  • interesting video and very informative

  • love the video really good

  • really informative and interesting

  • Your video is a favorite on Manama

  • @codycalhoun13 Nurse should be bare below elbows while taking smear.

  • Don't let this video put you off! They don't always use the metal speculum. Request/Ask for a plastic speculum (they are much smaller) and they don't need to be opened much. If you have a good nurse, it will be done in a matter of seconds.

  • I had my first smear yesterday. It wasn't that bad. Having someone look at your bits, yes. It wasn't the most pleasant of things and I did bleed a lot (that was because my cervix surface was abnormal, and atleast now they can find out why.. had I not gone I would have never known). It's not that bad girls. I'd rather 5 minutes of discomfort than a lost lifetime.

REMEMBER TO HAVE YOUR SMEAR TEST.

  • Alright, so I've seen alot of comments of confused girls "So it is painful? Ima wait." DONT WAIT. you need this done for your own safety.. It depends on the person weather it hurts or not... FToniS, if you had pain like that, it is a desiese, not bad. its just where women have alot of pain while having sex, or anything that is inserted into their vagina, there is a treatment for it, though I can not remember the name of the illness.

  • We should all thank George Papanicolaou. Founder of the Pap test.

  • I've just come back from a failed smear test - i.e. the nurse couldn't even get up to the cervix because I was in so much pain. She tried twice. First time it was with a standard size speculum and the second time she used a smaller one. The second time was so painful I shouted out in agony and actually cried. I normally have a fairly high pain threshold! (I dislocated my elbow last month, which was nowhere near as painful.) Any tips on what I could do?

  • @FToniS Hi Hun- it's not not the most pleasent of things but I had that same problem. Request the small plastic disposable speculum. You need to take deep breaths and it helps to focus on the ceiling, or close your eyes (thats what I did). There is a slight pain as they open the speculum (but taking samples of your cells is a matter of secons). Deep breaths! Once you get it done you dont have to go back for 3 years :)

  • @FToniS Oh my God, that's the reason why i am here too. I failed my first test today as the nurse couldn't get up to my cervix though she used a small speculum. Have you managed to get urs done now? I am really scared now, the pain is normal right? I really don't know what to do.. any advice would be great.

  • It's interesting that jealousy was mentioned, this could be true and probably is but many women would feel uncomfortable for a man to do it and might prefer a female.

  • is this painful?

  • I've got to go and have my first one :(

  • I always take diazepam before my smears that helps and I have a tiny speculum so I hardly feel them now. I dislike them but better than ending up like Jade Goody who died only aged 25 2 years ago

  • I did not like my smear test.. My body did NOT like a bristled q-tip thing being inserted into my cervix. It was the most awkward, burning sensation I'd ever had. >:@

  • I've had a few of these, the best thing you can do is concentrate on your breathing. Deep breaths help you to relax. Also, thinking of something else is a good idea - going through your times tables or counting in a foreign language, or thinking about what you have to get when you go shopping later! It's not pleasant, but it shouldn't be painful.

If you are nervous, tell the Dr/nurse. They will do what they can to help you stay calm.

  • @MissLindzerella so it is painful? i plan to have it later :( im afraid now :(

  • I have to get mine done tomorrow. The video made me more aware of what the test is all about.

  • ive just had my results come back,i was prescribed the wrong medication, i should of been given thrush tablets but was given dose tables, which i took, the test came back negative, a couple of weeks later i got my smear test done, and after all these yrs its come bk as abnormal and have to retest in 6mths, could it be the medication i was given took even though doc said it would do any harm, if results are neg ir could it confused the results, also i havent a period for nearly yr im 45 ...

  • this man looks like william hague.

  • Dear God. I have to get one of these Mondays and I'm not sexually active. SMH :(

  • Unless oyuve got a really good reason, you shud have this done. I know its not nice, but it can pick things up, not just cancerous cells, really early on an so can prevent you from having to go through a lot worse. I didnt find it painful, but obviously its not the best feelin in the world. Drs and nurses do this every day so its jus normal 2 them. I wud only have a female dr/nurse do mine. All the advice I wud give is, have it done, try to relax, remember to make sure your clean before you go x

  • It must for women above 35 year

  • i tried getting this done, it was my 1st time. i tried to relax but i was in pain, i was almost in tears. i tried putting on a brave face, but i couldn't take it. the doctor had to stop cuz i was intense. lol now i know why those porno girls moan, groan, scream, makes noises lol ^_~

  • oh dear, I was invited too, for the 5th time and I always ignore the letters. I just can't do it, too embarrassing. And what if it hurts, and what if it's a male doctor?? I would die. I'm still a virgin too and I'm worried they laugh or destroy something down there. It's really annoying, I know it should be done, and I'm usually not a coward, but I don't have the courage to do that. It's just too much to ask. :-( I hope they stop sending the letters soon.

