Never use steel wool for the flashback arrestor. Steel wool will burn. There is a video on here that shows both steel wool and bronze wool, an they put a flame to both of them and the steel wool burns and the bronze doesn't burn at all. Type in "steel vs bronze wool" it should pull the video up. Ace hardware sell the meduim bronze wool and i think lowes does also. Or you can buy it on e-bay fairly cheap.
By preparing 4 water filters having 6 plates each along with arrester installedas per your instructions, backfire is still there and torch is not burning properly. Why is it happening?
Have you tried using an arrestor from a traditional gas welding rig yet? I talked with some people at GTS Welco and they said it would be fine to use the HHO with it.
@gpgab971 I always wondered the same thing. Why not buy the one most critical and important part, besides the bubbler , from a reputable professional source? I mean if it works then don't risk making your own. I have always seen bronze wool fail because no one understands how compact to make it. For newcomers this can be dangerous because they think if they see it done by someone else then they can replicate it. I would buy my flame arrestor. Good vid though thank you for the demonstration.
Monoatomic eh? One doesn't want monoatomic hydrogen going into his vehicle, as it bonds with the metal and weakens it. Diatomic is what you want for burning in your engine.
that's the whole idea of using it, is to prevent flashbacks. make sure it's damp prior to use as an extra precaution. you can use water or vinegar, just wouldn't use whiskey or anything....:D
may i suggest you use a ceramic tube to avoid the heating problems, should be easily available as a tube with a thread at both ends. you might have to get different sized brass fittings to suit.
great work mate! keep it up, the less we rely on fossil fuels the better.
thank you ... nicely done ... a good reliable torch made from materials most anyone can get hands on ...
I think if you added up your cost of materials and charged as little $15 per hour for the time it takes you to gather the parts, assemble the device, put it in a box, take it to the post office and send it out, you would be surprised ... that little gem could easily be a $100 widget ...

Try the F-16 Pulse King which can be purchased on EBAY. Your flame will be monoatomic hydrogen. What a difference

Hydrogen is naturally diatomic how can it become monoatomic

Jeff,
By any chance is that fitting you can't remember the name of a 1/4" Flare x 1/4" FIP?
If it is then you'll find it in a pink wrapper at HD or Lowe's as A-80.
Now I need to find the M61 or M6 tap.

By using that wool, is there a good chance that there won't be a flashback?

Glass wool is much better than Bronze wool
the kind of stuff used for insulation on water tanks and in lofts, yellow in colour
it doesn't need to be wet.If you pack the tube with some fine sponge and put a wad off the glass wool at either end it works fine.
wear gloves when handling glass wool as it will irritate your skin.

your talking about insulation. ahhhhh no you cant get that wet its a sponge! I should know i work with it every day

The great thing about a hydrogen torch is that, at least in my experience, the metal itself never gets more than warm.

Any chance you could send me a parts list?
Also, I have tried unsuccessfully to make the HHO cells - they ALWAYS make too little HHO. Could you send me that info as well?
