I'm not religious anymore, but this particular Christmas carol always reminds me of my Grandma. She was the superintendent of our church when I was little, and come Christmas time, I would beg her to pick this song as one of the songs we would sing in church because I loved it so much.

you cant compare mariah and celines version becuase their both different. they both sing soflty and belt out on the song i just find Mariahs has a better climax and she sings it better imo

In my honest opinion you cant compare the Mariah version with Celine's;their both sung in completely different styles. Mariah molds the song with her Heavenly voice & octaves while Celine's Angelic voice stays on the traditional route. I would have to say I love Mariah's just a tad bit more though ;)

There are no rules how the song should be sung unless they keep the right tune, melody and music. Mariah has two ways of singing, she whispers and she sings in full voice strength and both suit her verry well. I still believe that Mariah song is more touching, more spiritual, more angelic and more beautiful. Thanks for your comment though :)

@amerkhoury I guess we all have our own personal opinions. As I've stated previously I prefer this version. I like the choir in the background. That for me makes it feel like a real Christmas carol. I'm not saying Mariah doesn't sing it good, but her version just doesn't make me get into the Christmas spirit like this one does. But good to see a different point of view

@Gettinbuzz Mariah nor whispers nor does anything you say. She is an ARTIST, she sings the way SHE WANTS, both artists are different. Mariah adds more personality to her music, its why she is more interesting, and why she always got a lot more attention than Celine, look at Celine now, her songs always flops whilst everyone sees Mariah as an icon for Christmas time, her track AIWFCIY is considered a classic along with the greats such as Bing Crosby. Celine is just another diva that oversings.
