  • He's more than a human

  • This is amazing..

  • Im going ot take my dog for a walk, right now

    (2:10 am)

  • I'm speechless i had the same experience with my Joe. I quit everything for a year to take care of him until his last moment. It's been almost to years since he passed away I still have no clue why should i wake up for. He's not here now. I just don't know what to say for now.My heart is broken.

  • Animals are OUR healers. They enrich our lives IF WE LISTEN. They know when they are LOVED. Great dog and great people. They will NEVER regret the time they spent with him.

  • What a great story.

I was kindo expecting a (scientific) investigation into why people love cats and dogs. But this short is beautiful :')

  • Such an inspiration, wonderful people, wonderful dog-we are wishing you all the very best for the future-and Jerry to have many more happy years ahead of him-thanks for sharing,we are the very same, in that, we could not be without animals, and would always go that extra mile for them when they were with us ;-)and now for our wonderful girl Meesha the very same applies ;-)) thanks for sharing this uplifting story with us.

  • If everybody had a four-legged friend in their home, there would be peace until the end of times.

  • anyone know if Jerry is still alive?

  • @estpst We helped release Jerry from his broken body in October, 2008. We enjoyed nearly two years on the road together, with Jerry loving life on three legs. Read the whole story at his TRIPAWDS website. Thanks for asking.

  • A zillion Hugs to Jerry, Rene and Jim for helping Nature share your story with the world. I luv you guys for being the best pawrents a dog could ever have. What a pure soul Jerry had and i am still crying at this story that has made a huge impact within me. I wonder if the producer of "why We Love Cats and Dogs" has ever seen the movie "Best of Show"? the 2 shows are in some ways similar, esp, with the interviews of so many people talking about their pets-Loved that!

  • I totally understand these people. I tease my husband that the love of my life isn't him, but our sweet girl Winter who we lost to cancer 3 years ago. Dogs never judge, they are always happy to see you. they comfort you when sad and make you laugh almost every day. My Winter was a German shepherd also, and I miss her every day.

  • I understand what they mean. I'd do the same. I actually didnt go to college right after high school to be with my old cat. I've had her since I was six and I'm not leaving her for anything. She's 15 but she has bowel issues and she's lost a dangerous amount of weight. I owe my life to her, and school can wait because I'll never leave her side.

  • Go dog, Go!

  • I love this story. how is Jerry doing? I have a three legged cat, to save his life. He's still happy after almost 3 years!

  • My mom would have put that dog down at the first sign of trouble. To know that he could have lived 14 more months without decline is just something wonderful. I know I'll be taking my own babies to the vet and doing what is needed for them instead of just saying "sickness = death". Just so sad that so many people just put down their animals when things get inconvenient.

  • Love is so powerful, Pets are the greatest gifts besides children.

  • This is like the difference between me and my parents. I know they love animals, but for them- cancer or other ailments are a death sentence, and pets are like a hindrance to trips.

They see pets as animals you live with, that are great, but thats it. You don't spend more on them then you paid for.

But to me- *god I'm crying* They're life and death, man. Their everything the universe has to offer.

Their hearts and souls are connected to mine, and I'd go anywhere for them.

    Best friend

  • @Treemeadow Beautiful comment now if we could just get people to feel the same way about each other.

  • It's not how far you go for a dog ,but how far do you go for LOVE.

  • Hi, this is Edna with Nutro/Greenies.

I just wanted to say that Jerry has got some awesome 'pawrents'! Thanks for sharing such a wonderful story!

  • This is super cute!! Check out my videos of our crazy cat attacking our dog!!! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!

  • Awesome story. The cancer was a blessing in disguise as you two rediscovered what is really important in life through Jerry.

  • We miss you Jerry

  • Where are the cats, man? They didn't show any cats.

  • Ohhh...Poor Jerry. I am just so happy that he has a family who loves him that much.

  • what a wonderful story

  • Great story, great dog! Strangely, I can relate to this couple's sentiments Way-ta-go, Jerry, never stop exploring!

