  • i personally think that you do not have enough tone, because mozart needs more tone, and i think you played it a little too choppy and march like

  • bravo amigo

  • out of all the people that played this, yours is the only one i finished listening to because it sounded different! you played exactly what i was looking for! such a lively and beautiful sound ^_^

  • @sweetatomictangerine why thank you, that's very nice!

  • This is well played, the only thing that makes it sound harsh is the distortion coming from the Camera Mic. I bet if some one records you properly, then you'll see how good it can sound.

  • I am not a musician but a music lover and I love it!

  • it's hard to play Mozart but you did well.

  • tocas bien pero te falta mas practica

  • try to make more quiet your right hand in the first part ... but it's definitly a good work good !!! :)

  • wow..

  • Awesome! My teacher suggested this piece and your version has really inspired me to learn it, Ill be starting it soon. Top notch performance

  • i don't like to extend critique generally, because i feel that a pianist's performance reflects their personality, and who is one to judge another's?

your playing is technically very good and accurate

i do, however, feel that this piece begs to be played just a bit faster..

it can be a bit 'cockier'

i am able to play the first and third movements of this sonata myself, so i can truly appreciate your performance

you really nailed the ending- excellent stuff

  • Excelente amigo!!! Bravisimo!!!

  • you make it sound too easy, hahaha!

  • This is amazing!

  • WOW,man that is amazing!!!!! i can sort of play it...

  • I actually think this is really well played, dynamics and all. I think it's a pity the recording conditions make the piano sound a little jarring (especially the louder parts), but on the whole your playing is irreproachable in my opinion.

  • @aches27 heartfelt thanks!

  • you have the technique down perfect. just a bit more... expression? you are clearly very talented though :) keep playing!

  • First great playing enjoy listening to this every time

Two things I noticed though, and personal preferences:

    1. Dont like the way you arpegiate the chords at 1:40.

    2. You know the awesome driving power that has been developed by the time 4:15 has been reached? It's a shame you don't carry it through the small ascending part at 4:15 and back into the opening theme, during which you may want to reduce the power a little. For me this is far more satisfying, would like see you try this in a vid

  • in love

  • Clearly you make a great effort of keeping every note clean and understandable, therefore I think it is well played. But... it lacks the sound of Mozart, it´s just plain, no regulation or changes in dynamics, overall a student performance. You should hear the mitsuko uchida´s interpretation here on youtube.

  • @emcafif44 yeah, I sort of get what you mean. A lot of the absence of dynamics comes from the recording quality but anyway I've looked at it recently and really wondered if this was actually me playing. It's like the opposite of my piano personality. I was having a hard time when I learned this, teachers telling me to do the opposite of what I wanted etc. The result is something which feels atrophied.

  • @RobinLSL hey don´t get me wrong, you are a great pianist and I really enjoy listening to your recordings; this one in particular (first movement) sounds more "amateur" than all of your other pieces. I played this sonata last year and was very difficult for me also. I never imagined that this piece would get me into such troubles. I'm still working on it, even though I[m playing other sonatas for my repertoire

By the way, I´m 19 and I study piano at the National Conservatory in Mexico City.

  • @RobinLSL I would recommend trying to find as many areas to exaggerate the dynamics. I couldn't feel the the phrases because you played the whole song in one dynamic. It could be the piano itself. My dad's yamaha isn't as good as my mom's steinway. (Steinways are incredibly expensive -.-) I'd try to play the left hand much softer because it sounds like its a banging snare drum near the introduction and recapitulation phases of the sonata(anywhere else if you know what I mean) good job though!

  • @emcafif44 Agreed.

  • @emcafif44

I thought this was a really good effort and shows great promise. I wish people would stop telling others that they don't play as well as, for example, Mitsuko Uchida (capital M and capital U). This kid is obviously a student not a seasoned professional so of course it's a student performance.

  • Wonderful. I have no talent to play so i enjoy listening... Wonderful.

  • how long did that take to learn because im learning that to right now.

  • excellent playing man! think this just inspired me to play this piece as my classical selection for the fall semester. how long have you been playing? how long did it take for you to learn this movement?

  • pure and very sweet .

  • Good job man.

  • Excelente!!!!

  • LOL, at 2:14 looks like he raises from the dead if you repeat it like 3 or 4 times

  • what is Allegro Maestoso?

  • fast and majestic

  • Allegro means a fast tempo... it has between 120 and 168 beats per minute

Maestoso means majestically, according to my teacher

  • sssttttooooppppp!!!!!

