  • Duh..every gay relationship ends in tragic...we`re fucking gay...but i want ti put an end to that too...so i want to ask you out...hi im mike )

  • This was such an amazing movie.

  • I was actually really happy that the sex scenes were so tasteful. The fact that the kissing was so passionate made me want a relationship like theirs instead of a meaningless hookup. Such a good movie!

  • I found this movie a few months ago, and upon first watch it became my all time favourite ever. Watch it all the time, and the soundtrack is great.

In response to criticism on how positive the coming out was, I feel it reflects my own coming out quite well. All of my friends were very accepting and only a few of my family members had some issues coming to terms with it.

I just love that this movie takes a different approach to the whole gay love story, making this movie accessible to everyone

  • True, not all coming out experiences are positive, but not all are negative either!

I completely agree with the physical aspect of it! The eye contact is beautiful and conveys to the audience the passion and love that doesn't need to be brought in explicity.

  • Good movie review, it's on Netflix dvd so I greatly enjoyed it, I was really pleased with this film... I was in a pretty crappy mood and this really cheered me up... it's kind of a inspirational gay film saying that even when you think everyone will hate you for being gay, you just gotta reach out for happiness if you want it.

  • i agreed with a lot of what you said. though i thought the length of the film was fine. so much was conveyed, brilliantly, in very short scenes. i agree that the physical relationship was tasteful. hollywood has gone porno, and regular actors should not have to do pornography, and audiences shouldn't have to see pornography in regular films. i disagree with you about the acting quality of the sister's character, though. i thought her performance was great, as was all the acting in the film.

  • Great review for what I think is a great film... and I'm a straight girl.

Agree w/your complaint about it needing to be a bit longer to help really fill in the gaps. I've watched so many gay-themed films; to me, this is far and away the best of them. Beautiful Thing being a close 2nd. Shank was also great but so very dark and so very brutal. Brokeback was just depressing.

    Anyway, good job!!

  • @elmagicomessi Clever

  • I really love their eye contact. That's what I love in this movie, they showed the eye contact connection. :)

  • im not gay but shelter is my favorite movie too! zack and shawn's connection is amazing and their friendly boyish relationship is awesome! i've seen this movie various times and i dont get tired of it :) i ♥ Shelter

  • I saw brokeback mountain and i think brokeback is the best gay movie ever@!!

  • @JakeGyllenhaalFan1 Best ' Bi' movie ever. Real gays couldn't 'do' a woman.

  • @launwatch Did Trevor have sex with the girl? I didn't think he ever did.... His situation was similar to me, I was a teen in the closet dating a girl and I would just get sick to my stomach whenever she'd want to have sex.... could never bring myself to do it.

  • There's too much sex in movies today? Which movies exactly? Every movie today is PG 13 and when there's a really adult movie like Blue Valentine it gets NC17 and no one sees it. Have you watched many movies today? And what's wrong with too much sex if it tells a story? Worse are boring movies with false happy endings that have no relation to real life.

  • "I don't go to movies to be depressed". Great art, no matter how bleak, is never depressing. If you appreciate movies or art or literature, then "bleak" stories that are well told are exhilerating. Bad movies like a bad comedy are more depressing to me than anything like Brokeback mountain, precious or Schindler's LIst. Those film were all uplifting because they were great art about real human experience.

  • This review is silly. You don't complain that drama is unhappy or has unhappy endings because it's nicer to have happy ending. Tell that to Shakespeare. Brokeback Mountain is the superior film in every way. It does not suggest that being gay ends tragically. It suggests that for those particular characters, it was a struggle.

  • Great review!

  • I. Loved. It. It was so sweet :')

  • As much as they believe that the coming out experience in the film didn't "reflect reality" it did of my own. My own Coming Out was more about me overcoming myself, my own inner fears then anything else.

Once I managed that and my friends and family found out most were accepting from the beginning. One or two had to deal with it in their own time, but the film displays a "Coming Out" where the greatest hurdle was Zach, and then his sister.

    Not wrong, just different.

  • I've been watching this movie almost on a regular basis for the last year. It is an oddly uplifting movie. I'm not sure why but it's helped me deal with my own life, which is something very strange since I've never found a movie that allowed me to rethink my own feelings and beliefs.

