@sherlyjusttoday Just gotta let go sometimes... We got one life and i don't think god want's us to be unhappy and not express our feelings through love affection and sensuality and music. No matter what type of music it is :)
Oh My God finnally i found and know title this song thanks for upload this, have a long time i find this. First time i was hear this sound and note when i saw mandarin movie Shanghai Affairs that showing dramatic, and tragic story of traditional fighting chinnese by actor Donie Yen, once again thanks u.
this is an amazingly peaceful piece, you can enjoy a certain japanese folklore in the melody that is just great! amazing music and i love it... i listen to it every night to go to sleep
@beatrizgrb Actually the name of the song is Forbidden colours. Merry Christmas Mr. Lawerence is just the name of the movie it was played in. Many people make this mistake. If you want to learn more about the song good Forbidden Colours :)
Just to make a point - The tune is called "merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" not "Merry Christmas to Mr Lawrence" and is the title and soundtrack name to the movie which included David Bowie. The track was created by Ryuichi Sakamoto and was not a piano piece - that came after.... As for the vocal version, that was created later and was a collaboration between Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian.
After I saw Merry Chrismas Mr. Lawrence and heard Forbidden Colors I had a deep though...If love comes from the soul, then why do most religion judge those who love the same gender? Isn't the soul the true essence of God?
PS: God blessed those who are capable to love...(I wish I could feel love)
How can some people bring themselves to write such hate below music of this beauty and transcendence? I feel for them, because this music has a humbling and inspiring impact on me which must be completely lost on somebody writing "F*** you :)"
@gogogo411 The name of the piece is "Forbidden Colours" and was composed by Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto. It was the theme from the Nagisa Oshima film Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (in certain territories retitled Furyo) and was first released on the soundtrack album. "Forbidden Colours" in 1983.
@TimmothyBrown no, the piano tune is "Merry Christmas to Mr.Lawrence," the main theme of movie which shares the same title. However, the version which another musician (i think his name was sylvian or smthing) added lyrics is "forbidden colour." also, the accompaniment of "forbidden colour" is not even piano version....
@TimmothyBrown , in other words, this piece, the original piano version is called merry christmas to mr lawrence, and the vocal version with lyrics and accompaniment with who-knows-what instrument is called forbidden colour.
I discovered Ryuichi's music by picking up a random CD of his, "Cinemage" during a trip to Vancouver BC last year. The first song was this one and it blew me away. Now that I am back home in Toronto, I listen to this CD and particularly this song, it instantly evokes memories of my time in BC coupled with the magic of this song there is something intangible to this music
Thought the name of this piece was Merry Christams Mr . Lawrence...I guess that just the name of the movie that this song was made for, and its actual name its forbidden colors? ;o
i think this picture has a deep nostalgic significance to roughpd. it could be some wife/girtlfriend/sexual mate that he longed and want to be immortalized in a free loading site such as youtube and so he posted it. every thing happens for a reason.
This is just wholly the wrong image for this music. "Forbidden Colors" is from a novel by Yukio Mishima, and it refers to homosexual love-- the "colors" the artist sees but which are forbidden to him. It inspired this music for "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence _because_ of that homosexual subtext. The stripper picture? it almost seems an attempt to "silence" the voice of what this music is about.
@snoggledoggy Maybe it's a sexy man's leg? A guy in drag? Why not? Aren't we all getting a little lost in our projections of what and who the image represents?
The "Forbidden" in the title does lend a certain vibe of transgression. There's no reason, of course, that the transgression should be sexual in nature. But, when you think of something that is forbidden, but also vibrant (like a color) and gentle, intimate, and sweet, what comes to mind? All things considered, I think it's not a bad picture, evoking desire and mystery but, perhaps, presaging the dark turn at the end of the tune with its suggestions of a nostalgic post coitum triste.
