Oh man, my husband never wakes up either. But to change that, take turns. When you know that you're the one "in charge" for this shift, you *will* hear her and you *will* wake up. The brain works like that. As for the books, and even the pediatricians, make sure you always get contradictory advice from them all, so you know the right way is somewhere in the middle :)

When my daughter was born, we also thought we had to wake her up to feed. My daughter was a very good sleeper and we woke up after a full 8 hours one time and thought "oh shit" we didnt wake up and neither did she. We talked to the doctor about it after this happened a few times and he said if she will sleep through the night, to let her go. Just make sure she eats more during the time awake to make sure she gets the required nutrients. We have done that ever since without issues

Oh guude, don't worry some of your fans are nurses (like me!) and even infants who don't get bottles at the beginning have difficulties, people think that breastfeeding is instinctive but it is not. It takes effort. And it is the best thing to do for your daughter (best nutrients, immunoglobins which will set her up for the future) and best for your wife and best for your pockets! The key to a good breastfeeding is positioning and the latch. Keep trying Guude, good luck!