  • I watched this for the first time, this weekend. I may be a cat person, but Jerry just twisted my heart. I tried to tell a neighbor about the show, but I couldn't, I started breaking up when I said "Jerry." This was the best Nature show I've ever seen. I have two cats & one is my Jerry. His name is Buddy, he's healthy & only 8, but I dread the day I'll have to say good-bye! He's in my soul. God bless Jerry & his spirit! MY WISH: everyone could know that all animals communicate & FEEL!

  • What an absolutely wonderful story. I have cats and when people say they are only animals they just don't know the bond that an animal can give a person. The love they show in return. Thank you great story.

  • Absolutely terrific inspiration. This is the best animal appreciation story that I have ever heard. Thank you.

  • Great, I have been following your blog for over a year, just a wonderful story

  • Thanks for sharing that amazing story. I'm still sniffling a little, I was really moved. I know it is always a difficult decision to make when your pet is sick. You trusted your instincts and you are now so very lucky to have the extra time with Jerry. And you're putting it to great use by sharing your message with all of us. Thank you!

  • just keep him close--the native species could be stressed. He is beautiful!

  • there was a shepard in new zealand who devastated the kiwi population. I only say this to emphasize the point that our pets must be kept under very close supervision.

  • no offense, because I had a german shepard, and I loved him--but the back country is not a place for a dog off leash. It causes stress for all of the other animals. Dogs off leashes change the dynamics of the NATIVE ecosystems.

  • Odinata, I respectfully disagree; check out my YT Channel?

The number of dogs in wild places simply does not jibe with related science. The predation, eco-effect, dogs absolutely cause harm to wild places notion cant hold up to the facts.

48.8 million dogs in the US. An estimated 1.87 million enter designated and non-designated wilderness areas each year. Were the arguments against them being there profound, we would see dramatic negative affects. Plain and simple: we dont, and havent.

  • OMG that is just beautiful. I'm happy for these people and of course for Jerry.

  • That is such a great story and Both Jerry and his people (hate the term owner) all love each other so much. Good stories often don't get front page coverage so it is a treat when we get to hear them.

  • that made me cry on how wonderful and amazing that is

  • He's not a kid, he's not a human. He's a big hairy bundle of love who acts like a kid. Besides, somebody once said (something like), "The more I know of humans, the more I like my dog." You go, Jerry G.!

  • thanks for the info i make sure i watch it

  • What a great story and what great people. I wish Jerry all the best and many more happy years with his family.

  • To learn more about Jerry, please be sure to tune in to your local PBS station on Feb. 15.

  • Unfortunately I don't think I'd be able to watch the show since I am not from the USA and don't have PBS stations.

  • Look for more clips coming to YouTube.

  • Hey PBS! You know, I can select WNED channel to watch this!

  • Good choice!

  • @saibabathakur I have never understood why women love cats. Cats are independent, they don't listen, they don't come in when you call, they like to stay out all night, and when they're home they like to be left alone and sleep. In other words, every quality that women hate in a man, they love in a cat

  • I can't wait to watch the show on PBS on February 15th @ 8 p.m. Jerry and his pawrents are the best! Love, Blazer, Kitty Kimber & Mom (Vicki)

  • wow , what a great story. Life is meant to be lived, that's what Jerry's telling us.

  • How great. Go Jerry, Go Jerry

  • I totally relate. I have a cat and couldn't live without her.

  • Guys, you are my constant inspiration

  • i wish there was more ppl like them that love animals and understands there living things that we should care for. i cant imagine how their going to feal when gerry dies!!!

  • very touching! i love my dog like that too, and even though she works w/ me everyday, she still reminds me to take breaks and get out and explore the wilderness as often as possible. i hope gerry lives a long and happy life.

  • God Bless these guys... They are lucky to have Jerry and hethem.

  • Those are beautiful people! Dogs just want to be with their people and in return they give unconditional love.

  • I wish Gerry and his folks all the best.

  • I dont like cats or dogs... but I love the lynx cat since its the size of a dog and looks noble

  • crying...

  • As wonderful as they are, they should have done more regular check-ups for the wellbeing of their dog. You can't rely on an animal to tell you in time to do anything about it.

    Still, what a great story.
