Looks like it was filmed on a calm day. The actual D-Day weather was worse. Everyone was seasick after being in the little boats for hours but here just a few are puking.
I heard a story that the beach the Canadians landed on wasnt even protected and they literally sat on the beach and had a cup of tea waiting for orders! lol, i guess the Americans weren't so lucky about what beach they took! hahaha
Every beach on d-day was protected. The Canadians faced SS comando squads, the British faced Panzer and Tiger tank divisions, and the Americans faced heavy gun fortifications. Every allied country had their part to play on that day, and they all carried it out with presision, and force. Know one country did more or less than another. And every one of those nations has and equal share of the victory on that day, and inded the entire war.
This is my problem with kids playing call of duty. It makes them want to join the armed forces because they think its cool. It by all means is not "cool".
i hate it when people remember ONLY the omaha beach landing. there were 2 brit landings, completely ignored, a canadian landing, which atleast canada cares about. there was even another american landing, which no one remembers. There are so many heroes in ww2 that no one remembers. GOD PEOPlE! SHOW SOME RESPECT!
@CallumMeg I surely remember all the landings, it's just that this particular one was extremely deadly and was almost a disaster. The other ones weren't nearly as bad.
@link0zeldarulz89 Yea, Omaha Beach had a lot more casulties then the other beaches. It was a combination of bad luck on the Americans part, and also some heavy defended areas.
@MichaelMyers87 Heavy defended? These beaches were not heavyl defended. Stronger protected areas were the ports and the region around Calais (the region werethe germans expected the allies to attack). Nevertheless all soldiers (the germans too) suffer great loses and should be remembered.
Wow! I suggest watching this clip whilst playing either "Sixty Seconds to What?" or "Ecstasy of Gold" by Ennio Morricone . . . in no way trying glorify what happened to those boys on the beaches on that epic / historic day, actually glad Spielberg omitted music from this scene - peace
How tough of an MF'er would you have to be to calmly walk around looking for and then picking up your recently blown off arm? Such a brutally honest portrayal of what went on on those beaches that day . . . those poor boys
@sidDkid87 im sure they were trying to portray shell shock rather than bravery. looks to me like he was walking around in a daze from the damage his body sustained, rather than "calmly"
@jameslovtrain the SEALs were actually already there they weren't called SEALs then though they were a demolition crew who planted exsplosives to destroy blockades so the boats could land.
barely any of the men on the boats made it to the beach never forget them because they gave their live for you and you and you all of you be grateful its not like that here!
So I'm a us marine....get this during my crucible( last right of passage to becoming a marine) we were doing a combat assault through barbed wire, mud, sand, water the works. Miserable right lol but the speakers in the trees played this whole beach scene with out voices haha I'd seen the movie so many times I recognized it right away! It's mad realistic and made that whole 300 yards of crawling on my face and guts that more realistic. And I could here Tom hanks saying move..move! Lol that was a
It's amazing what these guys did.If the amphibious craft opened up and i saw the head of the guy in front me fly off I'd shit my pants, crawl in a ball and cry for my mom.but these guys got out there, and against all the odds, they won.Respect.
RIP Camerman #3... The Nazi's were instructed NOT to shoot people holding cameras. But he was cut in the crossfire. He gave his life to save Tom Hanks.
My grandpa was 17 on D-Day in the third wave at Omaha. I'm that age and I could never imagine having the courage to do something like this. Truly a great generation...
@x21Frets I want to thank you for your grandfathers courage and sacrifice in landing on that beach! I'm sure there was a whole list of things he would have rather done that day. But we would never have taken Berlin had we not landed that day. So thank you for your Grandfathers sacrifice, and those who faught and died beside him!
If your family, your country, the world, and your entire way of life was at risk. You would do anything to prevent losing everything you hold dear. In the 21st century, we are safe in our homes, we dont know world war, or suffering on a genocidal scale. So of course we would say "I could never imagine having the courage to do something like this". But go back in time to 1939, and I think somehow, you would find the courage. As so many did, and had too...
I find it interesting how, no matter how visceral, real, and just plain sad war movies can be, they are all just glorifications of war.A person could spend their entire life making a war movie that they think truly outlines the vast horror of war, when really it would just be another glorification of the merciless thing war is. It's apalling. But it's all too human.
this stuff is heartbreaking. i seen this movie when it first came out with WWII Vets. im a marine and it brought me and those vets extremely emotional pain. the whole theater of vets were in tears. i cant believe how much this movie depicts
@airsoftman322 Mate, there's plenty of food on the planet for everyone. I can sometimes see the necessity for war... but if the nations of the world spent less time warring with each other, we might spend more time feeding each other. What do you reckon?
You are very mature for your age, I'm 15 as well and I too am disgusted by those people in our generation who know nothing of war and yet they praise it...
It's difficult to think of all the generations cut short, all the people that could have been the sons and daughters of these people and how they would have effected the world. Even from this one battle, now imagine the entire war.
i soooooo regret not watching this in the theaters. this first scene must have been amazing on the big screen. missed that experience, i was too young then lol
i woulda shit shit my self like crazy. and when the gate went down i woulda just fallen down haha. please check out my one many army video on my page. tieing into a series for a mass murder
I think that is the closest any film maker got to the reality of that day. While I stand in awe that those brave men faced hell on that beach I feel gratitude for their sacrifice and prey forgiveness for feeling grateful it was them and not me.
Had that attack failed history might have taken a terrible turn as this happened just thirteen months before nuclear weapons became a reality.
@MattH0990 that you have a functioing brain. I suppose it functions on some level. You have a job?!!! That's amazing! Not just anyone can get a job! I prefer to own my own business instead of being the Jackass Of the Boss. Anyone can do what they're told to do and follow orders. They could probably train a chimpanzee to do your job or build a robot that would replace you. Thanks to the Socialists who are trying to overthrow the US, there are a lot of unemployed people here now.
