  • the U.S. had/has? a cooker like this that would fit under their canteen and work with their mug. but theirs had no platform to put fuel,so you would have to put your hexamine e.t.c. on the ground! thats because they are retarded.

  • is the crusader cup free from pvc my cup( issue in 2010) smell funny and my water also has a funny taste so i stop using it. brought my crusader base on this review and others

  • hey mike i did some research after i got my 1st kit. and it looks your plastic bottle and plastic cup is the copy not the bcb original. the crusader part of your kit is real though. i know this because i got a kit with the cheap copy plastic bottle and cup so ended up buying the original. i took the fake copy bottle and cup into work just to use in work and then bought the real kit. i found the real kits dont come with the teflon coated crusader just a standard stainless steal crusader. cheersm8

  • Mike looks like you own BCB with the amount of there kit you have. Great company excellent kit great demo cup good for the ration pack meals as well.

  • What does BCB stand for.

  • where do you buy the greenheat from

  • Awesome cooker, my life is now complete. ;)

  • hi mate, great review! can you tell me about how much cooking time you get from one sachet of green gel approx? cheers rob.

  • @robfordomjones I get about 10mins

  • Hi Mike, I' ve watched and enjoyed many of your videos- I find when using greenheat it leaves a nasty residue on my crusader and doesn' t seem to be doing the job as quickly as meths, have you found this or have I gotten a bad batch?

  • @davidkenedy you do get a residue in the cooker, its impossible to burn the whole thing dry but it works fine for me, have you got a good metal lid? the plastic one is not that good.

    mike

  • @wall2rockclimber Good idea, i'll make one in work next time the boss isn't looking :)

  • @davidkenedy it will make a lot of difference mate, everybody laughed when i melted my plastic lid to my cup but it just happens now i know it aint just me lol!!

  • What does PLCE stand for?

  • @leejones001 personal loading carrying equipment

  • I bought one on the strength of this review cheers ;)

  • watch out with that multi-tool i had the exact same one and the knife blade broke off completely won't be buying gerber products anymore

  • @Killahofosho I had a gerber suspension, kinda a cheaper gerber multi tool but I broke the plier off of it. I was just squeezing hard on something... I actually forget what... and I heard little rice crispy metal sound and half of the pliers just snapped off. I'm not some weight lifter or something so no reason for me to be able to break the metal parts apart like that with my bare hand.

  • @bwinterb gerber doesn't tell anyone what kind of metal they use on there products so your probably buying high grade aluminum. i feel that with the lack of knowledge they provide people should just stop buying there products untill they tell us what were buying

  • were you in the infantry or lancers or some other thing

  • @TheOctoman34 yes i was in the infantry.

  • my dads got that stove and the gell leaves a splat patern so we named it the boggy stove

  • i find with the gel that it is hard to light with a striker so i use the packet as tinder, apart from the plastic lid which i don't find very good (they should make a steel one with no hole) other than that i cannot fault the system and use it as my main stove when out in the field. Also a big thank you for taking the time to make these short videos they are very helpful and informative

  • nice vid

one thing is you dont need 2 mugs. get rid of the plastic one.

also what regiment did you serve in?

  • Great Vid thanks! Just wondering if your plastic mug fits tight onto the water bottle? Looks like it does, and takes slight effort to remove. Just got my kit and the mug just falls off the bottle if tipped to the side?

  • I ordered a few things off this guys site based on your advice. A real stand up dude in terms of service, communication and getting my stuff out virtually the same day that I ordered it. He also had items that nobody else seemed to have which made it even better. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks for the tip Mike!

  • I ordered that base unit to use with solid fuels, it works with all size of cups and pots too, not just that specail cup.

But my question is, if the fuel pouch also burns, then can't you just cut a big slice in one side of the pouch and burn it all together rather than throwing the pouch on the fire afterwards?

  • whats the rollbag on the floor like? i have heard that they arent too good at keeping water out, at least that brand,

    is it true?

  • You should do a review of the Swedish Army Trangia cook kit, the price is around 12.00 complete and looks far more flexible than the crusader job.

  • Can't help thinking BCB screwed up making the lid from plastic, I'd much prefer a stainless one.

  • @reddog694uk - I agree. It really limits the use to cookers. I suppose they assume the majority of the time that would be the case.

  • Too heavy, mate.

I'll stick with the US canteen, cup, and stove.