  • Why do you care about gay stereotypes? Stereotypes exist for a reason, because they are true.

  • @metronomic1 Only Sith and children deal in absolutes. Stereotypes exist because we as humans love to group and judge. I guarantee you in every supposed stereotype, there are exceptions.

  • THANKS

Your right on in what you say!!!!!! And yes its good to see a gay movie with a happy

    ending, THANKS AGAIN

  • I love this film. I have the dvd and I watch it so much! Lol

  • GAH -falls over and dies-

This movie makes my heart flutter, it really does.

Trevor Wright has GORGEOUS eyes...not that that has anything to do with the movie.

  • hey ! Just saw got the DVD today .. and watched it 3 times .. I agree with everything that you said in the review =)

  • i wud choose shelter above brokeback mountain anyday

  • Excellent review on a really beautifull uplifting film - love the bit about eye contact and not needing words - totally believable - we found ourselves rooting for Zack - it has that feel good factor that leave you smilling inside.

  • I agree that gay characters should definitely be treated as equal to straight characters, and therefore being gay shouldn't be at the forefront of their personalities, however I do think it is important to also have people- not necessarily gay- who don't fit gender stereotypes. Some men are effeminate, some are masculine, and same goes for women- regardless of sexual orientation. So it's important to have characters like that too, just not as the punchline and *only* the punchline.

  • i completely loved the movie and i agree about the dgree of sex it was enough its a coming of age and love story not a porno over all great movie zack got a loving boyfriend and a cute kid i think that thats a good life. overall it was an amazing movie and would recomend others to watch

p.s cody is so cute when he smiles in the scene when shaun asks him what he would like to eat :D

  • one of myy top ten gay movies of all time!

  • I just watched this. What a beautiful, heartfelt movie!

  • Really great review of one of my favorite movies of all time

  • I also suggest seeing "Latter Days" about a closeted Mormon who falls in love with an openly gay man but has to deal with the ignorance of his church. It also has a happy ending, thank God!! There's a little bit more sex than "Shelter" but its not disgustingly raunchy.

  • yea....i like the movies with gay guys who are together and in love...i like that...romantic and passionate

it is something many gays want but miss

  • yea....i like the movies with gay guys who are together and in love...i like that...romantic and passionate

  • yea....i like the movies with gay guys who are together and in love...i like that...

  • I think Zach is more of a bisexual seeing in the beginning he has a girlfriend.

  • @beeto456 That's not bisexuality, that's denial.

  • @eurisko67 Hmmm... So actually he is not in love with his girlfriend at all? :O

  • oh yeah, I agree with you about stereotypes in gay movies. It really starts to piss me of because a hugely disproportionate amount of gay stories revolving around prostitutes. And sometimes the way females behave in gay stories makes me feel like the story was written by someone with a jealous chip on their shoulder.

  • lol I guess gay films are more realistic about the percentage of relationships that last a lifetime. Those teenage high school films that end with the girls getting the hot guy never show you 3 years later when they break up in college.

  • _cont_

I downloaded the film and my instinct didn't disappoint me because now, I found the second movie that made me feel this way until now (aside from BBM),, full of love and aspirations to life.. i dunno.. I JUST LOVE SHELTER TO DEATH,, all praises to the Cast, staff and crew.. Esp to Trevor Wright and Brad Rowe.. Such GOOD ACTORS.. lovelots...

  • I believe I've seen the trailer at the movie house back in college with those surfing scenes and heart melting eye contacts and told myself to watch it once showing but I forgot the date because board exam was approaching.. so last week, upon seeing the trailer again but this time on You tube(thanks so much to you tube btw) brought back that memory in college that something was empty but couldn't remember what it was.. _cont_