  • @JeanySullivan they wont stop the letters, I'm the same, so you're not alone (apart from the virgin bit) I've been sent letters for months now but I'm hoping to get it done tomorrow.

I'm bricking it! really really nervous, but if you're relaxed and think about something else, then I/and you should be fine.

I take comfort in the fact that it takes a few minutes of my time.

  • @JeanySullivan hi they wouldnt laugh, your a virgin and so can refuse until you start having intercourse as its the HPV virus that causes cervical cancer, give them a ring and tell them you are not sexually active. when you are though and you get the letter through just do it, its not worth the risk. i hate these tests too but they only take a few mins, everything is professional and you can request a female nurse.

  • @cokerainbows thank you cokerain! I didn't know there is no need for it if you don't have intercourse. wow so being a coward saved me from the test. Because I'm scared of sex too. :-(

  • @cokerainbows i feel scared to have a test later :( for how many minutes it will take? huhuhuhu! i feel nervous now..

  • @windyrainStorm it only last like less than 5 mins. Its not painful. The tools are just very cold and it feel funny when they taking a sample.

  • @JeanySullivan Sweety, I'm a virgin too. I had just had mine done. I strickley asked for a female doc. They cannot refuse to give you one. It was painful, but it was quick.

I was nervous as hell, but I kept talking to the doctor about something else, cracking jokes diminishes the tention encreadibly. Then your done, and out and can go get an ice cream cone.:D

  • the got thing is year 8 girl students now get to have a hpv vacine i had mine last year!

  • @jjrocks3333 i got the first one a couple months ago but i decided not to go through with the other 2 because of all the horror stories i heard about girls becoming sick afterwards :/

  • Im going for my 1st smear test tomorrow... ... never had a doc look at my bits before!.. hope it doesnt hurt

  • 'Pre-cancer' my arse. The smear test just picks up changes to the cells. Only a tiny proportion of 'abnormal' results mean there's a genuine risk of cancer, because most of these cell changes are harmless and will go back to normal in time. The vast majority of women who have horrible treatments for so-called 'pre-cancer' actually have nothing wrong with them.

And cervical cancer was already in decline BEFORE screening came in.

  • "by age of 50, 80% of women exposed to [...] viruses that [might] cause [lead to] cancer" -- is a statement of note.

  • Least you can get it fixed asap!

  • I dread these every year, but they have to be done.

  • @21Sarabi

Um, no they don't! Screening does not guarantee that you won't get cancer. Some still do, because pap tests are very unreliable, especially in young women. I'm not saying you shouldn't have them, but you should be aware that there are risks to all this testing that the doctors don't tell you about.

Cervical Cancer is actually quite rare. Ovarian (Womb) cancer is more common, and they don't test for that!

  • @21Sarabi Why do they "have to"? It's an individual choice.

  • I hate..getting a pap smear test..it was so painful and uncomfortable..o well..i need to get another one soon

  • I asked someone who had this done but she said it wasn't really painful..maybe it really depends on who and which hospital/clinic will perform it..I still haven't experienced this one that's why I'm surfing and wanted to make sure if this won't hurt that much..kinda scary I guess..tsk! tsk!

  • @prettybaby.. it was painful but..it will save your life..incase something wrong..so go ahead and do it

  • @prettybaby2703 it DOESNT hurt...if it hurts its cause your not relaxed thats the most important thing. Relaxing if your muscles tense then it willl hurt its the same thing if ur nervous when your having sex it will hurt.

  • @nessa081386 its better than get cancer

  • you cant get this cancr unless the girl has had sex?

  • UGH I would RATHER get cancer I had a smear test the other day and it was the most HORRIBLE thing thats ever happened to me!!! Im NEVER getting one ever again...

  • That's stupid. Yes the examination CAN be uncomfortable, but that's nothing compared to the slow agonising death cancer can cause.

You probably think you're invincible, but nobody is. And your comment comes across as extremely flippant.

  • @Bordinili I'm with you buddy (and I'm sure very few people are); my first and last one was 27 years ago. Never again, and yes I'm alive and healthy, with four kids :) The chance of getting this type of cancer is much lower than doctors want us to think; I always said I would rather run the risk, but I have informed myself and now know that the risk is extremely low. The risk of trauma to someone who can't handle this procedure, however, is 100%.

  • I work at my local NHS hospital, and I notice that a lot of Americans and their families come over for "healthcare holidays". I'm sure that they have free clinics in America, and it confuses why anyone would spend so much on a plane ticket for the same care that they can get at home :/ And if American's hate the NHS so much, why are they using it's services? :/

  • nhs? isn't that the healthcare system that all "real" Americans hate? ;)

  • As a former practice nursing sister, I did not advocate a smear test for virgins unless they had had the procedure before and were keen to have another. The risk is extremely low in virgins and the procedure invasive and unnecessary. By the way girls, if you are experiencing pain during the procedure then tell the person taking it, how else are they going to know how to do it painfree. It can be uncomfortable but ideally never painful!