It was amazing anybody survived. I've been to Omaha beach and seen the distance that allied soldiers had to cross to achieve the objective. It was a pure turkey shoot for a German machine gunner. What a horrible way to die.
@Nemesis0300 no, it's not under control. Hitler is strange. he thought that the Allies will attack from the north, which is true, but he reinforces the southern beaches!
@555kamakazie your a dick if we didnt do that it would only be a matter of time before hitler invaded britain and if we lost britain we'ed be screwed because there wouldnt be any place we could launch the incasion of europe to take it back.
The Allies were too dumb to hit their targets the day they bombed Normandy - just before their planned invasion. That is why there were heavy casualties.
And the top brass morons like Ike and Bradley were too pigheaded to let old blood and guts George Patton plan the Normandy invasion.
Basically the Atlantic Wall was the strongest at Omaha and Utah, with higher cliffs and larger, wider beaches, so the American got the worst beaches. Juno and Sword beaches were taken pretty quickly, as it was easier, and Gold only slightly less so. It is of no fault to the Americans that their beaches were the hardest, they certainly fought the toughest I would imagine. I would be fucking crapping myself if I was in that boat...
holy fck, i remember this movie when i was just a kid. i did not understand the war and i thought this was awesome! But then now we all grown up, imagining me in that boat, i would be scared shitless
yeah i thik the could better just jump out the boat other ways the german could fire whit ther guns in one boat and al units die then or just one great bombing run alot of pilots whil die but its better then this
okay i'm confused. which one is the most famous? the omaha beach landing or the utah beach landing? i've heard of both which one is the one that is so famous? and in just about every ww2 movie?
The scary thing is that it was much, much worse than this in reality. It went on for hours and a LOT of people died in the water after hitting mined obstacles.
It became so bad that navy destroyers came in parallel to the shore, risking grounding, and bombarded bunkers and gun emplacements. If they hadn't it could have been a total rout.
whats sad is the tons of people that were apart of Dday only a handful of them stepped foot on the beaches. half didnt make it out of the boats and the others were killed in the water most likely
This movie makes me sick to my stomach every time I see it. I am fifteen, and have a bunch of friends who are convinced how "badass" it would be to shoot people, and fight in wars, just like Call of Duty. Having dealt with a family member that is a war vet with PTSD, this is no joke. This is not fun. This is not cool. All of the anger, the guilt, the nightmares. There are those who die in battle, and those that live on to mentally fight the war for the rest of their lives.
you do realize that every generation has been that way ha everyone wants to go and fight in a war...it seems thats what american children want then when they get it its totally different from imagined
@poopwarrior8 just noiticed this comment lol. I may have missed a COD game that had an intense landing like this. But I never really played a COD level that was exactly like this. The game was intense yes, but in WaW in the pelilu landing, instead of an epic fight up the beach. You call a strike and basically just walk up there shooting at the men who are wounded and crawling away. I wished it was the same landing as in the show The Pacific. That would have made the level ALOT more intense.
@AnObeseAardvark Yes it is not right. But people go to war to take those risk. They fight and die for their countries, this movie wasn't made telling how awesome it would be to shoot someone and be in a war. It was meant to honor the armed service and show the horror of war.
@Hamptoncltn Sure did show it. This is, in my opinion, the first true movie that shows the horror of war. Everytime I see this, it chills me thinking about the screams of the wounded and just the complete chaos of how that day was. Pure horror.
@AnObeseAardvark well i wouldnt say its the fighting that is cool but i think it's badass how these guys have the courage to fight and risk their lives for their own country. Thats true dedication and i thank them for their service. Support our troops
@richgannonrocks ''your troops'' are currently deserting and disbanding and you already know why. your troops are being used in a nonsense war on iraq and afheganistan in contrast of WW2 wich was clearly against the pure evil that the nazism was.
@richgannonrocks by your reaction I'd say I hit the truth. i respect every soldier of this world who have the guts to fight in the front line for a good cause. but if they fight for a old-retard greedy man, im free to express my opnion
@richgannonrocks lets never forget this, these heroics on WW2 was the green flag for future leaders to convince the troops, to fight for anything without a clear cause, like nowadays war are, like iraq is. You need to have courage to serve your country but you need to be even more courageous to deny an order who seems to be stupid. all kids had heroes, mine was from usmc.
I dont believe this movie should make you sick. The fact that governments around the world sent people into a suicide attack has reason to make people sick....fucking dickhead politicians.
@AnObeseAardvark Its not about being badass or cool, and it is certainly no joke. Its about knowing something needs to be done (e.g. stopping the Nazis) and doing your duty, even though you're scared out of your wits.
One of the most common misconceptions about war is that soldiers want to fight. They don't want to, but they know they have to.
@AnObeseAardvark - that's one of the risks of great war movies, which at their heart should at least try and be anti-war: the glorification of war. When I first saw this, I was frozen to my seat, it seemed so real. After a while though, it goes from shocking to 'badass'/cool and one forgets the horror of it all and revels in its badass coolness while playing videogames in the safety of an airconditioned room, thinking that they're as cool as the real vets who die in the mud and blood.
I actually got to meet the guy who helped do props for this movie, his name was Dave (cant remember the last name). He said when they were making the movie it looked very cheap. It still turned out hella good ofa movie. He said when the bullets go threw the water they were actually standing in boats and shooting bb guns in the water.
How come? I don't see any Wolverines relatives around, those Germans aren't standing in the middle of a road just waiting to get shot, and Miller doesn't have to do everything himself.
They did all of this without kevlar.