  • YES - MEU FILME - LINDO ADORO ESTE FILME E TODOS OS CONTEXTS DA OBRA NOS DAR UMA NOVA VISAO DA REAL SITUACAO DO GAY NO MUNDO > O QUE SE PODE SER FEITO PARA SE TER RESPEITO - SENDO GAY OU QUALQUER COISA NESTE SENTIDO - ADORO O ELENCO - E FEITO SOBRE MEDIDA - ESTE FILME TEM UM GENTE INCRIVEL DE NOS TOCAR - - NOSSA ALMA E NOSSO CONCEITO DO MUNDO EM RELACAO A POSTURA GAY NO MUNDO OK - ROB /BRASIL

  • Shelter is my favorite movie along with Latter days. Stunning movies, I love them<3

  • No, it wasn't a perfect movie, but it was such a refreshing change from some ot the others out there. Brad Rowe & Trevor Wright were so good that I was sure I was seeing two fine gay actors.NO; they are not gay.I applaud them for communicating warmth & love in such a convincing manner. Trevor Wright could melt any man's heart with the eye contact in 5:38. Only complaint was the overuse of the f... word, and a bit too much pottymouth, but I still think of it as a truly good film.

  • i thought this movie was really good, but to compare it to bbm is silly because shelter is 2006,bbm is set in 1968 mind you in the south,so to me bbm had more realism to it,.when heath ledge past away there where people from the south who wanted to protest at his funarel just because he played gay.as far as jack twist being straight watch bbm again jack only got married to fit in with everybody else

  • God, I LOVED this movie. I downloaded it and even have it on my iPod :D!

  • @Titanz91 hey I have it on my iPod too :) I loved it, they make such a beautiful couple, I think It´s way better than BBM, at least I liked this one more....Loved when Zack goes to Shawn´s place and says I´M SO SORRY, he looked so tender, I´m in love with him hahahah, OMG that statement was very corny LOL....Loved this movie anyway!!!!!

  • This film is so beautiful. Honestly. <3

  • Perfect review with strong and excellent points. thanks so much.

Just something to add though, i found that the story was so heavily concentrated on Zach's life that perhaps the audience was given too little of what Sean's life is all about. In the movie it seems almost as if he sits at home everyday waiting for Zach.

Also Jeanne's argument with Zach did not quite make sense, I didn't get the feeling that that scene was of much importance because the argument didn't come out to me very strong

  • It is extremely heart warming to see all the supportive comments here from gay and straight alike. You people make me proud!

Another great gay movie is "Latter Days".

    Take care, love you all!

    John

  • not all gay men believe in anal sex...really?

  • @tyrongaye Really.

  • @gadgetfreak84 my cousin who recently told us he was gay told us this and he is so more confident since watching shelter :D me and my cousin love shelter and has brought us together we're more like brother and sister now :D. he was scared to tell us he was gay and was shocked by our reaction and is now like i said more confident :D a big thumbs up for shelter and is it just me or is brad rowe sexy :D hormones working overtime haha

  • @scousechick87 Wonderful family. You responded as all should but too many do not. I have debated too many on here that insist its wrong and gays are sick. Also ask why gays must "come out" at all? My dad had pictures of me at the office, why can't your cousin too?

  • @DAVIDAMORSE1701 if ur gay bi or straight it doesnt matter, we're all human at the end of the day and we all have different views on who ppl shud love u shudnt be trapped and stopped to be who u really we really are I face difficulty in another way, Im from Liverpool and a scouser and being a scouser there are views about scousers that dont hold up and i get called a murderer and a theif because of indidents tht happened and if i go to manchester the abuse i get as a scouser is nasty and painful

  • @gadgetfreak84 great review u pointed out everything i waz thinking while i waz watching tht movie. not everything is about sex but about feelings and im glad u pointed tht out. this movie is possibly better than any other romantic movie i've seen gay or straight. again awesome review!!! <333

  • @tyrongaye there is great diversity in this world.

  • @tyrongaye Clap your hands if you believe in fairies.

  • @kimmois1

lol i don't belive in'em but i'll do it anyway

  • @tyrongaye yes, not all gay men have no anal sex...

  • @tyrongaye I feel that "believe" in anal sex was a very bad word choice on the part of this reviewer. It's true that not all gay men men engage in anal sex for one reason or another, but I do not think it usually has anything do do with their "beliefs". I agree with this reviewer that "Shelter" is an incredible gay-theme movie that does a cool job of fleshing out multiple characters within a complex storyline in a very entertaining way all at the same time. Everyone really should see this film!