  • Muy bien!!!! very good! :)

  • Bravo Bravo :) I enjoyed very much :)

  • excellent ! but , u still must do a lot of praticse . especially for ur LH . u still must practsiing kid . but u have a excellent and great characteristic . NICE JOB !!!

  • you don,t heard really the music....your left hand, your dynamics and pedal are not professional but you could it do better!!!!!!!!!

  • NICe job! You play it A LOT better than I do, both in expression and technique...thank you for this. I hope you don't mind if I steal some of your ideas...=)

  • Your right hand plays beautifully! However, your left hand seems dull and sometimes overpowering. Keep in mind that even though they are the same cords, you don't have to play them all in the exact same fashion.

  • check out glenn gould and pick the speed up a bit when your ready

  • i'm going to learn this >=]

i like the theme in this piece :)

  • ummm i'm marrying you

  • ur playing is great !. de speed is just nice ! not too fast or too slow!. PERFECT ! :D

  • Personally, i found this piece refreshing. Most pieces i've heard are usually too fast. Yours is a lovely interpretation. It shows you actually enjoy playing this piece and are still able to continue with a constant tempo unlike some other players who only focus on the speed of the song (: Cheers.

  • Thank you!

  • Excellent technique. I'm re-learning this piece to play in something( I'm not a professional pianist, bear in mind). It seems to me that there's more feeling hiding in there, and certainly Allegro Maestoso is a relative term. When I think of how to approach this piece, I remember that this is one by the greatest opera composer born on this planet. I think there's more reflection and irony in that piece between exposision and recap.

Whatever that's worth. Take that for what it's

  • Overall it's good, I can see a lot of potential here! You definitely got something!

Now, I suggest you work a lot on dynamics, especially left hand dynamics (which was too loud overall). More pronounced voicing (especially in the left hand), clearer, fuller, legato, more nuance, and please, don't play that harsh! this is not a Beethoven piece! Be more gentle! :)

  • Good Performance~!!!!!!

  • i love this peice!! u are fantastic!! :)

  • very good!you play the notes were so clearly

  • lol wow...ur good haha

  • Bravo!

  • I'm currently working on this piece for my jurys in university, and on first hearing I felt this was was very sloppy and unstylistic. But to be honest, after listening to it a bit longer I actually really love how you've interpreted this piece!

  • Nice Hairstyle. Quite An Uplifting Mozart Piece

  • This is wonderful! Thank you so much for a great video. I have a question: do you use the pedal during the closing sections in, that is, when your right hand plays the chords and your left hand plays the sixteenth-note run? If yes how do you use it to produce such clear yet legato sound? I'm having a bit of a trouble here...

  • I can't say that I really remember how I used the pedal at that particular moment or that I actually even tried to do something special with it, but my guess would be that you'd want to use it extremely lightly and change it very often (at least every beat).

  • well it was pretty well played.. i liked some parts very much and in some parts i could not hear part of the notes and it was a bit of a mess.. but ultimately a pretty good job dude! but i wonder is this your best performance? probably not..

  • One thing that I have learned making videos like this is that you it's NEVER your best performance. Making videos is very different from, say, playing in a concert, the only thing going on in your mind is "I mustn't make mistakes" and I find it way more stressful.

So yeah, saying this isn't my best wouldn't be a stretch!

  • Just incredible to listen to that, near-perfect-played great creation of Mozart.

Thank you very much for uploading.

I just began to play Piano and hope someday i will play such masterpieces myself. (I am 16 i know its pretty late to begin to play Piano, but its great to hear the music you play yourself^^)

  • I started playing the piano when I was 16. Now I am playing this mozart's piece. I am 24 now and it is never late. two month ago I started with the viola. Good luck

  • Thank you so much. Even if I may even sound sarcastic and even if your message was just 4 sentences, I realized how true your words are and how I don't need to give up or rather, I shouldn't give up.

It might be a small message, but you seriously brought hope back to my passion in music.

  • Good~

    wonderful!

  • i am say just wonderful piece rodinl thanks for the music so sweet

  • Robn, You are an exceptional player. I tried to send you an email telling you how gifted you are. You get the essence of Mozart.. don't worry about being technically fast.. the message gets lost in translation with speed. Yours is the best. Thank you for sharing with us all. Jenny

  • hey do u think u can send me the music sheet?

  • I don't have it on my computer.

