Was the truck a APU? I thought the MI-8 had it's own APU?

@slawek2109 I thought so, But years ago I loaded jets & look at the truck off to the side....it's plugged into the HIP. I wonder why?

Yes the Mi-8 has own APU but when ist not necessary his using standalone unit.

@RoteKampfflieger Yeah I ddn't hear it running, Do they use the stand alone APU when they can to save "ware & Tear" on the aircrafts APU?

You must remeber that Mi-8 and Mi-17 has different engines and startup procedures. Mi-8 has to starters that after startup they are changing to generators. So you start first engine form the battery, then change starter to generator, and now you can start other one. Thats why when is not neccesary Army is using truck APU.

Mi-17 to start is using AI-9W APU.

@jimi277 z tego co się orjętuje to chyba Mi-8 605 stacjonuje w Leżnicy Wielkiej k.Łęczycy W-3W Sokół w Glinniku Nowym k.Tomaszowa Mazowieckiego.

@pelikan35 Dzięki kolego w marcu tego roku brały udział w ćwiczeniach w kotlinie kłodzkiej chłopaki szkolili się do afganu nocne loty świetnie było oglądać ;-) T