  • @tyrongaye really. I'm gay and not into anal sex.

  • As the Saying is I may be Gay , but not after every man on the planet

  • I f*ckin love this movie.. it's awesome ^^

  • i wish they made more movies like Shelter

  • Its an amazing movie. I watched it with my sister and both of us shed a few tears. The ending is perfect!

  • I love the movie. When I first watched it I cried then I watch it again that night. Same feelings. Even straight people can feel the intimacy and love ...

  • i prefer shelter to brokeback mountain, its a better thought out story but i do love brokeback anyway. my brother is gay and we watched shelter together and we bothed loved it and we are closer than ever.

  • I agree with the eye contact / intimacy / affection between the guys. One of my favorite things about this movie.

  • I think you'll gonna like "Cachorro" (I think the english title is "Bear Cub"). If you can find it with english subtitles it's defenitely a must.

  • Wow.. you've convinced me. I'n gonna get it..

  • the beautiful pic i like the boy kiss boy but i'm girl

  • this is one of my favorite movies ever its nice to see a nice and clean ending for once in a GAY film

  • love ur thots n overall review!!! im gonna chck diz movie out.

  • I watched this film on your recommendation and I really liked it. Have you seen 'Maurice'? I think you might enjoy it. The entire film is available to watch on youtube. If you've not seen it, it's all about the relationship between two young men in England around 1910.

  • Loved this movie.

  • excellent review!

  • I watched this and Brokeback mountain. After seeing both, I have to agree; I also love movies with happy endings.

Shelter was just amazing, I was on the verge of tears of happiness. It warmed my heart to see such simple, true love.

Do you guys know about any other good LGBT movie?

  • Awesome review

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • u realy like to talk !:))

  • amazing.

  • I disagree entirely with your review of Tina Holmes. I think that her performance was brilliant in that movie and not "amateurish at times" at all. She has a rare simplicity that helps to drive her scenes, especially with those that have so few lines. An example of this would be wherein Zach and Jeanne discuss Shaun whilst Zach is taking a shower. In that scene if you notice the text, there really aren't a lot of lines, but both actors must rely on their subtext to drive the scene forward.

  • Im not gay, but after watching Brokeback Mountain, I wanted to watch another movie. I heard that Shelter was good so I watched it. It was pretty good. Thankfully, the ending was happy and didint make me depressed like Brokeback Mountain did.

  • @SonicFan2525 then I wouldnt advise that u watch Bangkok love story at all, believe me OR Burnt Money...gr8 movies but brings that teary part out of you

  • @SonicFan2525 What is it with straight guys saying "i'm not gay, but -Insert random thing that would be considered "gay" or gay related-"? Like you'd die if someone thought you were gay. I'm assumed straight sometimes and I don't freak or everytime I say a girl is beautiful I don't go "I'm gay, but she's HOT".

  • @Titanz91 hahahah your comment was so funny but I loved it cause it´s true, I mean there´s nothing wrong with a straight gay saying that this movie is good, he won´t be less man for saying so and like you said I´m gay but I don´t have to clear my "status" when I say that a girl is beautiful :)

  • @SonicFan2525 well im glad some straight people are starting to watch our movies lol maybe some will see some of our struggle they may not be able to in reality

  • @SonicFan2525 Brokeback mountain made me depressed too, I couldn't quite believe how shit and overrated it was nor that I'd wasted two fucking hours of my life sitting through that tedious protracted disingenous pile of stinking crap. But I know I'm in the minority here so I'll shut up.

  • Great review...I loved this movie, because there was a time when I felt like my sexuality was everything in me and this movie made me realize that there was more to me than just me liking girls...just like Zach.

    =]

thank you for posting this, this is a really beautiful movie and more people should watch it.

    thanks again

  • i love your`s comments totally

  • I know several gays who appear as straight as the characters in this movie, which is what made it refreshing. It's about a straighter gay, which hasn't really been explored in film, rather than the stereotypical gay that you see so often.

I also think in many films, gay films especially, TOO much of the plot is revolved around sex; this film does not, another reason its refreshing.