  • probably so but it can take a beating and is near on bomb proof, i can say that the US is not as good, infact i swapped a few bottles/cups with your troops on tour as they knew the build quality was good.

    merry xmas

    mike

  • it is a great bit of kit,i dumped the plastic cup and just stuck abit of black insulating tape around one edge of the metal cup, that way u can drink it straight from the cooker

  • just be careful that when used in the fire it will melt the tape.

    good luck mate

    merry xmas

  • It is an excellent set - I used one for two months on an expedition to the Amazon. Don't bother with the plastic mug though. Bombproof kit.

  • I like more Esbit cooker and Brit army aluminium mess tin.

  • Thank for posting this, great cook set. I am from the old school, we made a stove out of a can, and used a heat tab to cook with. I do wish we had the Crusader cook set, and the green stuff..

  • Just brought one of these from Hennie Haynes, but can be found cheaper on the net.

Excellent piece of kit, boiled a tin of chunky scotch broth in under 9 minutes.

Wholly recommend this item for hikers, backpackers and anyone who spends time out of doors....i also take it to work so i can have a hot meal instead of sarnies.

  • Can you tell em wheres a good place in the UK to do some wilderness camping ? cheers good video 5 stars!

  • the moorland, new forest but my favirot is just alsond the coast path and on the beaches.

i found it hard 2 but keep looking:)

  • i am looking for one of these and dont want to spend more than £15 i am looking at the webtex one, have you tried this and for the price would you recommend it

  • hi there, well for that money the webtex would suit you but it is small compared to the bcb one and just about fits the 58 pattern bottle

  • Great videos. How much does this whole kit way? Cheers.

  • including the pouch, bottle(empty),plastic cup, bcb metal mug and cooker stand it weighs about 1kg or under. hope this helps, its such a good kit no need for much else.

    mike

  • That helps a lot thank you. That's not so much weight. Also, you refer several times to your other videos reviewing the crusader and the web-tex canteen, but I can't find them. Could you post a link? I don't know why I can't see them in your videos. Thanks.

  • just a quick question, if you wanted to keep your mug clean without using the green heat gel, could you scoop some coals from a fire and put them in the oven thingy? would those work?

  • Hey Mike, did you say how long the gel satchet burns for. I was wondering if it could be used in a small container inside the US Army Issue Canteen Cup stove unit. Like maybe an Altoids container. I already have the canteen kit but would like to use the Green Gel if it is possible to be useful with US issue canteen cook set. I like the idea of nontoxic burning gel and the burnable package that it comes in.

  • hi there,

the gel sachet burns for around ten minutes, i have used it in a small cat tin to use with a meths stand, so it will definatly work.

    all the best

    mike

  • Does the gel leave any residue in the cup after burning or does it completely dissipate? How about weight? nice vid. something to consider.

  • yes the gel leaves a crusty residue but it can be scraped out and buried as it is biodegradable, they weigh a couple of ounces each.

    hope this helps

    mike

  • Brilliant review thx

  • that is sooo awesome but i was wondering how much the entire kit weighs

  • im thinking of getting this, how long does it take for the fuel to stop burning and cool down? Great videos

  • Can you use a meths burner in stead of the gel? ie:Trangier type.

  • im affraid not unless you rigged up some sort of platform for the mug to be raised, using tent pegs or something. i will try it and let you know.

    mike

  • very detailed vid' mike, i almost bought the webtex version! but this has changed my mind, thanks for the info

  • nice one Mike ,im still using my old mess tin and lid.

  • well they work just abit big for me, hey they issue them to soldiers cant be bad

  • how fast can you pack it together again?? (meaning how fast does it get cold enough to handle and pack?)

    othervise nice vid!

  • it takes between 2-4mins to cool down it was made for the forces so it has to be quick

  • Pecisely what i had in mind :-)

Thanks for the vid and for the reply mate :-)

  • hi mike

ive got one and they are really gd for when your on the move great video's keep them up

  • Great Video Mike. I am going to get one of those hopefully soon.

  • Were is stoneage bushcraft?

  • i am based in outer london but courses are run in the cairngorms(in winter) and in either Epping or new forest

  • Nice video. Please speak up or get a remote mic.

  • Whoa, that would be about $85 plus $10 shipping and whatever extra to ship to the US.

I have the US setup; Canteen pouch, cup, canteen, stand stove, and I added an esbit stove. It was around $30 to $35 all together. I'd get the crusader cook set in a heart beat if it was around $60. I'm going to have to wait for a good deal.

How much room do you have to store extras in the pouch? Thanks for the video.

  • you dont get much room but i can get a LMF spork and 5 sachets of gel in it plus a bit of aluminum for a lid.

    mike
