I have been listening through his albums a lot. To me this is potentially my favorite song of his, it's the one that springs first to mind anyways. Incredible fingerpicking and lyrics in true old singer-songwriter fashion.
what the link for the world's tallest man meeting the world's shortest man. it's freaking adorable. sorry, that has nothing to do with this song, which by the way, is also freaking amazing, as usual!
@Ajebuje ok we can compare him with bob dylan, even kristian compares himself to bob dylan saying 'i used to listen to a lot of bob dylan, no shit' yeah.. whatever, but he is unique in his own way too
@Ajebuje AGREED. Mainly because the only similarity to me between them is that they are both amazing but other than that i think they are complete opposites. Completely unique voices and styles. Bob is beautifully simple. simple vocal melodies, timing/progressions, and Dr. Suess style lyrics. Kristians beautifully complex with his picking patterns and progressions, very unique off timed vocal melodies with symbolic lyrics much different from the way dylan wrote his.
Why does all new folk have to be compared to Dylan? He isnt the be all end all of the genera damn it. Been around for centuries and will always continue.
@heydudecali43 If by everything you mean, sloppy singing, songs that never ever seems to end AND messing it all up with to much harmonica, then thats exactly what he created... ;D don't get me wrong bob is alright though...
My Comments were "This guy is not Bob Dylan or Mumford and Sons (Who the fuck are they anyway). However, he is a massively talented artist in his own right. Can we now cut the bloody silly comparisons please!"
The twats replying "don't you know who Bob Dylan is etc etc". Of course I fucking know who he is.....you must all be fucking Americans as you don't understan irony. I was mearly pointing out that any comparisons between Tallest Man and Dylan is pointless, they are not the same.
i know people will hate me for saying this but , he's a better singer and guitar player than dylan , and his lyrics definatley rival dylan's. give this guy a few years and he is better.......
This guy is not Bob Dylan or Mumford and Sons (Who the fuck are they anyway). However, he is a massively talented artist in his own right. Can we now cut the bloody silly comparisons please!
@GarnetNW The hell, how do you know know one of the greatest musicians of the folk revolution? Bob Dylan did a lot more than you know towards the music of today. Don't speak ignorantly.
Even though I love my rock music most days, there is always a special place in my heart for this man and his heartfelt lyrics. His music creates a feeling that I just can't replace or describe. <3
It's not really my style of music, but it's quite obvious that he's extremely talented and has a very good/raspy voice for such a little guy. I can understand how others may like his music very much.
I have never in my entire life heard a more poetic lyric that doesn't require hours of thinking to be understood. It truly brings tears to my eyes to hear this spark of musical divinity.
@Turbobread1 Even though he's obviously influenced by Dylan and that genre of folk singer songwriters, it takes originality and creativity as well as thought to write those symbolic philosophical lyrics. He's simply using a familiar style to convey his own message; Mozart certainly didn't invent classical music, but its undeniable that he made great contributions to an already established method of musical expression.
@Boot724 At first I thought your post was going to be meaningful until the second sentence. Tallest Man on Earth is influenced by Dylan - true - but he's influenced more so by the artists that influenced Dylan, i.e., Bascom Lamar Lunsford, Roscoe Holcomb, Mississippi John Hurt and the rest of the Anthology of American Folk Music. The Dylan reference is too easy; it goes much deeper than that.
@shwayjoe@shwayjoe I wouldn't say better yet. He hasn't made enough music for a long enough time to give him recognition like that. But i definitely agree that he easily has the potential to Better than Bob Dylan as time goes on. If he continues writing songs like these for years and years then I would say there's no competition, which is saying a lot because I think Bob Dylan is the best singer-song writer ever at this point. But he just may be passing the torch who knows!
Stop the better than Dylan talk. PLEASE. This guy is awesome, I have been listening for a couple years. Obviously his major, (and maybe only) influence was Bob Dylan, without whom, there would be no Tallest Man on Earth. If Bob could still sing, and these songs being sung by him I think many would prefer. Hate to say it because I love this music, but my favorite songs are substitutes for Dylan. King of Spain, Wild Hunt, They even have Dylan lyrics in them. He likely learned English from music!
my english teacher thus far has always been playing music before class has started and i've really liked it but i havent really wanted to ask what song was playing but i saw this one today because he had the projector on.
@Peterson12311 I'm with ya bud! I've found his music is impossible to accurately describe to a friend who hasn't heard him yet. I just say: "Listen to this guy.." (wait) "..and YES i do understand when u say FOR THE FIRST TIME NOT JUST YOUR EARS ARE LISTENING, YOUR ENTIRE BODY IS." There's a magic about his songs you can't quite explain. There's nothing specific you can place. Looked at separately, his vocal style & guitar aren't one of a kind. But together!...HE JUST HAS THE GOOSE BUMP FACTOR!
This man is amazing!! Unique, moving, spiritual...awe inspiring, one of the last true inspirations!!!!! The way he makes his guitar speak...his voice..no comparison to Dylan here...amazing!!!! Thank you for the post!!! Kristian Matsson please keep making music it makes a difference!!!!!