It's not perfect but it explored the subject of coming out in a new way which is what makes it a good film.

  • Does anyone know what type of bracelet Zach wears on his wrist? Or even how to make them? I've looked it up...no such luck.

  • yaaaa!!!! the movie is too damn short!

(hahahaha! is that too much?) i love this movie and i thought it left me hanging a little bit.. im just irritated!

    PEACE!

  • really enjoyed the movie, but i thought the ending was a little unrealistic. this is zach's first relationship and they go right to moving in with each other? hmmmmm. maybe i'm jaded, but i don't see this being a happily ever after kinda thing. i could be wrong, though.

  • this is a great movie

  • Also, a sidenote: I can see with your point about "Brokeback Mountain" but...my reading of "Brokeback Mountain" differs from most, in that I believe the characters are actually very heterosexual. To watch it as a movie about gay married men is to miss a lot of important things about it. I also thought it was very depressing my first time until the very end, with Ennis and his daughter in the trailer. That last (and I think uplifting) scene reveals so much and was my reason for seeing it again.

  • Good review...I have such a hard time with this movie, because I think it's trying to be a lot of things that make it ultimately kinda superficial to me, and I sense that the filmmakers did not want to make a superficial movie. I agree with a lot of your assessments of the characters, but I do disagree that they're not stereotyped; I think that, at the expense of breaking gay stereotypes, the film overshot and made them look rather straight. And yes, the movie is way too short and lacks depth.

  • @RichardParker88 Made them look rather straight? That makes NO sense at all. Just because they act like normal people, doesn't mean they can't be gay. The characters happen to be very masculine, they enjoy sports, they act like regular people, and they just happen to be like guys, and that's it. The way you act does NOT reflect your sexuality at all. That's like saying a lesbian can't be a lesbian if she enjoys make-up, shopping, etc.

  • @FinalDestination019 I think you miss the argument of my criticism; I'm not concerned with their masculinity (which, in status quo consensus culture *can* mean enjoying sports) but rather the way their masculinity is marketed. To use a different example: when "Brokeback Mountain" came out, it seemed much of the initial sentiment was that this could 'finally' be the "Gone With The Wind" gay man epic, when it's really anything but. It's about two completely STRAIGHT men who fall in love

  • @FinalDestination019 together, and that doing so does not result in either of them becoming gay. In "Shelter" we have two 'masculine' men who are gay, but rather than two men discovering their own intimacy and sexuality together, their eroticism of their relationship feels more like a gay man's fantasy of two straight men who happen to love each other. A more meditative film like "Brokeback Mountain" succeeds with this, but a straight up coming of age/coming out film like "Shelter" doesn't.

  • @FinalDestination019 So it's not about their "actions" but rather precisely that I simply don't entirely buy that they are gay - and Zach, the protagonist, in particular. Where is the sense of longing for the male body? Where is the desire FOR the masculine, not merely a So. Cal. exhibition of it? Bits of that male-on-male magic are somewhat present, but almost out of necessity - it is not an organic progression...ultimately, one of many underdeveloped aspects of an otherwise worthwhile film.

  • Eloquently reviewed. An A+ movie. I agree with you as one of the best gay theme movie. Now, I am getting my own copy. I can watch this over and over and over again.

    Thanks and Cheer♥

  • Firstly great review BRO..i'm all the way from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Good comment & billion of Yes these movies teaches us to be good to others. I dont means only for those who is gays. But truely and happy because in these world still have good ppl especially in helping other not matter who are they. We need these kind of guys to give good education, motivation and anything to helps them. I believed that many ppl out there dont like gays but time to time ppl accepting it.

  • Dang, I was truely amazed at how well you do a movie review. True talent. Do more of them. The slide show was great. Just wanted to suggest for you a better background rather than the bleak walls of your apartment.

  • I love this movie .... <3 ..... most beautiful movie ever ... and uhh god yeah .... Brokeback moun'ain is depressing ....

  • try to see this movie,..IN MY LIFE,...

  • This review pretty much nails why I loved this film. You also addressed one of my main concerns which was the film was too short. I especially thought some of Shaun's motivations should have been addressed with a bit more depth.