I agree with @IcedBlueTea the picture doesnt really resemble, but its about the music anyway. I imagine something alot more transcendental. Typical i know. But hey i guess it might be the use of the pentatonic approach to the melody thats giving a very asian vibe. Maybe along the line of Geisha Seduction would be more fitting?
why and I say why again, some people need always to post negative comments instead than enjoing beauty and harmony in such videos and, at least, say "thank you for posting" ?
Apparently Miyazaki and Murakami was inspired by Sakamoto's music. They should all collaborate for the ultimate Japanese bitter sweet dreamlike multimedia project!
@dieudonneMC To be polite, it depends on your opinion.
To be frank, your comment was only six words in length and it annoyed me profoundly.
No matter how pleasurable sex may be to you, it has lost it's meaning in the world. How many teenage pregnancies are there in the World today? It's supposed to be intimate, between two true lovers bonded by marriage.
So, technically speaking, because to me most sex has become obsolete, there are countless things more beautiful.
That's a rather strange way of thinking. That would be like saying you don't like music anymore because of all the electronic/autotune crap that is made these days. Just because some people have a loose moral towards sexual interaction does by all means not mean that sexual interaction in itself is not a wonderful concept. Honestly I couldn't give less of a crap what sexual interaction means to others, to me it still means to be intimate with someone I truly care about.
@donkeybrainsify i don't agree with donkeybrainsify even if his point makes sense =) . It's not "sex" in itself that IcedBlueTea thinks doesnt fit the video, it's the image... It just shouts : "sex shop" because of the pantyhose. If love should fit this song, then it should be love, not some pantyhose that nobody cares about.
@donkeybrainsify I will be honest: I only know that your comment has to do with questions of morality and sexuality. Now, personal beliefs aside, fundamental morality is pretty much impossible to define. What this means for humans: we will go about our lives in different ways, some with justification + the resulting self satisfaction, and try to convince ours of our aquired "truth". Fuck truth - not in perceived reality, but immaterial meaning. Sex is what you make of it, like everything else.
@donkeybrainsify ah but what if there are no others that shair your view good sir ??? It would apear you have a healthy, sercure, amd alturist view of sex no wonder your from holland. however i fear this point of view is fewer and fewer as of late. sex sells and this cheapens it to the point were you have a six year old wearing a mini-skirt!
Although sex is a thing that can only be done with another person, it is very much an egocentric activity. The focus is mostly on your own feelings, especially around the climax moment, I have never thought about anyone other than myself on that moment.
But seriously now, what if somebody did not share my views? What IS your point here? I have nothing to do with those people since you can usually tell them apart from those who are more serious about intimacy.
@donkeybrainsify sorry about delay been on holiday ! my point good sir is one about sociaty and were it is headed i don't know about holland but it seems to me more and more people r in the former group instead of the latter and the more people in a group the more people in a group until there is no-one in your group! no son or daughter to shair your values when your gone there is no-one in your group my point is one of evolution....... conform or die !!
I'm sure it will not develop as dramatically as you described. In my lifetime there will be plenty of serious people to go about. And it just so happens that I have already found the right girl for me, who is also serious about intimacy. And just because I prefer it this way, does not mean I condemn other people for doing it another way. I think I could enjoy sexual interaction without deeper meaning as well, but just to a much lesser degree...
@IcedBlueTea I agree the foto has nothing to do....but you say that the song is much more beautiful than sexual interaction..... My friend you should find a new Partner...something does not go well there.... there is nothing more powerful then the moment when my Girl and I loose each other in our arms...Body and Soul!!! we create Paradise...we are Paradise.... I><I
@ReanimaterR What? Remove my post just because someone comes along and tells me to?
No. I don't think I will, thank you very much. And it would do you good to learn how to respect another person's opinions and not think that just because you're so amazing and wonderful and perfect in every conceivable way people will do what you say at the drop of a hat.

Because if you watch the movie, you'll understand.
This person is actually a guy. True love doesn't have to be between a man and a woman, true love can be even greater..

Have a nice day~ :)
