And at least with me, her stories made me really interested in French culture and history and made me want to learn the language. I think Riyoko's work would fit marvelously as an exposition in some future. Even if her mangas are not extremely historically accurate, I find the fact they make people interested in the true French history fantastic :D
I'm big on Murakami's work to be completely honest. I can understand why the director might feel his work is in "tune" with the spirit of Versailles but I honestly cannot see it myself. Murakami's work is too... "random" and all over the place, gives off more a feeling of surrealism...that's just me though.
Don't know if they've ever done this before, but maybe try having an expo with Riyoko Ikeda's work? "Rose of Versailles" and Heroikka" are stories set in France and Versailles :)!