Buy it for real! It's definitely worth it and nicer to the editors.

  • Thanks man. I agree that there are some people who are just waiting to bash pretty much every person on Youtube.

  • very facile technique but almost no expressive timing or phrasing! listen to some recordings and see how they do it.

  • yes, need more practise on it!! anyway, bRavo~

  • fiercer! more intense! your performance was good, but failed to capture the extreme agony mozart must have been feeling at the time this piece was composed i think

  • You know, it's really hard to do that sort of thing with Mozart, cause a few months before I recorded this, everyone was telling me "This is Mozart! Restrain yourself! This piece is not about war!" etc. That's why I then played it in a non-agonizing way afterwards. But maybe someday I'll record it again and actually make it fierce! :)

  • It is very frustrating when different critics have such diverse opinions- I have finally just decided to let them stick it and interpret pieces how I want! If you play a piece in a way that you understand it, people more often than not respect you for that,if nothing else! The gist is, find how you like the piece, and be completely arrogant in your delivery, because if it's convincong you're half-way there!

  • i agree that artistic freedom is important :). i believe that there is an argument to made for historically informed performance, however. this piece was composed in paris around the time that mozart's mother died (possibly while she was dying in the next room!). i think one of the reasons why this piece is so loved is that it shows precisely an aberrant, "unrestrained" side of mozart that is rarely seen (also remember this is one of only two minor sonatas... unusual indeed). just my h.o. :)

  • oops, this was supposed to be a response to one of the comments below

  • long live mozart

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    eso es!!!

  • cute!

  • cute!

  • I really think, that you should paly the keys more softly, more tone with less effort^^

your bass is often ,for me , too penetrant, calm it down...

    Nevertheless well done!

    good job !

  • Your interpretation is superb! Note perfect!

  • Thanks!

  • where are you from?

  • Gah... when you play it it sounds so very very awesome.

then i go and try to play it and it takes me 15 minutes.

not fair. u r the best.

  • OMG, I love your play!! I'm gonna subscribe your vidoes. awesome job

  • technically close to perfect it was very clean but i think you could have done a lot more with the dynamics which makes this piece sound a lot harder and more impressive

  • very nice. very clear and precise. a bit of critique though. your grace noters are too choppy. try listening to Glenn Gould's performance of this song. it is a little fast but his style is impeccable. if your style is more expressive, then you can sacrifice some precision without hurting the song. and try more dynamics!! it was a little samey throughout. but overall your technique is great.

  • ahh! ive played this :) good job.

  • well done! i appreciate what you've played. the sound is fairy clear. You played better than me. ps: u look pretty handsome!

  • 1min 29 ish, i always had trouble with that part too... was good overall, great sonata definitely.

  • At first I thought this was going to be terrible, I thought you were too heavy on the left hand, but when you got to the end of the first page with those arpegios in the left hand - pretty nice.

  • i'm learning to play this at the moment. i think that was amazing! x

  • Robin, your show inspires me. Million thanks!

  • awesome job overall...hmm, I disagree with highlandsh, as a pianist, I think your left hand can be a little softer, as to place more emphasis on your melody right hand, especially in the beginning. But fantastic technique overall! love it.

  • Bravo!

  • Nice work with the left hand. Isn't it a blessing that Mozart left us with music through which we can learn so much about ourselves?

  • awesome, dude! it looks really fun to play once you learn it. marvelous performance! how much have you practiced this?

  • I wonder what the equipment is you use to record this image and sound?

  • Thanks for the comments!

I just use my sister's camera to record this... It's a Sony Handycam, probably pretty standard stuff.

  • very nice video, nice to watch and nice to hear

    thanks

  • I'm working in this piece and watching this has really help me. Superb interpretation.

  • On the block chord left hand you have to do much more crescendo goes up and down even that still good preformance keep practice

  • wow, that was good :)

i looked for this because i heard it in 'la meglio gioventu', and i wanted to see someone playing it again. Great! Thank you

  • aaah wooow!!! this is really really great!!! :D oh my... jez, you technique and everything is GREEAT!! this is one of mozarts absolute hardest sonatas, and you do it sooo well!! ah great dude :D :D :D

  • Thanks! I really appreciate this :D

  • HAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaa ! J'ai loupé le premier commentaire ici ! ...

    Great ! Great ! Clap Clap !

    (5 Stars ! hihi)

  • Thank you for a splendid performance.

When you play the chord of the left hand like a woodwind instrument, it becomes better.
