  • Because M. Bison (Mike Bison, which rhymes with Mike Tyson) is his original Japanese name.

  • Way back when, Capcom was afraid of being sued by Mike Tyson for having a character that looked like him, and had a similar name. To go around this, they rotated three names. Who we know as M. Bison is Vega in Japan, Balrog is M. Bison, and Vega is Balrog.