  • You don't need to have a smear if you are a virgin - unless you have a specific reason for it.

  • They are meant to see if you have cancer....if you are a virgin you can get cancer....idiot.

  • but you get cervical cancer from having sex ^o)

  • I don't think that's the only way, I think that is just the most common way.

  • Especially for virgins, vaginal tests (including pap smear) can be very pain full if you don't relax it muscles. I used to have one in the first place, and it hurts. But, you have to let your doctors do it. You have to get thru the pain.

  • Pap smears are not really done for virgins. If you're a virgin, your GP may deny a smear.

I have read many times and have been told by my GP that cervical cancer occurs much more often in women who had sex with a male partner who had rather a few sexual partners.

So virgins don't really need the smear test done......Nuns, for example, rarely have cervical cancer, which supports this theory.

  • is a smear test sumthing to do with checking a girl on the private part or wot ???

  • hiyya i have a question is a smear test sumthing to do with a womans verginity or sumthing like that ??? plz get bk at meh

  • Stay in school you need the education.

  • I agree.

  • Its a test where they insert a spectum inside of you to check for Cancer or Hpv

  • i really think that Straight Razor needs to think over his actions as what he is doing is indangerin his gf if he really cared about her he should let her get it done then again he might not care she may have something wrong & end up dead or unable to have children i feel really sorry for her and i think she should leave this loser my husband has stuck by me through all of this & he will be there for me to hold my hand while i have our baby & then again in dec when i go through my treatment

  • I had my Smear last july and because of an admin mistake at my doctors i never got my results, unfourtunalty for me the result was not a good result there for i never got my result wheni went back to my doc's in feb to tell them i am preg now because i am preg they cant do anything until i have the baby, they have asked me to concider a termination so i can have the treatment but like i said why should i its not my fault they made a mistake on the admin side there for i get my treatment in dec .

  • do not terminate the pregnancy plz

  • ok then.....but if ur girl has someting wrong den mayb u got it too. Think on that mate.

  • I thought the things where plastic.

  • omg i just had this done for the 1st time omg it hurt, the doctor had to stop cuz it was painful.

  • -------------------XxXStraightRazorXxX

listen mate it is very important that your girl friend does her smear test Dr's aint no perverts , you think that they can't get a woman and they are that desprate to check your woman like that please . stop thinking this way and think about her health plus for your information doctors dont do that type of job there are femeal nurses that does this type of job im one of them . so take a chill pill .............................

  • I dont alow my gf to have pap smears because her doctor is a man and i wont let any guy be down there looking at her doctors are perverts just like every 1...Her male doctor wont let a girl doc do it he says he has to he just wants to see her naked and i wotn let her have them until she gets a woman doctor or she can do it at home

  • Lets just hope she doesn't get cervical cancer then. She has a right to request a female Dr. For God's sake don't stop her from having this, it could save her life.

  • Its high time she left you It may save her life What will you do if you get testicular cancer!!!!! Grow up

  • understand you, but they is no way he can say no for her having one by a female doc. but she should have it man, thats really important but I dont understand her doc reaction

  • That is such a silly way to think about it. Don't you think your girlfriend's health is more important than your silly jealousy? Doctors are trained professionals. Female patients can ask to be accompanied during the examination if they feel it necessary, or why don't you go with her yourself? My boyfriend has no problem with who examines me, because he cares more about my wellbeing and less about his ego.

  • @kissycatjess is it painful?

  • lol

  • yeah....LOL!

some crazy people tryna persuade an idiot!!

    u r cool!!

    tc fella

  • lol well you do have to undress but you wear a hospital gown, maybe she doesn't care what gender doctor it is, maybe go somewhere else that allows women doctors

  • he's lying

  • It's obvious that you don't care about your girlfriend's health then.

  • i beg to difffer not ALL male doctors are perverts, we are trained all in the same way, you didnt mention , did she ask for a 'nurse ' to do this, alot refuse a male doctor and when a nurse is given they refuse that too. buy a Speculum and do it for her.

  • You're a fool to label all doctors perverts.. and you also clearly have massive issues with insecurity and you might want to look at some kind of therapy for that. She's a muppet for listening to you and allowing you to control what she does or doesn't do. If she is unwell, it's her fault as much as yours. She shouldn't listen to your utter nonsense.

  • Listen mate, your gf can request the doc to have you accompany her in the examination room. My boy friend was present with e when my doc carried out the test on me. Plz accompny her to the gynaec n get her examined. It pains a bit but then its better than cancer...

  • @XxXStraightRazorXxX I've NEVER heard of a doctor refusing to alow a nurse practioner to exam a patient.

  • All women should undergo this procedure..