okay i'm confused. which one is the most famous? the omaha beach landing or the utah beach landing? i've heard of both which one is the one that is so famous? and in just about every ww2 movie?

@spazzz64 Omaha.

The scary thing is that it was much, much worse than this in reality. It went on for hours and a LOT of people died in the water after hitting mined obstacles.
It became so bad that navy destroyers came in parallel to the shore, risking grounding, and bombarded bunkers and gun emplacements. If they hadn't it could have been a total rout.
mountainenergei1 1 year ago
whats sad is the tons of people that were apart of Dday only a handful of them stepped foot on the beaches. half didnt make it out of the boats and the others were killed in the water most likely

@drummer1269 dude its just like COD
poopwarrior8 1 year ago
@poopwarrior8 just noiticed this comment lol. I may have missed a COD game that had an intense landing like this. But I never really played a COD level that was exactly like this. The game was intense yes, but in WaW in the pelilu landing, instead of an epic fight up the beach. You call a strike and basically just walk up there shooting at the men who are wounded and crawling away. I wished it was the same landing as in the show The Pacific. That would have made the level ALOT more intense.
Hamptoncltn 1 year ago
@Hamptoncltn lol i was joking, but they do have a COD with you fighting in D-Day. It's in COD 2 when COD wasn't that huge yet, just a standard game.
poopwarrior8 1 year ago
@AnObeseAardvark yet u came to watch this video and make a silly comment, NO.
S3xybek 1 year ago
@AnObeseAardvark Yes it is not right. But people go to war to take those risk. They fight and die for their countries, this movie wasn't made telling how awesome it would be to shoot someone and be in a war. It was meant to honor the armed service and show the horror of war.
Hamptoncltn 1 year ago
@Hamptoncltn Sure did show it. This is, in my opinion, the first true movie that shows the horror of war. Everytime I see this, it chills me thinking about the screams of the wounded and just the complete chaos of how that day was. Pure horror.

hoothoot66 1 year ago
@AnObeseAardvark well i wouldnt say its the fighting that is cool but i think it's badass how these guys have the courage to fight and risk their lives for their own country. Thats true dedication and i thank them for their service. Support our troops
richgannonrocks 1 year ago
@richgannonrocks ''your troops'' are currently deserting and disbanding and you already know why. your troops are being used in a nonsense war on iraq and afheganistan in contrast of WW2 wich was clearly against the pure evil that the nazism was.
THEm4rduk 1 year ago
@THEm4rduk dude their fighting for us so u shouldnt give them shit
richgannonrocks 1 year ago
@richgannonrocks by your reaction I'd say I hit the truth. i respect every soldier of this world who have the guts to fight in the front line for a good cause. but if they fight for a old-retard greedy man, im free to express my opnion
THEm4rduk 1 year ago
@richgannonrocks lets never forget this, these heroics on WW2 was the green flag for future leaders to convince the troops, to fight for anything without a clear cause, like nowadays war are, like iraq is. You need to have courage to serve your country but you need to be even more courageous to deny an order who seems to be stupid. all kids had heroes, mine was from usmc.

I dont believe this movie should make you sick. The fact that governments around the world sent people into a suicide attack has reason to make people sick....fucking dickhead politicians.
jonathon898 1 year ago
@AnObeseAardvark Its not about being badass or cool, and it is certainly no joke. Its about knowing something needs to be done (e.g. stopping the Nazis) and doing your duty, even though you're scared out of your wits.
One of the most common misconceptions about war is that soldiers want to fight. They don't want to, but they know they have to.

R2mandarockstar 11 months ago
