($179.95) but you must purchase a SDHC card for the Zi8 which varies from 10-35 dollars (you probably want to get a fast one). For people who have MicroSD slots on their computer woopdy doo~
Other features, the Flip USB is stiff and doesn't have much leg room and flexibility. The Zi8 has a bendy one although it's a bit short and awkwardly placed.
However from the beginning you can clearly see that the Zi8 has a much better video quality than the Flip HD. But it seems like it has a difficult time trying to focus (2:50). The Flip would KILL the Zi8 in low light (3:36) you can see it's getting buzzed out.
Moving aside from video quality the Zi8 has an external mic jack for those who actually care. Including a very poorly made built in image stabilization. The Flip third generation has it also..
Because I'm a pro and don't use internal mics. I can really care less about how the mic sounds in a flip cam. The audio both are crap to me. Even the internal mic on a $3,000 camera is crap. Mics! I use the Zi8 and plug in pro mics for pro audio. So if sound is important you wouldn't be using the internal mic. You asked.

I have both cameras. I prefer the Flip Ultra HD 3rd gen. Its 60 frames per second and image stabilization out perform the Kodak in all respects. Kodak is terrible indoors compared to the Flip. Make sure you buy the real Flip Ultra 3rd gen model number 32120. I see some sellers promoting the 1 hour model as the 3rd gen. Perhaps it is 3rd gen but the 1 hour models don't have image stabilization and record at a choppy 30 frames per second, like the Kodak does.
The Zi8 is the better camera. Audio input, Macro, maintains darks in low light instead of blowing everything out with high video gain, USB chargeable, less rolling shutter (pretty big difference) & 720/1080. No brainier for me.
I like the Zi8 better, and I have worked with both. If anything, the Flip is for people who like no hassle, and the Zi8 is for people who have more experience and want to be professional.
can i ask how you downloaded the video from the the flip camera, I have the flip ultra hd, and the video quality is no where near the one on your video. the Video is very choppy and not as sharp. Can someone help?
The Flip camera is best if you're shooting something 4-8ft away, its focus appears to be centered more in that distance. The Zi8 is blurry until about 15ft out, but then ends up making distance shots look sharper. For most folks needs (home videos of kids/pets/close-up action) -- I'd say the Flip is focused in the right place!
the kodak has 2 modes. near mode and far mode. what youre seeing is the far mode where the distance is perfectly clear but when he zooms in on plants its pretty blurry. the near mode has no problem recording upclose things but you dont get clarity in the distance. so perhaps if you are changing between the two alot then the flip might be better. but i dont think its a big issue
The Kodak ZI8 has 1080p, 720p with 60fps which is good for fast action to make the video smoother. Also don't forget the Kodak has macro vision which allows you to focus in on close up shots where you blur out the background and get better detail. Another plus for the ZI8 is that it has an external mic out which allows you to plug in a better mic to get great sound.
@ShawntyGirl the kodak has a macro toggle.. the camera man/lady is switching between the two as he's filming. @2:50 it's on the incorrect setting.. but as you see it get to the water pump shortly after, it gets the water pump more clearly than the ultra HD. You can also see the macro mode in action when he/she is filming the guy holding the cigarette lighter. You can actually see the skin lines...
It's not blurry, it's just too far when it's on the macro setting. Macro = really close.

Flip UltraHD is a great camera, I own one. However, the Zi8 has image stabilization and external mic input (stereo), so I am getting a Zi8 ASAP! Plus 720p at 60 FPS, that is just great!

the flip doesn't pixalate as much and has slightly better color... but the kodak has a more sensative light balance and you can store a memory card for longer recordings. over all i choose the kodak Zi8

The Kodak was good for the majority of it, but the FlipHD doesn't have that crappy lense focus issue the Kodak has where when you are zoomed up on something the UltraHD you can see the object and the background cleanly, while the Kodak is blurry and unfocused. Tough break.
