You impress me most here that you knew to step the key down to a place you were comfortable. The original is rather up there :) You are most certain not tone deaf. You're on key note for note. You're already good and because you're studying music, you're only gonna get better. Japanese is going to sound awkward in English but you handled it well. "Senseless lyrics" is a valid criticism. Though, in my defense, a lot of these songs have incredibly nonsensical translations, and I don't know Japanese well enough to make them clearer. But "tone deaf"? Nope. Not objectively, at least. I certainly don't have perfect pitch, and I can use a lot of work on vocal control, but I'm not what any musician would call tone deaf. I certainly wouldn't have been accepted into a classical voice program if I was.

This is no fault of your own, but a directly translated version is difficult to sing without sounding at least a little awkward. Your voice is wonderful but the lyrics are not.