    Well done.

  • You know? I totally agree with you.

  • where from i download this movie free

  • If you like a feel good gay movie, catch Patrik 1,5. It's a Swedish movie now in limited release. It probably not going to DVD until the Spring. Recommended!

  • look at him when he says aaand :D

  • my coming out was very positive, not all families are so conservative. Have trends but not always so anti. Oprah was a big help with my mom ):) she is more pro gay then I am I think. Great review!

  • I love your commentary. Not to mention you are pleasing to the eyes Great review!

  • All the performances were spot-on and the cinematography and music was very good too. A very sweet, touching film. It's nice to come across a little gem like this.

  • Shelter is a true coming of age story.. and an inspiration for those fighting their feelings right now..

  • really great movie. one of the best love stroies gay/straight

  • i stumbled across the movie by pure accident, its a brillant movie, with a great story which is so important its grt it has a happy ending, i think that the other mentioned movie a question of love, is really good too, i do agree that it could have been longer in lenght but overall brillant film.

  • Then i think i'll be getting this one. I had to stop watching gay movies a while back because they just kept depressing me with the awful endings. I agree that the message it kept sending was that if you were gay then this will be how your life will end. That to me is just not right.

  • well I think the movie its great and the cast too they look real and played the roll very real I liked the way they speak, the acent even more shaun....

  • Its good but the acting is deficient. In my opinion one of the worst is Gabe´s brothers... Shawn?.

And in general they keep repeting the same thing because other´s line interrupt.

    Sorry for my english!.

  • Gadgetfreak84 is so cute!!!

  • This movie was good. But not as great as alot of other gay movies I've seen, still good though.

The only thing that I really liked was how it seemed real and how it ended with Cody. Wish it was longer though.

  • Ja, ja great review ! Havn't seen the movie, and still almost sure I agree very much with YOU :)

  • I have seen the film. Very nice.

  • an extra 15 to 20 minutes so you see cody grow-up to be gay and that really ends on a very positive note :-)

  • In the "backlot" section of the DVD, the writer/ director specifically says that this is not just a gay movie. What? No mention of Zach's artwork?

  • i agree with the memorable eye contact between Zach and Shaun. They got the chemistry and all. And yes, the movie feels too short. They should make it longer. Wether it's just a scene about Cody growing up or even just about Zach and Shaun dating.

  • ***SPOILER ALERT***

About him choosing between love and family, I loved that the movie ends with both, just as you hinted in the review. Zach and Shaun ending up together was wonderful, but the fact they adopted Cody made it great.

Also, the point about the Walkie-Talkie definitely foreshadows this ending considering all three of these characters use it. It is the one of the first items that connects them. Cody plays with it, and Zach and Shaun used to speak on it when they were young.

  • thanks for the review, you explain so well and i understand you're smart and clever,(hope to meet someone like you in my life!).

  • Jason, you may like "Patrik 1.5". Nice little Swedish film. It was on YouTube briefly, but pulled. May be available this fall. John

  • patrick 1.5 was AWESOME

  • Where did you see it? Very nice feel good movie. I really liked it. I hope it comes out on DVD soon. John

  • i saw it at QFest in Philadelphia this past July

  • I saw it on YouTube before they pulled it.

I am a sucker for happy endings! Loved it when the pick-up backed up near the end of the movie...

  • dude if you liked it stop calling it a gay-movie, it is a great movie, that's it!

  • You spoiled the end! JASON!!! hahaha, i'm kidding, but since it's a Gay movie i was expecting something like Brokeback as you mentioned. Anyway, i've been watching almost hero's and pop movies nowadays, but this was a nice and another great movie with this kind of theme, i just loved, it's simple, but is also awesome! There's one around here on Brazil comin'n out called "Do começo ao fim (a.k.a "from the start to the end" literally) if you have a chance, search something about! btw 5/5 review!

  • Wow, I must say, you are very well spoken. I saw this movie a little over a year ago and honestly....I didn't remember even remember that I watched the movie itself until I saw this.

Great movie, very realistic characters, and it was wonderful to see a happy ending (Just hope I get mine someday)

  • I enjoyed this review. Appreciate how well spoken you were.

