Never heard this one before. Great tune. I love the beginning, but everything in this tune i like, guitar is awesome, the horns are fantastic, and then there is Stevie, what can you say ? he's awesome.
@johnniewalker23 This is SUPER LATE, but I think it's Uriel Jones. It says on the discography that Stevie Wonder was playing with the Funk Brothers for "Sugar."
Astonishing!!! Art at it's best... I can't help but ta, think of Michael Jackson shaking a leg to this bad boy... BOY LOOKA HERE!!! If you know like I know, ya'lla do somthing about dat gash ya left onna dance flo (Cuttin a rug) Whatcha know bout dat youngstas... Thank ya Stevie, for inviting listeners to the music in your mind. LOVE Ya!!!
@johnniewalker23 Well, we know that a lot of the Funk Bros. tracks had two drummers playing simultaneously, there is a good chance that this is what we are hearing, Pistol and Uriel. Maybe Stevie and one of them. I think this would explain the accented kick hits that make this song so significant.
Sugar, Sugar How I wanna be your baby boy Sugar, Sugar How I wanna be your play toy Got no time for every woman Thinking that shes looking fine Got no pockets full of money no no no A fox would just be wasting her time All I got is good good loving And good loving doesnt have to find Hey! Sugar, Sugar How I wanna be your baby boy Sugar, Sugar How I wanna be your play toy
this is the first time that ive heard this album thanks jw 23 the drums are crazy tight stevie has today made me cry smile and now left me speechless just a genius peace

My memory of this song will forever be riding in a car at 5:00 AM with this crazy brilliant guitarist singing this at the top of his lungs with pure unadulterated joy...
Do you not recognize the dramatic change from his 60's stuff to his 70's stuff?? This album was definitely still of the exciting, triumphant 60's vibe, as where Superstition (only 2 years later) and such - had the very sleazy, darker 70's vibe. He of course helped define the 70's music scene, I guess I'm just not fond of 70's music in general - it's always seemed like such a let-down after the ubiquitous musical brilliance of the 60's... even better clothes too, haha!
I wish records still sounded like this.

johnniewalker23 1 year ago 5
@johnniewalker23 I head that the drums were actually an uncrdited Bernard "Pretty" Purdie but it sounds like Stevie to me.

No we don't. Tried to find info on this song but wasn't able to. My guess is it's the Funk Brothers providing those licks.

@MavericksJSF You're probably right. I have a feeling it's not Stevie on the drums though, cuz I'd have figured if it was we'd know about it.
