Just sent Duke,14.5 yr old Shep Lab on his way. Had him since May 98. Ive had 4 dogs, he was the best ever. Everyone loved Duke, even dog haters couldn't help but love Duke.18 months ago he started having joint probs which got worse over time. We did everything we could but it got to point where he would get stuck on his bed, fall down or poop/pee on himself in his sleep it just wasnt fun for him anymore. Our vet came to our house and we sent him on his way with as much dignity as possible.

We just put our sweet boy Murphy down on Friday b/c of cancer that had spread thru his body.  He was only 6. I miss him so much.

Why make them suffer because we are selfish and will miss them. I am right in the middle of deciding if my dog needs to be put down and thru the tears and hear ache I have to make that decision. Even worst I have to explain it to my 9 year old daughter....... I know it seems heartless, but believe me it takes more heart to make the call then any of us want!

You negative people out there talk a good talk, and I know it is because you love you pets! We all love our pets. No one wants to put the dog or cat down, but the cold harsh reality is that they are going to die.

My dog was put down, Monday 15th 2010 at 18.58. It was the saddest day of my life, I've been crying none stop and I just feel this void which will never be replaced, is getting bigger and gigger

i put down my 3 year old pup on friday. he was heartworm positive and was a runt. that night he went into shock and the emergency clinic said it was the best thing to do. no blood pressure and low tempature. they told me he was only responsive bc of heating support and fluids. he also began pooping pure blood so i felt it was the right thing to do. i am torn up with guilt! he was so young and happy and playful and it all happened so quickly. please tell me if you think i did the right thing!

@tae2014 what about when people are in coma? if i was in coma, id want to die after a week, i dont want to be useless, and if i wake up, lets say 4 months or more, thats a chunk of life and oppertunities you missed. people pull the plug if they really need to, thats putting humans to sleep.