  • you should definately make sure that you watch the film latter days if you havnt already seen it. gay movie with a great message and happy ending

  • i definitely agree with the fact that they could have made it longer to make the story better

  • I agree with your review about 95%, I thought the sex was tastefully done as well, it made the film a lot more romantic. Even though I wouldn't mine seeing more between the two just for kicks :)

The first time you said fag hag i was like wait what did he say?? But I got it the second time and i agree there too. Not having one in the film gave a more "manly" vibe to the film and it showed that not every gay man starts off with a "fag hag" when they start to come out of the closet.

  • Good review. I love love love this movie it is my favorite :D And you are so right about the eye-contact. It is real and says so much they don't even have to use words.

  • I just finished watching the movie and it was great! Thanks for the recommendation!

  • It is so easy to put down gays who are not straight acting and normal gay boy next store. I agree that gay stereo types are bad but to say that all Gays are the same and don't show their gayness isn't right! These gays were not around when gay guys walking down street and acted a little different than the average guy got the crap beat out them. It is like, "I accept you because you don't act out your gayness and are not out were everyone will know your gay! You have to study Gay History!

  • Imagine if stonewall hadn't happened.

  • Great Movie. Great Cast. Well told story.

  • I love this movie so very much as a straight girl I can say that this is my favorite movie and it has been for some time now. I first saw it about a year ago and have been in love with it since. I have watched it no less than 8 times <3

  • ahh i want to buy this movie but I'm afraid of what my family will say. My mom thinks it's very weird that i take interest in gay films because I'm a girl :p

  • you are right!.. eye contact!.. love the movie

  • Blockbuster use to have it in their stores but they have been slowly removing the gay movies for TV shows, video games and family movies..

  • so love the movie :)

  • Gay Stereotypes and hate? That raises a flag for me. When you say the two guys "are like everybody else" seems to imply that those gays who do fit stereotypes are somehow inferior?

Anal Sex is another charged issue you mention in a somewhat negative way. Anal sex is very pleasurable for men and women and sexual norms are socially constructed,.

Wile I agree with some points you make the others borderline auto-homophobic. Given the reality of dominant culture we gays tend to internalize this

  • View Shelter is like taking a glass of water on the hottest summer afternoon!

I also saw the detail that was not talked about love, the movie just felt the love. A look is enough to say everything. Because "we are not we say we are what we do."

The film was a wonderful experience.

Unfortunately in my country is not achieved yet, hopefully someone wants to bring.

  • I completley agree w/ you on pts. 3 &4 I loved how you could see their was a deep profound passionate love between them both by just seeing how they lovingly looked into each others eyes and just natrually loved being in each others presence. They didn't have to validate their love by saying " I love you" 10x thru out the movie.

  • The movie was great. It wasn't queer as folk kinda movie at all, which is another thing I liked about the movie. Gabe, Shaun's brother is sooo crazy (" Where's my princess big brother?")

    Must see

  • ok i agree with him to a extent and yes the movie is great and yes its really good because its not sterotipacol (spelt wrong) however i dont agree that the movie was to short it could have been longer but the movie is perfect as it tis but i dont get one thing whats with the not all gay men belive in anal sex thing? ive never heard that before

  • I love the movie and just good as you said with a nice happy ending.

  • I love it because the story didn't revolve around being gay. Nothing could make you guess that either Zach or Shaun is gay until 30 minutes into the movie where Shaun first kisses Zach. The story was about a classic martyr, Zach, who always considers himself lastly, and how he found someone that helped him out of the rut he was stuck in out of pure compassion. The fact that a relationship blossomed was sideline to the main story. No stereotypes and natural acting make this movie a classic.

  • I THINK THAT THE PEOPLE LOVE THIS MOVIE BECAUSE THE GAYS of this movie are very masculines, I mean they dont act like women, that is the reason why all type of people, women, men, even children watch this movie and they dont feel disgust

  • Yeah one of the great things about this movie is exactly what you pointed out: that it's a movie about a gay couple that actually ends on a high note!

Also, who doesn't love a hot blond surfer?
