IMHO it's fair to say that this is a combination of car and driver. A great driver in a civic still isn't going to pass corvettes and Ferrari's. But a great car with a good driver can pass good drivers in cars that were better stock, but not as they sit. It's hard to quantify performance between a stock Ferrari and a modified Mustang with different drivers. I have to salute a cobra owner who takes it to real tracks.

@pac850 For one, some of the stock cobras were supercharged, not sure about this one, but an '03 or '04 cobra would hang with porsche 911's except for the Gt2 or GT3, for two, none of the cars in this video were walking away from him....it's a much cheaper car but it's definately intimidating the other drivers....he overtook a corvette also. Even if the cobra is modded, its lightly modded at the most and I give him props.

i wana see him race my friends red reaper dodge charger. its got a super bee style badge but with a reaper in it. it went from 425hp 420 ft-tq. he bored it over .30 swaped a extreme cam, new lifters and springs, motors rebuilt from bottom to top, he had it supercharged he just turboed it, when supercharged he ran 801hp 798ft-tq.

Looks like the Cobra was the only one racing and the others were out for a Sunday drive. It's the only way any Ford can win a race, when the competition isn't racing or there is no competition to race.
One thing the cobra was doing a lot better than the other cars was line driving. the Ferrari did pretty well but being a vert that severely disadvantaged it.
Very nice, I have a S197 09' GT/CS, upgraded suspension, panhard, brake lines, CAI, tune, wheels, sticky tires, and I go out to my local track and keep up with the z06's, GT-R's, SS's, almost on pace with some GT3's that are street ready.

Good job man, this is a perfectly good example that most cars can be modified to handle as a race car. Most people think that handling is for ricer "supercars" or european supercars and that it involves mysticism that only those cars can have. Well it doesn't, making a car handle involves suspension modifications, tunning and sometimes weight distribution, just like making a car go faster involves engine modification and tunning as well.

I'd say there's a fair bit of mysticism when it comes to monocoque vs body on frame chassis... No amount of springs, shocks, ballast or sway bars than give you what a monocoque can... a full roll cage?.. perhaps. :)

i dont know about this one but i do know that mustangs can handle like they are on rails.. check a little something out called Grip Box from maximum motorsports.. with a little bit more powere.. lets say 400rwhp and a grip box a stang can be a killer at the road course.

Actually I'm not racing in this video. Its called Open Track or HPDE. You can get started by visiting National Auto Sport Assn (NASA) and clicking on HPDE/Open Track, or SCCA, and clicking on Club Racing/Performance Driving Experience. Then you work your way up through classes towards a comp license if you want. I raced for 13 years and am now just playing with my street car.
Right, my uncle does the same thing with the porsche club of america. Thats what I'm looking to do. Have some fun on the weekend without worrying about beating up my street car. I was just curious about the club. I used racing for the lack of a better word.
Find the schedules for some tracks in your area, and see what clubs/organizations are offering HPDE's. You'll want a club with some good instruction for your first time out.

so how much time do you have one the track i normally have about 30-45 mins
depends how many racers there and on non race weeks with only like so many poeple you can pretty much stay all day i do get off and check the car

@rickg156 Depends on the group. Car clubs usually allow for more time than race groups, because they have to run races and DE events.

Good job man, this is a perfectly good example that most cars can be modified to handle as a race car. Most people think that handling is for ricer "supercars" or european supercars and that it involves mysticism that only those cars can have. Well it doesn't, making a car handle involves suspension modifications, tunning and sometimes weight distribution, just like making a car go faster involves engine modification and tunning as well.
What's so hard to understand?

I'd say there's a fair bit of mysticism when it comes to monocoque vs body on frame chassis... No amount of springs, shocks, ballast or sway bars than give you what a monocoque can... a full roll cage?.. perhaps. :)

First of all, its not the nurburgring.
Secondly, have you ever seen a 99/03/04 SVT Cobra with a Kenne Bell or Whipple on it and a griggs Racing System at the front and rear wheels?!
I believe stock they can't eat this cars but you pay a much less than for a ferrari. So why not and save the money for Supercharger, susspension and other stuff to eat Old Grey men in red ferraris

i dont know about this one but i do know that mustangs can handle like they are on rails.. check a little something out called Grip Box from maximum motorsports.. with a little bit more powere.. lets say 400rwhp and a grip box a stang can be a killer at the road course.

Actually I'm not racing in this video. Its called Open Track or HPDE. You can get started by visiting National Auto Sport Assn (NASA) and clicking on HPDE/Open Track, or SCCA, and clicking on Club Racing/Performance Driving Experience. Then you work your way up through classes towards a comp license if you want. I raced for 13 years and am now just playing with my street car.
